Jake's Bar & Grill Ratings and Reviews
Friendly staff. We were surprised to fine it not very busy on a Saturday noon. We did have a fairly quiet spot, as requested, as we are all older, and some are hard-of-hearing. Good service. There was one "miscommunication" according to the waiter, but my meal was brought out within about 5 minutes of those of the others, and since I was still eating my salad, it was not a big deal.
Probably the fifth time I've been to this restaurant. Only once(and it wasn't this time) was the service of the caliber one would expect. Usually service is slow and lackadaisical, it was only a little slow this time but the impatient attitude more than made up for it. My parents are older, it was their anniversary and making them feel bad about not being able to hear well in such a noisy restaurant didn't go over well with me. At least this time the steak was good. However, the deserts we took home weren't. The chocolate cake tasted stale/freezer burned.
If there were someplace else in Billings that was supposed to be good we would definitely go there instead, but according to Trip Advisor this is supposed to be the best restaurant; the rest have sketchy reviews. I keep hoping that next time I visit my parents there will be someplace else to go.
I requested that something be done by the staff for a retirement dinner. At first I had requested a cake but was told by the receptionist Jakes did not prepare special cakes. I was ok with this and the receptionist explained they could surprise the person being honored with a small piece of flourless chocolate cake with a candle. This never happened and it was obvious this special surprise was never communicated to the rest of the staff. I was very disappointed.
This place was recommended to us by a local and it has the BEST food and appetizers! The flavors are unique, which gives Jake's a huge edge over any steak place we've ever eaten at. It's hard to decide what to eat, because everything is truly phenomenal!!!!
The center cut sirloin appears to be a staple in Billings. Jake's did not disappoint. The clam chowder I had was fresh and homemade as opposed to out of a can. The state completely stood by itself without the need for any toppings however the pilaf as a side melded very well with the taste of the steak which was a perfect medium rare. My personal choice for dessert would be to add a moose to keep it on the light side however the desserts were better than adequate. The wine list while not exactly eclectic was quite acceptable for this level. It would probably be the only thing that could elevate this neighborhood gen higher which probably would not be a desired goal. I would highly recommend this to the traveler staying in this section of billings.
We were seated immediately upon arrival. Our server was waiting for us at the table, introduced herself, and presented the daily specials. She answered all questions regarding choices and followed up after serving. We had a great time and would go back again.
My sister and I were in town because our mother had been hospitalized. Not knowing our way around, we booked the earliest opening and easily found our way. It was NOT the Jakes in the downtown area near the hospital. My mistake. Anyway, we were a little stressed as you can imagine and felt a little frazzled. We were greeted very nicely upon arrival and made to feel quite welcome. Our server was very efficient and sweet. The food was excellent and just what we were looking for. We were served quickly but did not feel rushed. Other patrons were enjoying themselves and the parking lot was very full. And now I know why because it was a lovely meal.
Very good food, good service. Recommend you make a reservation as it is busy. They got us to our table after a short wait. We were all very pleased with our meals. Soup, salad, and bread was great. Steak, Chicken, giant crab legs were all delicious and we left stuffed. Will recommend to friends and family and we will eat here again. It is expensive so will save it for special occasions but it is worth the price.
We were 7 family members gathered from across the country, helping one to move into Billings. Nobody from here previously. Recommended by a friend. We had a great time. Able to converse. Everybody's food was delicious. We were seated promptly and not rushed. It's a little pricy, but the excellent ambience, food, and service make it worth every penny.
Very nice atmosphere. I love this restaurant. My wife and I usually choose Jake's for our rare date night, (and we live 1.5 hrs away)! Very friendly, attentive and quick service. A little too expensive for regular outings, but the food is absolutely worth it.
We ordered the prime rib medium rare and the waitress told us that they only had some medium well left, we said that would be fine. I remember why we order medium rare, the cut was definitely drier and not near as flavorful as prime ribs we have had there before. It is still a great place to eat.
We had reservations but the restaurant made us wait 15 minutes. This was upsetting because they seated 2 parties before us - and they did NOT have reservations. Then our waitress was sweet and nice BUT she had at least 2 other tables she was waiting on. One had 10 guests, the other 8 guests. There was no way for her to handle our table adequately. I love the food and usually things are good. But that evening was miserable and we had out of town family with us. It ruined the entire meal
The waitress was outstanding if not for her the night would have been a major disappointment. We had a 6:45 pm reservation. We got there 10 minutes earlier the hostess said it would be closer to the reservation time, which was fine. A family of 6 came in and two tables two arrived after us. The family of six and one table of two got seated before we did this was at 6:45. We didn't get seated till after 7:00 pm only because my wife gave the hostess a dirty look. The shrimp wonton was excellent. Mine and my wife's steak had no flavor and the top of it was burned and the middle was very pink. We both ordered medium well. Overall I would not go to this establishment again.
We are happy to have found a restaurant on the west side of town, which is where we stay when we travel through town. We sat at the bar and enjoyed appetizers and splitting an entre. Our server was attentive and helpful. He was also very well trained in wine service, an unusual occurrence today.
Even though we had a reservation, we had to wait approximately 30 minutes past the reservation time to be seated. Due to our waitress having too many tables (customers) to serve, we did not get our order taken for about 25 minutes after we were seated. They were out of several things we tried to order. When my steak came that was ordered as "Medium," I could barely put my fork in it and had to "saw" to cut it. I sent it back when I got the waitress' attention, I did not get my steak until everyone else at the table (7 others) were through with their meals. We were on vacation and were not impressed with Jake's at all.
We drive through Billings several times a year on our way from Denver to Whitefish. Lately, we have been staying on the west side of town and are happy to have found good food close by. Amber, our server, took excellent care of us. We enjoyed sharing the subtly spicy mussels and the pork shank. In fact, the shank was so generous that we shredded the rest for road food the next day. Thank you for your attention to details. We will be back.
