    Food is always consistently delicious and well plated. Service was friendly and fun. The tables are quite close together and you do get the sense of being packed in and eavesdropping on neighbors' conversations.

    With comfortable outdoor dining getting harder to find, I'm delighted to have been introduced to Jacques. Their menu doesn't change much, but it has a lovely selection of plates so I always find something that appeals to me. They are known for their mussels which are plump and flavorful. The one in cream is my favorite. I've also had their salads and stew and they were tasty too. The servers are knowledgeable and appropriately attentive. They'll help you select a good glass of wine if you need a recommendation. I wish the tables were a tad bigger, but then it wouldn't feel as spacious.

    I understand it was Bastille Day, but we showed up for our reservation, and were not seated until about 20-30 minutes after our reservation time. While my steak was excellent, my companion's fish was pretty dry, and the accompanying brussel sprouts all but inedible. The staff was really hustling, and I appreciate that, but if your tables are booked, and you can't fit people in, it's probably not such a great idea to show on Open Table that there are reservations fully available every 15 minutes on a night like Bastille Day. With so many quality French restaurants on the UES, I'm not so sure I would return to this one.

    Had a nice lunch at Jacques Brasserie. It wasn't too busy and air conditioning was great on this hot and humid NYC afternoon. Started with a French Mile which was light and refreshing. We had the cheese plate to start, the apple slices could have been cut thicker or perhaps more added to the board to enjoy with the cheeses. My wife had the burger and I went for the Lamb Sausage sandwich. Both were good and tasty. The fries were fabulous! We shared Profiteroles for dessert and finished with a nice port. Overall it was quite an enjoyable meal.

    Jacques is a comfortable, traditional French Brasserie that is a neighborhood fixture. A great variety of items and the Wednesday special, Couscous Royale, is outstanding. I go there with a Tunisian native and he swears by it.

    I’ve eaten here many times over the years and everything has been fine. Yesterday I went for lunch . I realize there were only two waiters but there were also very few ( 6 tables) with guests. I waited 10 minutes before anyone took my order although another person sat at the bar and was served immediately. Neither the server nor assistant asked if I would like a refill of water or wine. No one inquired if my entree was correct. I can only surmise it was because I was eating alone. The manager also walked by and ignored me . I had to walk up to the bar to pay because the server didn’t come back for the check. (After 10 minutes)

    Seriously undercooked hanger steak, dry and overcooked burgers, and a bland lamb shank? Since we've been there before, we're hoping it was an off-night in the kitchen. The Maître d' overheard us talking about the food and offered complementary desserts, and the service was great otherwise, but I would have just preferred properly cooked food.

    I have written several reviews for this restaurant in the past. I dine there often. That by itself should be a review already. I will not spend my days writing a review for the same restaurant each time I go there. By the way, the chef must have changed because there escargots lacked garlic and the steak tartare had a new fruity ingredient in there. Please go back to what you always served or my next review will not be pleasant.

    This is my favorite neighborhood restaurant. Everything on the menu is very good and the service is wonderful. The prices are reasonable enough to go on a whim and the food delicious enough to go on special occasions. Inside the dining room can be kind of noisy so I am especially glad they have an outdoor section.

    The ambiance was very pleasant. We were seated at a comfortable booth in the rear of one dining room which worked well for us as one person in our party has a hearing problem. We were there for brunch. It was Father's Day, but there were some empty tables in our dining room. All the staff was amiable. The main problem was the lack of attention on the part of our waiter. It was a while before we were able to order. It may be that our waiter was too busy providing service to the outside area of the restaurant, or that the kitchen staff was overwhelmed, but it took far too long for our simple brunch order to be served to our table. I had to ask other staff twice to ask him to come to our table to pay for the meal. The food was acceptable, but nothing exceptional. The positive side is that we didn't feel "rushed" to finish and vacate the table. I would recommend this restaurant as a comfortable neighborhood place to dine with moderate food at moderate prices, and be prepared for slow service.

    Good food, ample portions. The decor needs a little upgrading -- the maroon leather benches are fine, but the individual chairs look a bit worse for wear. Wine prices rather high compared with other similar brasseries.

    It’s a real shame how this previous favorite of mine has deteriorated so. I have been eating here every now and then since 2002. I took my wife last night and was incredibly shocked at how incompetent the service has become. You get better service in a fast food restaurant if you understand what I mean

    This was the second time we ate at Jacques Brasserie and for sure we will be back soon. We both ordered the steak frites and the steak was tender and delicious. Strongly recommend the tart de pommels! Service was way m and efficient.

    Pleasant French Brasserie however although server and bus boys were friendly, they were not attentive. No one was ever around and the dining room was fairly empty at 6:30 on a Mon. The cheese plate appetizer was tasty and coq au vin authentic. I wasn’t happy with the mushroom paparadelle however. It was supposed to be a cream sauce, but instead it was orange and oily. Not at all as expected. Apple tart was very nice but seemed to need more sugar. Overall this restaurant seems a bit tired and needs a bit of a facelift, but it’s good for a casual meal.

    We were 9 minutes late (this is NYC) and the manager rolled his eyes and told us he had cancelled our reservation. He was obviously annoyed. He gave us a table in a corner where it was difficult for wait staff to pass by. My food arrive cold. I had been there several times before. I won’t be back again.

    On a damp chilly night we sat outside in a mostly enclosed area attached to the front of Jacques. We waited 15 minutes for a server to come over. He brought menus, announced the specials and turned to walk away. I asked him if we could order drinks at this time. He took our drinks order and returned with them. Then after a further quarter hour with no one coming to our table, I waved down a different server in the main part of the restaurant. She came over and said we could place our order with her. We ate our starters, the plates cleared and entrees were served. When the original waiter removed the starter dishes, he also took my silverware but did not replace them. So when the main courses were served, I had no utensils to eat with. Nearly ten minutes passed before the waiter stopped by to ask if everything was ok. When I told him I had no silverware, he smiled and grabbed a setup including napkin from a nearby empty table. At the end of the meal, after coffee, we waited and waited for a check. None came. Finally we flagged down our original waiter and asked for the bill. He told us the computer was down, thus no bills could be produced and that a repairman had been called. We asked the waiter to send over the manager. At this point we had been in the restaurant well over two hours and were more than ready to leave. The waiter said we had to wait until the computer was repaired or to write down our credit card numbers and let the restaurant fill in the blanks. The manager never came over. We offered to leave our names and phone numbers and to stop in the next day to settle the bill. The waiter left, created a manual bill and handed it to us. We paid in cash and went home. Good food did not make up for terrible service and rude dealings with the restaurant. Strictly an amateur production. We will not return. Diners beware.
