Jake's Del Mar
As a local we have eaten at Jake’s often but this time was definitely a disappointment. We went there for my husband’s birthday and I felt that it was a big letdown for him as well as myself. We both ordered the ahi stack appetizer but it was mostly avocado with minimal fish. We also ordered the special of the night which was cod roasted in the oven over rice and vegetable. The rice was soggy and the cod had some strange tasting dusting of a spice on top and was dry and over cooked. For the “special of the night” there was absolutely nothing special about it. Jake’s is usually pleasantly lively but this night it was so loud we couldn’t even hear each other to have a conversation and the waiter basically forgot about our table. Needless to say we left much sooner than we had planned on. I’m sorry to say that the birthday dinner was nothing to celebrate about.
Wonderful location and meal... I think $6 is too expensive for mandatory valet when the parking lot is empty and my car is literally parked two spaces from the front door...
Our food tasted delicious! Service was on point.
Great location, excellent service, delicious food, BUT the tables are way too close together.
Our waiter MAX was the absolute best, he helped to make our birthday brunch celebration PERFECT and should be recognized for his excellent service. His warm and friendly demeanor and great care for his customers is something that is golden. The host and hostess during this visit were also very kind and hospitable! Please extend our thanks to everyone. This was during a visit yesterday, Sunday 12/9 for a party of 6 at 10:15am.
Great meal and service
Excellent menu selection. Very good service and of course how can you beat the location? Right on the beach in Del Mar, Ca.
Great location. Excellent food and excellent service.
Excellent food and excellent service! Josh was our waiter and he was fantastic! Great experience! 💐💕👍👏🎉
Overall an excellent experience. We will definitely be back!
I brought family from back east and we all agreed.... so much nicer than going to LaJolla!!!
The food was cooked perfectly and our waiter from Encinitas was exceptional!!
We met good friends we don’t see often for lunch here. After chatting, eating and, paying our bill, we were winding down our conversation (an hour and a half or so) when the waiter arrived to say that the manager had asked us to leave so they could put some tables together for a large group. We have never before had that happen at a restaurant and we were offended!
The ocean view was an amazing add to the great food at Jake’s. We will definitely be back!
Beautiful view and delicious lunch entrees.
I went to Jake's for a romantic dinner with my girlfriend, and I have to say that our server did a great job of giving us the exact right amount of attention when we needed it, and leaving us alone to enjoy our evening together. I had the Ahi for dinner and my girlfriend had a vegan dish, and both were excellent. Last, but not least, the location right next to the water, and the quiet, classy ambiance make it an ideal place for a special dinner.
We had a lovely birthday dinner with out of town friends. We all had the short ribs and the plates were clean. Our server was good except for a forgotten glass of wine and bread that arrived after we had finished our salad. We always enjoy our celebratory meals at Jake’s.
My steak was over cooked and dry. Otherwise, our meals were good. The servers were pleasant and fairly attentive.
I would give the restaurant another try in the future.
Jakes is lovely for lunch but this is the second time an evening meal has been ruined by the noise level from drunks. We would have asked for another table but the restaurant was full. The service and food are excellent but we will never eat at Jakes in the evening again. Our bill was substantial and it was for us just a waste of money as we were embarrassed to have inflicted the noisy evening on our guests. Jakes is no longer a restaurant - it is a very noisy, crowded bar. Obviously popular with people who like to drink a lot.
Celebrating 25 years of friendship in the perfect spot with such fun server. Will be back
Very loud and food out just a tad above room temperature. Totally disappointing
Great venue, superb service, very good food, reasonable prices
We live in the area and Jake's has been a long-time favorite. We've celebrated many special events here so we were excited to bring our extended family for Thanksgiving. Instead of our usual wonderful experience, we left embarrassed. Other than the bartender who greeted us warmly and served us a pre-dinner cocktail, the service was horrible. We learned that Jake's invites their staff and families to join them for a staff-family Thanksgiving at the end of the evening. What a wonderful gesture! Unfortunately, since we had one of the later reservations (made months in advance), our family got in the way of their evening with their own families. We were rushed from the second we were seated and were told that their spouses and children were waiting for them. Again, a great compromise for the management to show appreciation to their staff that gave up their holiday. But somewhere, the guests were forgotten. There should have been more of a lapse between serving guests and the Jake's-family/staff dinner. Not an inexpensive lesson and we won't be back.
Seafood dishes are good, not outstanding. The Hula Pie however is awesome. We like the ambiance with a commanding ocean view. Service is great and the waitress is tentative. We will visit more often, as the overall experience we had is positive.
The service was ok,waiter seemed pre occupied, view is spectacular, food was mediocre at best
As always, dining experience at Jake's Del Mar was perfect. I tried something new to me and was deliciously impressed...Shrimp & Crab Salad. My friend & I split the Appetizer/Seafood Chowder and split Dessert/"Sweet Cheeks" Key Lime Cheesecake. Both were exceptional. Attentive service and the beautiful view were appreciated.
When you order a beer, you get an 8 oz pour.
Great views, wonderful service and menu with many options. Had a very delicious brunch and reasonably priced. It was my birthday celebration and they brought a dessert,
Birthday for hubby
We are so glad we found Jake’s while searching for a special place to enjoy the sunset. The view can’t be beat!
Went here for my birthday dinner and it was well worth it. Consider taking uber/Lyft as parking is very limited. Started in the bar with happy hour. Nice choice of food, we got the shrimp and they were outstanding. Came and got us right on our reservation time. Great fresh fish and yummy bread. Topped it off with their famous hula pie and it did not disappoint. Would recommend going earlier in the evening as it gets crowded. Views are fantastic.
Jakes always a go to for visitors or other occasions
Great view, amazing service and excellent food!! Bonus point, kids friendly!
Truly enjoyed my birthday lunch at Jakes. The restaurant was packed, but that did not deter our outstanding server. The food was very good, and the view beautiful. To top it off, Jake's offered a choice of desserts gratis. Lovely day, hope to repeat soon!
Good and service were great
Jake's is always a pleasure. The wait staff is superb and makes the experience pleasant and effortless. The ambiance is stunning--a great place for a special occasion but be prepared to spend $$$$$.
We were visiting the area for the weekend! Ate here twice and loved it both times! Since it was a “date” night for us both times, the only downside for us was both times we were seated by small (loud) children. Otherwise the food was great and service was adequate for a busy night! Would highly recommend Jake’s to anyone visiting Del Mar
We had a lovely brunch with a friendly and efficient server. The location is amazing, but noise level was very high, I guess it’s unavoidable at such a popular spot! The food was very good as well. Would go back again!
