Southern

Jacobs Pickles in New York was an inevitability for owner Jacob who grew up in love with food. Established in 2011, Jacobs Pickles is a hit on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Providing guests with Southern style comfort food summed up as beer, biscuits, pickles. Made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients, the food is unbeatable. In true form of the South, a selection of biscuit sandwiches includes sausage and gravy, honey chicken and pickles and BBQ varieties. Other menu items include matzo ball soup, catfish tacos, low country meatloaf and shrimp and bacon grits. The menu at Jacobs Pickles provides a section of take-aways for jars of house made pickles.

Came here a few months back in October with a few of my girls for my sisters birthday. The food was AMAZING!! The portions were huge and the resturant itself was pretty. The food was so good we were craving it recently . My sister and I decided to go again . I was very dissapointed . The food wasnt as great as we remembered, it was average. Something changed. The fried chicken was barely crispy. Maybe we came on an off day , but they werent busy. The last time we went we had to wait 2 hrs . We also went on a saturday that day. This time we went on a regular Thursday afternoon.

The food was great and the portions were huge--the 4-type pickle plate came in giant mason jars filled with pickled veggies and the biscuits are enormous--but everyone is seated together at long tables, crammed in side by side. It's very crowded, there's not much room to maneuver, and it's quite loud. The selection of music on Valentine's Day was great though, lots of 90s stuff. The loudness affects service, too, since the waiter brought me the wrong thing at first due to not being able to hear me properly. Then it took two tries to get the correct order out to the table. If they just didn't cram so many people into such a small space it would be a fantastic place to eat.

I booked a reservation for Valentine's Day with my boyfriend (all I could get was 4:45p and it was packed) At first they seated us at a communal table in the very back, uncomfortably sandwiched in the middle of a long table. We were initially not impressed or happy with the arrangements on what was supposed to be a romantic special night. But we asked the host if we could wait for the soonest private table and they were EXTREMELY accommodating! Even treated us to a round of drinks! Our night was completely turned around and we had an AMAZING experience! The service staff was extremely nice, and food even better!

We went to lunch with our twin infants, 2 year old son and nanny. We were a logistic nightmare with strollers and car seats and diaper bags (very not NYC) and yet everyone from the hostesses to the waiters to the manager were so kind and accommodating! We really felt welcome here when a lot of other establishments would have treated us like a nuisance. It made the whole experience wonderful on top of how delicious the food and drinks were!!

The server was great - very attentive and accommodating. The pickles were as good as they should be, what with pickle in the name of the place. And the food was outstanding! The fish tacos were some of the best I've ever had, and everyone I was with agreed. We'd ordered a plate to share at the table, and the plate was practically licked clean, so i highly recommend trying them. And the portions are huge. I had split a chicken and pancakes with someone, and even still we couldn't finish off the plate of food. The grits were to die for, and the biscuits are a must try. And to finish of an excellent meal, you must try the bread pudding......the server gave us a complimentary dish to share, and even though everyone was stuffed, we still managed to finish off the plate, once again licking it clean. If you want great food at a good price with great service, then this is the place to eat. But make sure you bring your appetite!

My staff and I had a great time. Our waitstaff was attentive and the food and beverages were awesome ( except the latkes - that was only ok) Would have loved to have the dinner menu available for a late lunch / early dinner choice. I would have loved a round table so it would have been more interactive for the group but judging from the noise we were making, it was fine. Great experience. Thanks!

I am from the Deep South and this southern food will not disappoint. It's is not greasy heavy southern. It is elevated southern cuisine. The fried chicken is perfection and the biscuits are incredible. Jacobs Pickels is a must if you are in New York.

I had 16 people with me for my birthday, and Jacob's pickles set up an amazing pre-fixe dinner with enough food that I'm still eating leftovers days later. We had a ton of fun, and the food was all delicious. I can't recommend it highly enough. The staff were also great at dealing with 16 people worth of drinks and a few dietary restrictions, and were very accommodating about splitting the check.

The quality of the food is excellent. I love the unique pickled menu and the cocktails are great classics. The portions however are ridiculous and perfectly explain why this country is overweight. Also such portions are not economical and they waste so much food. Even though the quality is tremendous I probably will not go back because the portions were so depressingly large.

The food is always great here, but it is extremely loud. A group in our 20s and early 30s came ate here the other night, and it was so loud that we couldn't have a conversation with the people sitting next to us and chose to leave immediately after our meals (forgoing delicious dessert and other drinks) to find some place quieter.

We have been to Jacob's Pickle many times for brunch, it is one of our favorite places, and we love it. The food and service have always been excellent and the ambiance is energetic and fun. This past Sunday, we wanted to introduce our friends that live in the area to the restaurant as we thought they would really enjoy it. We were so disappointed and embarrassed. While the food was delicious and the service OK the music was SO LOUD we could not hear each other! Not only was the music loud, it was rap which we found a strange choice for a Sunday evening with many families dining with children. We asked to have the music turned down several times. Our server told us that she would ask but doubted that they would do it. My guest asked several times to no avail. It really ruined the experience for us. While I totally understand loud, fun music later in the evening for a bar atmosphere and young crowd, Sunday dinner is not the right place to blast loud music. We do like the restaurant and will be back for brunch but I hesitate to go back for an early dinner.

We decided to try Jacob's Pickles for a family get-together. We were a large group, so were able to make a reservation. From the difficult time we got upon checking in and the condescending attitude of the hostess, to the crowded communal table (they might make that fact known in advance), to the high noise level, low light and over-fried food, I don't think we'll be going back. Apparently these things don't seem to bother others as it always seems to be crowded; guess there is so much appeal to something 'different' that people overlook their flaws.

We were a group of 6. We had a corner table, which was great and the service was wonderful. The waitress and other servers were all nice and kind and patient. However, in my memory, the food was much better than what I had that day. The fried chicken was dry, not puffy or crunchy. The coleslaw salad looked like it was from a week ago. As soon as I saw the dish, I was already out of appetite. The taste was just a confirmation of what I was afraid of. Last time when I was here, everything was just perfect, hence I kept telling people to come here. When I finally got a chance to come back, in addition of another 5 people I dragged in, I was very disappointed by the food.

Of course, you aren't going to get in for brunch without a reservation--but the best part is, once you do. you can actually have an amazing, gourmet brunch or lunch for less than $20. Totally worth making a reservation, and makes you feel like a fancy UWSer-- even if you actually live in Harlem, like me.

I don't normally order pancakes anywhere, but these biscuit pancakes are full-bodied and fluffy. They are light, but don't get mushy when you put Jacob's thick, rich syrup on top. ... and the CHICKEN. It's my favorite fried chicken ever -- just the right amount of breading on the outside, full of flavor, and soft enough to blend in with the pancakes and solid helping full of bacon sprinkled over and in-between them. This is my favorite brunch meal in the city, and the only thing I've ordered the handful of times I've been. A must have.

I highly recommend this restaurant! The food is amazing, really decently priced, and for a large quantity per dish. They have a great selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. The service has been impeccable every time, and we are always well taken-care of. It is often quite busy, we like to go during lunch on weekdays as it isn't as busy, but we would recommend making reservations ahead of time. Our friends and family very much enjoy dining here, and always look forward to going back!

I live in the Upper West Side, and Jacob's Pickles is always my go-to recommendation for visiting friends. They're always packed, which can be annoying sometimes, but honestly that's what happens with good restaurants in NYC. We were a group of six, and the best part is that JP doesn't normally take reservations (they text you when the table's ready so you can wander close by), UNLESS you're a group of six or more. Large groups are usually seated in the back at a long communal table with other diners. Everything's smothered in gravy (or maple syrup in the case of my friend who finished all of his fried chicken and pancakes) and generally served with these surprisingly tasty grits. It's all pretty heavy as you can imagine, but oh so tasty. The music is a bit loud for my taste. The decor is well done, and there's outside seating. On weekend nights there's a large crowd of people standing by the bar. Go here!

if you want to eat with strangers and not converse with the people you know, this is perfect for you. Mostly long communal tables with deafening noise level. Lighting so dim you couldn't read the menu. I might of tried one of the many interesting cocktails if I could have read about them. Memorize the menu online before you come. the food was very tasty, fried pickles the best, but consider if you want to chat with your party or just scream and eat.
