French
Restaurants in Alsace traditionally have a formal main dining room as well as a casual dining room known locally as a weinstube or brasserie. At the brasserie, diners may enjoy traditional, hearty Alsatian dishes in a warm and relaxing atmosphere. These friendly establishments are immensely popular with Alsatians and visiting them is always the best part of my trips back to Alsace. I opened Jacques' Brasserie at L'Auberge Chez François to bring the tastes and comforts of the Alsatian brasserie to Great Falls.

The experience of dining at Jacques' Chez Francois is an institution on the DC-Northern Virginia area - the quality of food, service, and ambiance is extraordinary and never disappoints. The Brasserie affords more intimate and less formal dining, with the same excellence from the kitchen. My calves liver was nothing short of sublime. Even the seasonal mulled wine was simply... special. This kind of dining and the entire experience is to be cherished.

Our first time to Jacques Brasserie and we found it very good. The food was excellent (trout and beef bourguignon), and the wine list is outstanding. Highly recommend the seafood pastry appetizer!
Service was bistro-level: nothing to complain about, and nothing exceptional. The place was totally full at 6:30 on a Friday, including every seat at the small bar (5-6 seats & two small tables in the bar area). But the whole place was mostly empty by 8:00. Plenty of parking on-site. Although Jacques Brasserie is the less expensive adjunct to the white-tablecloth Auberge Chex Francois, it is still pricey enough to be a special occasion destination for us.

Nice spot for a casual lunch. The food and service were beyond compare. I heartily recommend the bouillabaisse, the house special aperitif, and the dark chocolate tart--especially if you are a chocolate lover.

On a cold rainy night, this cozy gem was just right, from great wine to rich French onion soup, mussels et frites and a soufflé and cappuccino to end the night.

Bottom line - AWSOME ! We have been coming here for over 30’years. Never disappointed! During the holidays it’s a wonderful experience, all decked out for the holidays it’s hard to leave. Pam is an excellent bartender and would highly recommended all her cocktails. My wife had the Apple Mimosa and It was excellent! David is a great server and very attentive to all our needs and offers great wine recommendations. Save room for dessert , chocolate tart and Hazelnut cake out favorites. Another nice feature , is the Gluten Free options from bread at the table , many entrees and dessert.

Sadly, I would say that our meal was mediocre at best. The snails, mussels, and onion soup were good (not great). The mushroom tarte and charcuterie were not good at all.

Very disappointed- we were looking forward to it.

The service was very good and it still is a charming place but that unfortunately does not make up for the less than satisfactory food.

I LOVE everything about Jacques' Brasserie at L'Auberge Chez Francois. I love L'Auberge Chez Francois so I love the Brasserie. The Brasserie is a little piece of heaven. It is a smaller version of L'Auberge Chez Francois. I love everyone there. Dany is wonderful. I could sit there all day with a beer and some of their garlic toast w/ cheese. On this occasion I switched things up a little. I got the onion soup which was hearty and wonderful. I got my usual of the roquefort tart which I LOVE. I ordered some frites with hollandaise and finished with my raspberry soufflé'. My husband changed things up a bit. He usually gets the sunday chicken but on this occasion he got the country ham and goat cheese omelet. I took a bite and it was so good! I also tried a new drink that was out of this world - the pumpkin white russian was AMAZING!

This is not my first time dining at the Brasserie. I asked my friends to drive over 25 miles to come meet me here as it was going to be their first visit. This time around, the management didn’t proactively work towards alleviating extremely loud and rude noise problem that came from specific patrons. Even all other patrons were staring in awe at these patrons. We had an extremely difficult time trying to 1) hear the server, 2) place our orders, 3) conversing with each other even when we were practically having to scream at each other while sitting very close to one another already, 4) enjoy our dessert (yes, we even bit the bullet to try to enjoy the dessert time).

Always worth the trip from DC to Great Falls Virginia to dine at L' Auberge Chez Francois Brasserie. The drive once off Route 7 is gorgeous and the Autumn colors make it even more spectacular. Started out with two very dry Grey Goose martinis and appetizer of salmon prepared three different ways. I had the green salad that was crisp, fresh and lightly dressed. She had the duck for an entrée and I had a most superb cassoulet. Bread provided throughout the meal was fresh and old-world style. Bottle of Saint Emillion red wine during the meal. She had espresso and I a black cup of fresh coffee. Magnificent meal and service. Already planning our next reservation!

Jacques is one of our “go to” places for a reason: authentic Country French food served by attentive and professional staff. In warm weather the patio is wonderful and the fire pit burns in the cooler times out there. Jacque has a beautiful vegetable garden that compliments other fresh ingredients. Best gluten free menu as well.
Lunch or dinner, this is a great cozy place.

This was our first visit to the new (to us) Brasserie that has been added below L'Auberge Chez Francois. It was my wife's birthday and, while we have been to Chez Francois on a few occasions, including my birthday some years ago, we decided to opt for the new and reportedly less expensive Jacques Brasserie. The food was excellent, just as we had expected, and the service was wonderful. It was a bit more noisy with the hard surfaces, but I expected that from the reviews and photos. I'm not convinced it was any less expensive, however, unless the main dining room prices have risen markedly since our last visit. It's also possible our tastes have graduated to more expensive dishes and wines. The final "l'addition" seemed comparable our dinners in the linen tablecloth main dining area. We will definitely come back for the food and service. I am happy to pay for an experience that I cannot recreate at home, which is not true for most mid-tier restaurant experiences.

Something seems to be not right in the kitchen anymore at this place; we dined upstairs a few months ago and felt similarly. My salad was wilted with bland dressing, the lemon sole was mealy, and my husband's Roquefort tart was quite small with an unremarkable (from frozen?) crust and garnished strangely with a few grapes and a random raspberry set on top. Baked Alaska was underwhelming. The ambience and service is excellent but honestly the food has been mediocre twice now. It's a shame because it's such a special location. I hope someday the food will improve so it will be worth the drive and splurge.

Went for the first time for our anniversary to relive a France trip after reading so many good recommendations for so long. One of those rare instances of living up to expectations. Food was wonderful and authentic (cassoulet, lobster thermidor, cheese plate, beef tenderloin plus bread was fantastic). Service was attentive but not overboard. The atmosphere is delightful and makes you feel like you really could be in France. The only smallest of small downsides...we noted our anniversary and our first time on the reservation and no recognition. But we were too full and satisfied for dessert so not a big deal.

If you choose to go a little more casual and not as many courses as the upstairs option - you will not be disappointed! The food is coming out of the same kitchen and just delicious. I can never dine here without having the lobster salad. The vanilla bean dressing is what makes it stand out above all others. Although one can fill up on the garlic bread and complimentary signature herb cottage cheese-like spread, at some visit you have to try the mushroom, shallot pizza. It is literally a "sink your teeth into" savory delight. The entree's are delicious and similar to what your entree would be upstairs. The place has a real buzz to it - and if you want quiet and peaceful, sit outside or at the fire pit. I would highly recommend, which is difficult for me because I want it to stay our neighborhood gem!!

LOVE! This is a little piece of French heaven. It's a smaller version of L'Auberge Chez Francois. It is comfort and you won't want to leave. If it's your first time, it won't be your last. Whether you go book upstairs or downstairs you will always go back. Dany is amazing and always makes sure you are comfortable. We first met him when he was a server and now he is like a friend. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Must haves - the roquefort tart (YUM), any soup he has but my favorites are the lentil soup and my other favorite is the split pea. I could have them all the time. Pure comfort. You would be shocked to know that they have the amazing hamburgers. My husband just had one last night. They are cheesy with bacon and really juicy. The souffles' are amazing. We always get the raspberry. Last night I got the pumpkin dessert that was really good. I love pumpkin. I love this place!
