Pleasant room. Very good sushi and sashimi, excellent short ribs. They were almost out of vodka, though, due to some weekend event (it was Tuesday) The sake was merely adequate. The server was pleasant but not very knowledgeable.

I'm truly puzzled by the negative reviews for Jado. In my eight+ visits in parties of two to six, I have never waited too long for service, or been disappointed by the food. My two negatives (OpenTable reservation system not switched on timely; no brown rice) are thoroughly overshadowed by many strong positives (lychee martinis, albacore sashimi special, sushi & sashimi samplers, crab avocado salads, sautéed Japanese mushrooms, anything Nakajima... the list goes on). I have never been there when the place was packed, but it's hard to believe a little more stress would collapse the quality of the food and service so drastically.

I have never reviewed a restaurant publicly in my entire life, but this has been a huge disappointment.

After a recommendation from a friend, Two friends and I came here. Not only did the server take forty minutes to take our order, the food also took an hour to come out, only for my order to come out wrong. The quality of the fish was ok but my friend's rice was cold for her chirashi (almost felt like they put it in the low boy until the other dishes were ready) The delay of our food and service just downgraded our food experience.

We all work in the industry and as much as we have high standards, we also understand the things go wrong in restaurants. However, this was utterly unacceptable.

They need to manage the staff better. Just because the head chef isn't there doesn't mean the overall experience should suffer.

The standard of a restaurant should stay the same at all times. Unless this was their standard. In which case, I have nothing more to say.

My second visit in a row during which the service was below par. The restaurant was either understaffed or the waiters were not trained/managed properly. We had to asked for our drinks (at least ) three times (during both visits). Despite being half full, a regular menu item was not available. One of these places that pretends to be upscale (in prices), but can not deliver (in service). Once food arrived it was ok.

Product quality was excellent. Can improve noise level on part of the customers. Also would be helpful a better explanation on the dishes and offerings especially for new clients.

First time EVER trying sushi and it was good. I had a tuna roll with white rice. I also had the spicy ninja roll which had tuna in it as well. Both rolls were good and for my first time I think it went well.

Lovely lovely. Delectable fish, finely prepared and visually stunning. Try the tartar, tuna is fresh and sensual. Edamame is different, called chimame, rich flavor. Sashimi and sushi is buttery fresh. The sushi bar cracks with a loud voice, beware the chef's cry! Super clean, friendly staff. Recommend trying Happy Hour which is next on my list.

I had visited the restaurant about a month ago and thought it was quite good. Unfortunately I was very disappointed this time. The food was at best average and the service ridiculously slow. The waitress was very sweet and apologetic but it shouldn't take an hour to get a salad and over an hour to get sushi.

The food is always perfect! The service needs some work, however, that may be due to high turn over. I usually end up getting what I ask for, but I wish it would be easier by now since I have been patronizing since the restaurant open in 2012.

Jado Sushi is one of my favorite spots uptown. The food and service is very good, especially the short ribs. The sushi roll are a good size and enjoyable. Their specialty drinks are good as well. A must go!

We been going to Jado since it opened. The waiters/Waitresses and the bartender provides excellent services and the food is very good. However, my only gripe and occasional observation that's annoying is, at times, I see the chef interacts one one one with Japanese customers only and never to other ethnic background. This time, I did voiced out my observation to a Japanese Maitre de and she provided a lame excuse-very disappointing. If this observation occurs again in our next visit, I am sure we would not starve for Jado.

First let me say the sushi was first grade. Service was slow but tolerable. When we finally did get our food, my husband said to me "the waitress just dropped a piece of sushi of out plate and took it back into the kitchen". So we waiting assuming they had to prepare another roll. She came out minutes later presented the plate which one roll had 8 pieces and one 7. She said enjoy. I said, "didn't you drop a piece of sushi off this plate?" She said, "oh yeah, I did but I couldn't put it back". Okay, that I appreciate but had we not actually witnessed this, she was not going to confess and was willing to sell us 7x pieces for the price of 8. It was a dragon roll and cost $14. We had to insists that she give us a discount which she agreed to take 1/8th off the bill. Unbelievable. We insisted she comp a soup which she reluctantly did. Unbelievable.

I've been frequenting Jado since they opened and I have never been disappointed, until now. I don't know if they got a new chef (since the braised rib appetizer was nothing like previous times) or what the issue was but i was not totally happy with the food and was greatly disappointed.
The Calamari appetizer was not good. it was tough and I guess over cooked, it had no taste and the outside layer was just overdone. I just can't even explain how unimportant it was to my taste.
The Rolls we ordered Poseidon, Spicy Ninja, & the Double Tiger were very good.
However we also ordered the Rice Special which did not come out until well after we were finished eating and I had to take it home which kind of defeats the purpose of eating out. Not to mention that it was not good at all. When they originally opened they had a Fried Rice on the menu that was amazing, this one paled so badly in caparison.
Jado is not an inexpensive place to eat and I certainly hope my next experience isn't like this...

The food is always great, but unfortunately the ambiance was ruined by screaming kids. I am not sure why 2 year olds are allowed to dine at a sushi bar. We love our kids, but when we are spending $200 after tax and tip, the least we expect is a relaxing dinner out. We had to deal with all the screaming and the management didn't do anything about it. Not cool!

This is a great sushi spot. Chef Nakajima is a truly professional sushi chef. But "Kaiseki" cuisine here is also superb.

Delicious food, great service, semi-expensive but WORTH IT. The signature rolls are actually pretty large not to mention so tasty. Also plenty of other options if you don't like sushi.

amazing sushi, been coming here for a few years. Freshest sushi I've had in NYC, closest to what I eat when visiting Japan. They have a happy hour which is good for after a busy day at work, you have to make a special reservation if you want omakase, not just a regular reservation.

Good sushi is served only if the principal chef make it. This pricy sushi restaurant should have been opened at mid- or downtown in Manhattan, not at the center of Harlem. Doesn’t fit for the community. Again, sushi is good.

This is the real Japanese Sushi. Others are NOT sushi. If you want to eat real Sushi at New York, you must go Jado Sushi.

Had a multi generational family dinner at this amazing Japanese restaurant. My niece loved her salmon teriyaki, the lobster taquitos were heaven, agadashi tofu was yummy....am not going to go through every dish as I am not a food critic but we had a delicious, satisfying meal with great service....

We had three rolls: jalapeno and tomatillo, spicy tuna, and eel and avocado. All were nicely done, as was the tekka maki (tuna roll w/seaweed on the outside) that came with our combo. The uni was on par with terrific uni we've had elsewhere, and the chu-toro was very nice. The other fish in our combo were good but not spectacular. Service was attentive and the atmosphere was cozy and fairly quiet.

I had read great reviews about Jado and from what I had gathered, it was worth the subway detour! Service was uneven all throughout the evening. We were a party of 4 from out of town and wanted to try new flavors and signature rolls. The waitress suggested us to start with the sushi platter but those were plain old California rolls and the spicy tuna rolls weren't even spicy or outstanding. 48$ for a handfull of sushis was a ridiculous suggestion. The sushis were dropped on the table without even taking a quick moment to describe what we were about to eat. We had to ask! We decided to choose ourselves rather than relying on her interpretation of "we want to try something different"! We tried the Crunchy salmon skin rolls, Black Dragon and Tinga chicken. All good.

I decided to try this place during happy hour. I was the only person and the bar till I called my friend who lived in the neighborhood. I was so impressed I went back the next week and took two friends. I loved the lobster taquitos appetizers. I also had the tuna mango roll which they don't have anymore. I also had the crab and lobster salad. When I went will friends we usually by different appetizers and I refused to share my lobster taquitos, they had to order their own. I love this place and will be back.

Love this place! I am sushi snob, and I can whole-heartedly say that this spot meets the expectation. The sushi is always SUPER fresh, with robust complimentary flavors. The staff is always friendly and attentive. And the bar is great as well. Aside from the sushi, try the short ribs appetizer. Delicious!

Food is not that special for the price. For a Japanese owned sushi restaurant, two stars might be a bit too much. Server was nice but so disorganized, not bringing tea which we order at the beginning till we asked after the meal was served and half done. Not going back again!

If you are looking for sushi that maintains it's celebrated tradition and yet will stretch the idea of what sushi is then you must try Jado Sushi. You can have your traditional nigiri, sashimi, or sushi and also their unique take on specialty rolls. One even comes with jalapeños! Their calamari appetizer was expertly cooked and arrived soft buttery and velvety. The tempura was light, flaky and airy. The sushi rice is expertly seasoned and prepared where you can get the individual notes of sweet and tangy.

Some of the sashimi cuts were a bit on the thin side and their teas are overpriced.
