Jaiya - UES
1st time for my friend. She is coming back!
Nice ambiance but the food is terrible. The drinks were overwhelmingly sweet. The massaman curry tasted like peanut butter with tofu, not like a curry at all. And I’ve never ordered a curry where you had to pay extra for rice. It always comes with rice except at this place. My friends dish was extremely salty she almost couldn’t eat it. And I heard the table behind me send their food back because it was bad. Will not be back to this place.
Jaiya Uptown has always been a favorite restaurant, though we have not been here for nearly a year. Perhaps they changed chefs because their Pad Thai was a totally different style and the Green Curry Chicken (mild) was too thick -- it is best when the curry is more wet and a bit oily. The staff were wonderful as always and the ambiance excellent. Hopefully we were there simply on a wrong night. We will try them again.
Food was good and service was great, but it seemed a bit expensive for an everyday kind of dining spot. The prices were also not the same as what you see in the menu on open table. The open table menu seems significantly out of date as the paper menus had higher prices.
Nice atmosphere and ambience. The Jaiya special fish was absolutely delicious!
Our main courses came out cold.
I use to go to Jaiya all the time as a kid and coming back after so many years you can clearly tell the food quality has gone down and the service was practically non existent. My whole family was constantly on the look out for a waitress having to beg them to take our order. Not once were we asked if we needed anything or how the food was. It came down to the point we had to walk to the front to pay for the food since no one wanted to bring our check.
Great, great food. Love the ambiance. Attentive staff. Gorgeous wood bar and bar seat. A very nice reprieve from 'normal' restaurants.
As always I enjoy eating at Jaiya, the food never disappoints. I usually order the Jaiya special fish which is spicy, crispy and full of flavor.
Love the ambiance here! The decorations etc. Foods great - huge selection. The only thing that’s really lacking is the cocktails... they’re def interesting/creative but way too sweet and not great. Get the volcano Tom yum!
It was my Wife’s birthday.
We had a group of 5 and the service and food were excellent for all! We will go back! The decor was serene and interesting for dining . Thank you for a wonderful dining experience!
New Year lunch with friend
Excellent food. For Vegetarians it was very good menu choices
Service was terrible! There was a large party and even though our waitress wasn't completely assigned to their table, she was bad! 1st, they tried to seat us a table made for 8 (we were a party of 11)! They gave us 1 menu at a time, as though we were going to steal them! We had to ask for menu's repeatedly! (this happened with dessert as well!) We got our drinks after our appetizers. And please note: WHEN THEY SAY SPICY, THEY MEAN IT! Some of the food was inedible because it was too spicy - and those that ordered spicy can really eat hot food, this was beyond! Thank goodness the food was so good, otherwise it would have been a complete fail!
Excellent food and great service
We went with lot of expectations.
Thought we were going to Jaiya Thai the famous one.
Staff was rude. Food good
Bad service, food wasn’t up to scratch. Disappointed
Jaiya is one of my favorite Thai restaurants. The food is always good but this is the first time that got the spice level to my liking. In the past I think they were afraid to kick it up but not this time and the spice level was spot on for my taste. When I want spicy I want spicy and they finally delivered this last time. I like the Jaiya special fish and it was crispy and SPICY (my best yet).
I also introduced three of my girl friends to Jaiya and all were quite pleased. One was a vegetarian and did not like seafood and the other two did not like spicy food. We were ALL very pleased with the food. Keep it up Jaiya and our server Wen was excellent. Thank you for adding a great evening.
This was not a great experience at all. The food was either really sweet or not good at all. The drinks were really good and so was our waiter. She was really nice, however everything that we were served was not appetizing at all. We spent over $200.00 on food we either didn't eat or ate unhappily. We expressed our feelings and they took the birthday girl dinner off of the bill as she did not enjoy anything. On top of all of that there was a foul odor the whole time I had to endure while eating the food that I already wasn't pleased with.
Food took a whole hour to come after repeated asking. Their food is always good but if they are this backed up then they shouldn’t take reservations or at least warn people.
The service was horrible and took forever. Everyone seemed very confused. We had to order drinks several times from different people. The soup was not hot and we only enjoyed about half of the entrees that we had. The chicken curry and basil chicken were good.
The service has deteriorated here. I can understand dishes that are removed from the menu no longer being made, that is not a problem. But when it takes 30 minutes after being seated to be informed your dish can't be made, that's poor management. When dishes arrive for different guests at different times (over 10 mins between them), that's poor service. Total meal took 1 hour, 45 mins, mostly time spent waiting.
Very disappointed in this previous neighborhood gem. I hope they get their act together.
The room was lovely. The food was not as good as we hoped it would be. It looked better in your TV add.
Couldn’t understand a word the waitress was saying and she knew nothing about the menu
I have been to this restaurant a few times in the past. But last few times it has been very disappointing. For the money spent it did not feel worth it. Service was extremely slow. We had guests from overseas and we felt neglected all the time. Despite the restaurant being half empty.
Definitely not worth the money spent.
I was expecting upper east side service and quality of food. The food was over priced and the service was absolutely horrendous. I was a waitress and bartender for a very long time and that takes a lot for me to say. I have never been so disappointed with service in my life. The food was ridiculously spicy even though I asked for mild. It was uneatable! When I asked if I could please have a different dish the waiter said No! It would take too long! It was laughable at this point. The drinks took 20minutes to come out and everything came out one at a time. We even ordered a round of drinks that never even showed up! We had to have it taken off the check. The table next to us was a big party and was piling dishes on the side bench because their plates were never cleared, so we were sitting next to a pile of dishes the entire evening. This restaurant is not worth going to! Do yourself a favor and choose one of the other many restaurants in the area.
Such a cute little restaurant. I passed it on the street and decided to put it on my list to revisit later. And so I did. Cool atmosphere and such friendly staff. However unfortunately the food was very mediocre. Definitely not my favorite Thai place I’ve ever been to. I’ve had Thai from a Chinese takeout restaurant that tasted better than this 😔
Awesome food. Great cocktails. Cool decor.
Was very disappointed when I had to remind the waiter that this was a birthday meal for my granddaughter. I thought there would have been a special something, but we had to order something and pay for it. Not my idea and experience from other restaurants. If you want to know if it's a special occasion, then I would expect a little something. Even if it is just the fried ice cream and candle, but that should be offered, not as part of the bill. If you're not going to make it a special evening, don't ask if it's a special event. I won't do that again.
wonderful food, all good! Good service with both drinks and food. Didnt rush us out the door when we had finished which we appreciated. So rare now.
The servers/waiters were very peppy and in a happy mood. They did a good job explaining all the vegetarian options and how they were made. Also did a great job in recommendations and spice levels
Outstanding food. Great dining experience. Beer and alcohol prices are high adding to price of dinner.
The food is delish. Always love it. The seats are a little uncomfortable padding would help.
Used a different noodle than listed in the menu description and did not make it as spicy as I’d asked for. Bland
Usually never have a complaint
.food was amazing as usual..bit.for some reason thisnpast saturday the service was terrible..we got seated right on time...it took 20.mimites beforw oit drink.orser was taken and another 20 minites before we got them..and not at the same time...it took even longer fornthe food order to be taken and the food tok forever to get..we frequent rhis restairant often and this had.never happened before ...
My husband and I have been going to Jaiya for years and were excited that there is a location in UES when we moved into the neighborhood. However, each time we went, it wasn’t as good as before until when we went on Monday night this week and it was legitimately bad. The Tom Yum Soup was lukewarm, Larb was extremely salty, our favorite Triple Three Flavor Whole Snapper was overcooked, their most popular Wok basil had barely anything besides sauce and shrimp and even the Drunken Noodles was slightly sour. The food took a long time to come out even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. The meal was overpriced for the quality and they automatically included a 20% tip in the bill even though we only had 5 people and the service was just so-so. We were very disappointed and will likely not go back again.
I would recommend this place to my friends. food is very tasty.
Staff very friendly.
Birthday , great experience, delicious food as always
