Fabulous food and ambiance, we are here often and enjoy every minute of our experience! However , one main concern that has been developing from our past visits and the most important in my view - THE BAR , the cocktails are in need of attention , last night I ordered an old fashion and it was awful , Makers Mark with cherry juice and a cherry with crushed ice , come on you can do better ! My wife had a Cosmo and it was weak and watery. I have a solution to my distress ( I make a lot of money solving problems ) stop the waiters from making cocktails! Or make them upstairs. When its busy , hire real bartenders. Problem solved ! Can’t wait until my next visit!

Absolutely wonderful!! Fantastic service, delicious food, wide variety of selections. Really enjoyed the outdoor patio dining alternative. Over the years, I have always enjoyed the Chez Francois experience and look forward to returning again.
I have for years believed that this restaurant was overrated and overpriced. Our last visit confirmed my view. The food is just average. Service. however, was excellent.
I love the authentic Alsace menu. You are not rushed and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly.
Chez Francois never disappoints for outstanding food and service. We met at Jacques Cafe with 2 other couples for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon and chose to dine outdoors. There were a few other diners there when we sat down, but they all left soon after, and we enjoyed a very leisurely, private meal with fantastic service and food! The three ladies chose the Salmon w/Bearnaise; the gentlemen each had different entrees -- sauteed trout, veal scaloppine with Virginia ham and mussels in wine sauce. All were, of course, expertly prepared and presented; we all cleaned our plates! The bread basket was kept overflowing with both the rolls and garlic bread.
I was overjoyed to hear they were serving my favorite plum tart for dessert and my husband had a piece of hazelnut cake. Other couples each shared their choice of a chocolate tart and cheesecake with raspberry sauce. Again, not a morsel was left! Additionally, our server asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. We said we were just celebrating "our friendship". She not only surprised us with an additional dessert of chocolate ice cream with whipped cream and a candle on top but we were not charged for any of our desserts!
The six of us spent a number of years enjoying a Christmas dinner in the more formal dining room of Chez Francois but had not been there for a good while. I can't think of a more special place for a casual get together like we enjoyed on this particular afternoon or to celebrate a special event in the more formal dining room. Looking forward to returning soon!
Just me and my wife I had the crab cake and she the soft crabs. Fabulous
Amazing “Hand Picked” Bloody Mary with the freshest ingredients. Jacque’s Tarte Benedicts are amazing, I had the mushroom tarte and it was absolutely perfect. The eggs were perfectly poached and the mushrooms were beyond delectable. Definitely coming back for another brunch date.
LOVE is what I have to say about this little piece of heaven. Comfy, cozy and welcoming. You won't want to leave. So many things to try. I look forward to every meal I have at Jacques. You must try the roquefort tart. You must try the soups. My favorite is the split pea and I also love the lentil. The omelets are amazing! On this visit my table shared a beautifully bold white Burgundy wine after our cocktails. I as usual got my roquefort tart, my husband got the onion soup and my sister got the bacon tart. I got the peppercorn steak which was the special. My husband got the filet tips that were so tender and seasoned perfectly. My sister got the seafood pasta which she said was amazing! It had lobster sauce and saffron as the base. Desserts are always beautiful. I got the raspberry souffle' and my sister got the chocolate tart. The service is the best! Dany is by far the most helpful person. I always look forward to seeing him and he gives the most excellent suggestions.
Wonderful casual take on our favorite special restaurant in the Washington area, Chez Francois l'Auberge. Nice to sit outside in good weather.
Really smart to open the Brasserie as it gives patrons the option to eat some of Francois food but in a more casual atmosphere. Make sure to show up early if you want to be seated outside
Food was outstanding as usual. Service was average, which is below average for Jacques.
Great meal in a pleasant outdoor setting overlooking the garden. The weather was perfect, and the food was outstanding, as usual. We especially liked the tomato salad with the heirloom tomatoes (from the garden), and I enjoyed my escargot with the garlic butter. We both enjoyed the baked Alaska with our cappuccinos. Thanks for a great meal!
This was the first time we tried “downstairs”. Food is just as great (it’s the same chef), service by the same wait staff (they take turns). It’s a different experience by design. No tablecloths. Less dressy. Closer tables, smaller space, noisier. A la carte menu. It was really a bargain and because we were celebrating our anniversary on a weeknight/work day, nice to skip some niceties, and courses. We left full, but less stuffed than usual. They purposely make dinner less leisurely and it works great for this spot. (Upstairs is extended leisurely dining.)
Best veal scallopini ever. Cassoulet was also excellent.
Went to Jacques Brassiere to try it out for a casual wedding anniversary dinner. We sat on the outdoor patio because weather had cooled down even though we had reservations inside.
We had the grapefruit and pomegranate cooler to start off with the breads and garlic toast. Husband ordered the salmon and I ordered the calf’s liver with carmelized onions and bacon (best bacon I ever have eaten). I haven’t had liver in years and it was prepared so well. Both entrees were cooked to perfection and the vegetables that came with the entree was fresh from the backyard garden—orange beets, carrots, yellow squash. The summer gazpacho was full of fresh and finely diced onions, carrots, cilantro. We each ordered the chocolate soufflé which was excellent —waiter poured extra chocolate sauce inside the hot soufflés after he broke the surface with a tablespoon. Coffee was smooth and complemented the dessert. A surprise baked meringue with ice cream arrived just before the check. We were quite full but not overly stuffed as when we have dined upstairs. Recommend Jacques—same quality of food in a more casual atmosphere. Inside seemed a little loud on my trip through the brassiere to restroom due to the tile floors. Outstanding quality! We will be back.
We are been going to Chez Francois since it opened. The Brasserie is a wonderful excuse to go more often. Everything was excellent this evening. A lovely way to celebrate a birthday
As always the food was excellent,but the service was not on-par. We went to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and service was a little slow throughout, but not to the point it became a big issue until towards the end. When we ordered desserts, my wife chose the plum tart over the meringue. Yet, the waitress brought out a meringue dessert with a candle, and said it was compliments of the restaurant. We were going to say something, but it wasn’t worth complaining about, and my wife enjoyed it, but we were thinking the whole time that the waitress mixed up her dessert choice. I had ordered the soufflé earlier, and we couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t delivered at the same time as the meringue. To my earlier comment about the slow service, it was a good bit of time before our waitress reappeared, and by now I didn’t really want the soufflé any more, however when she did show up she had the soufflé AND my wife’s plum tart!! We thought that was odd - who eats a second dessert after a large meal? My wife asked for the tart to packed so we could take it home, although they didn’t send it with the cinnamon ice cream that accompanied it (note: not sure why they couldn’t put it in a small styrofoam cup with a lid). Unfortunately, the whole evening ended on a sour note, which was disappointing. While our appetizers and entrees were delicious, my soufflé was not. I’m sure we’ll be back, but my expectations have been lowered.
Expect traditional French cuisine with no frills. A mediocre experience but worth the try.
This was our second trip to L'Auberge, the first time being many years ago, and it was our first time to the Brasserie. We loved it. The atmosphere was superb, the food was delicious, and the staff were warm and friendly. And, as an added pleasant surprise, we saw Danny who used to be our favorite waiter at the long gone LeCanard. We would greatly recommend this place. It certainly won't be years before we are back.
Excellent food and service were marred by a family with very young and noisy children. Though there was probably little if anything that the restaurant could do, Great Falls is too far to drive for meals that can’t be enjoyed.
I was expecting more varieties of wine by the glass. The server was quite nice and brought 2 samples of red wine, but none were any good, the she called someone else who recommended another red -- having said that, I had 2 glasses of wine, one glass of white for $10 and one glass of red for $26 and both were great. The vegetables were overdone, but still good. The appetizer portions are quite big in comparison to the size of entree, and I much preferred my appetizer to the main meal which was a steak -- I have had better steaks. Maybe next time, I will order 2 appetizers.

Jacques' Brasserie at L'Auberge Chez Francois is amazing spot downstairs that is like a little piece of the upstairs. The service and food is as beautiful and excellent as upstairs. I love having brunch at Jacques. Dany is amazing. I enjoy seeing him every time. He knows exactly what my husband and I like to drink and eat. He is excellent. Lately I have been enjoying the outside patio for dining. I have been getting the same table outside that overlooks the conversation area and the beautiful gardens. My favorite drink at Jacques is Le Picon Bière (Amer Siedel). My husband loves the Sage Cape Cod. The garlic toast is accompanied by cottage cheese. It's wonderful. I absolutely LOVE the soups especially the split pea and my other favorite is the lentil. Beautifully prepared. On this occasion, I got the cheese omelet and potatoes. My husband got the cheese omelet with the tomato salad. The tomatoes were very fresh. For dessert I opted for the cheesecake that was so light and fluffy. My husband got the peach melba that he said was amazing. Jacques is our little piece of heaven. We always enjoy it and feel relaxed.
L’Auberge is our favorite restaurant, the Brasserie our second favorite! Outstanding food is served in a casual atmosphere.
Our meal was perfect...with the slight exception of an entree price under-quoted by $5.00. We chose a lobster with citrus dish that we have enjoyed upstairs several times, that is not on the Brasserie menu, the waiter quoted $47.00. We were charged $52.00. Careless on the waiter’s part to quote a price, and not notice the more than 10% difference in price.
Did we ask for a refund? No. We should have, could have, but the dining room is small and I did not want to spoil an otherwise memorable evening with my wife. Were we overcharged? Don’t know!
If management is reading this, you should discuss this faux pas with the waiter.
The Brasserie is just tremendous. There really is nothing like it in Northern Va. The main reststurant is world famous. The Brasserie is so much fun.
Always excellent. Have been coming for years and will continue to go. Never had anything other than a wonderful experience.
Don’t get the burger. Its terrible. Way too much filler!
This is a must for fine dining. Every bite of every dish we have had is extraordinarily good.
Local treasure. Amazing food quality and so delicious. The more formal Chez Francois is always incredible especially for a special occasion. Jacques Brasserie is fresh and fun - our favorite place for date night or lunch. The outdoor patio is lovely!! They never fail to deliver superior quality food!
Always a treat but would enjoy seeing more of a variety on the plate as far as side vegetables. It was a birthday dinner celebration and usually they are so attentive to that- this time they were not.

The Brasserie brings the same great food, quality, ambience and service as L'Auberge in a much more relaxed context and with a simpler menu...the only drawback is the small room tends to be noisy when full (most peak times)...
We had a wonderful birthday lunch outside on the patio for my daughter’s birthday. It could not have been more delicious or lovely!!

L'Auberge and Jacques Brasserie are so consistently great, we have been going regularly for years. If you like French cuisine, this is the best you can get in DC. The outdoor patio is a little slice of Provence, when the weather is nice there's no better place to enjoy your meal! I don't have favorites on the menu, because every single item is wonderful. If you've never visited, you should go. If you have, go back soon!
