Jacky's Waterplace Restaurant (Downtown, Providence)
Ordered a chirashi bowl that was served as sashimi on a plate and a side of three different rice bowls? I can’t eat that much rice!! I must say that the fish was fresh. My husband’s maki roll entree was mediocre at best. Good ambiance for a date night but food is definitely overrated. Service was ok.
I was disappointed that in my reservation I wrote it was an anniversary dinner ( it asked if it was a special occasion) and the server/restaurant didn’t acknowledge it one bit. Not even a verbal congratulations was given to us. I have been to other restaurants that give you a toast or a special dessert this restaurant did nothing
All I can say is “awesome “! Loved all of the sushi we had and the duck was great!
Very smooth. Service attentive. Food tasty.
Great place. Unique food items. Lively ambience. Good service
Great place with delicious food. Good service! Great location! Will be going again soon 🙂
I made the reservation over two months in advance specifically to have a window table for Water Fire - I even called to confirm.
We sat no where near a window
We had submitted a special request or a specific table well ahead of time. Because this was a special WaterFire night, I then even called that day to make sure they still had the request. The answer then was that they can’t guarantee specific tables. When we got to the restaurant they said the same thing. But the hostess could not have been nicer and after some “research” said she thought the table would be available shortly. Bottom line, we got it, were seated on schedule, and were delighted with it. Loved the meal, service was great, and really appreciated having that particular table which has come to be our favorite.
Beautiful place!!!! So glad we decided to go to dinner here during our stay in Providence last week. The service was wonderful although it was very busy. I guess my timing was right for making a reservation for 2 because there was a slight wait for our table and while waiting people began pouring in for dinner. I tried the pear martini and what a refreshing option to accompany my maki rolls. I absolutely loved the decor! The only bummer was the table beside us was very obnoxious and loud which kinda took some of the romance out of our meal but otherwise I would definitely go back
Added bonus although it was getting a bit chilly on Saturday and I did not know it was there... the patio overlooking the water where you can eat or just sit along the edge overlooking everything from upstairs with cocktails. We were there for Water Fire and had we known last Saturday upon our arrival when it was like 80 outside, we totally would have gone there to watch.
Great food and drinks. Excellent location. Would recommend you check it out.
The food and atmosphere were excellent. Skip the calamari, which was well-cooked, but bland and flavorless. The Steak and Shrimp was cooked to perfection and the French Crunchy sushi roll was excellent.
Good food, waitress was fantastic!!
Jacky's never disappoints. We love the fact that we can get a 1/4 of Peking Duck (Great for two). Snow mountain roll is one of our favorites. However, this time is seemed about 10% to 15% smaller that previous. However, very good. So many great dishes you need to go back time and time again to try them all! Al is a fantastic host! Makes you feel very, very welcome! Thank you Al!
We had the best server who was attentive and polite. She kept us updated on our food order and our drinks fresh. She made our first visit very memorable!
Quite busy on a Waterfire night. We had a good sized table for two people but were seated right where all the silverware was being sorted so it was quite noisy. Food was beautiful and tasted good but it was nothing to rave about. Service was good but not anything special either.
Enjoyed cocktails and dinner at a window table which I had requested when I made the reservation. Thank you, Jacky’s for honoring my request. We had a great view of the start of WaterFire.
Food was mediocre at best. The chicken in my Pad Thai was miserable quality, so bad that I just ate around it. The actual Pad Thai noodles and flavor were great though, to be fair. Service was some of the worst we’ve experienced. I felt bad for our server, she seemed to have way too many tables and since we were her only outside table, I think she just kept forgetting we existed. She did keep apologizing the few times she came back to the table for forgetting and was very nice, if not flustered - but overall, just made us feel pretty unimportant. The outside seating area was very strange because the beautiful view of the river and city was totally blocked by a super high built-on bar that went all the way around the perimeter of the outdoor deck. Seems like a super strange design decision to make. All in all, probably won’t be back unfortunately.
Our Server Dalton was fantastic!!! He was very kind and Knowledgeable. He was attentive and gave great suggestions.
Peking duck was perfect; superb overall experience for all.
Water Fire made my the night very romantic.
Food is pretty good. Wait staff was GREAT.
The check in is TERRIBLE.
Takes forever to be seated. There are 5-6 young women working at the front desk- no idea what they do. They are confused and have no discernible system for getting you seated.
Even with a reservation you have to wait 10-15 mins to be seated. They tell you that they will text you when your table is ready and they don’t text you.
They forget that you are there and seat people that come in after you do. You have to remind them you are there. Then they then seat you. The text comes AFTER you are already at your table.
It’s so bad that you have to laugh. By the time your seated you are in a pretty bad mood - it really taints the experience at an otherwise cool place. Hurts the rep and the service staff- who is REALLY good- have to make up for it. Not fair to them either. Twice they have commented to me about it as well.
Do better - if not for us then for your service staff.
We had reservations for 745pm but weren’t seated till nearly 815pm and the hostess didn’t seem to care much how late things were running. Nonetheless the restaurant was really nice inside and the food was tasty. The waitress wasn’t overly friendly and tossed the bill down at end of dinner without saying a word, just walked by and left it but I would still go back
Food was great. We started with the walnut shrimp, and got a few sushi rolls. All were fantastic, and artfully made.
Service speed was as expected given that it was very busy on the night of WaterFire, and we were the only ones seated outside originally (by request).
Shortly after we ordered dessert it started down pouring on us. Our waiter helped us inside, and held the last two seats in the whole place at the sushi bar for us to finish our meal.
The extra attention to service is greatly appreciated, and helped to make our night special.
Very good food and great location especially for Waterfire.
The food and the view was great. Went there for lunch and they had a good lunch menu
Open Table requires you to give a star rating to post a review, 1 star is more than this restaurant deserves. The bar area was littered with empty tables in need of busing, the host staff was murmuring to one another that they couldn’t take any more guests yet we were seated in the bar area with menus. After thirty minutes of no acknowledgement - no one coming to our table, a panicked look when the bartender met my eye, no manager in sight - we walked out. At the door, hosts were still attempting to seat walk in guests! If you can’t handle the volume, turn people away. Better to have a reputation for too busy that too inept. We’ll never be back.
We made a last minute reservation here on a WaterFire night so we were expecting it to be busy. Bar service was a little slow and you could tell the wait staff was a little frustrated but they were very apologetic and appreciative of our patience. The food was excellent and we were in no rush so the wait was not a big deal. We'll definitely return.
It took 2.5 hours to complete dinner. 45 min before we ordered, 2 hours before entrees. We were never asked if we wanted a second drink. Food was good, but wait was over the top slow
Overall wonderful excellent!
Great service for a family/Anniversary dknner
We always love dining at Jacky's. The food is consistently fresh, well prepared and delicious.
Menu and flavors were out of this world. We loved it!
We have dined at Jacky's many many times over the years and the food is consistently good. We also have been to Jacky's during Waterfire several times and know to book reservations far in advance - which we did. I also confirmed by phone, text and email no less than 4 times before arriving on Saturday evening with my party. Our reservation was for 8:30 - we immediately checked in and were told they were just cleaning off a couple tables...at 9:00 I rechecked and was told they were waiting for the parties to leave...at 9:30 I was told by another hostess that we were not checked in and at 9:45 we were finally but unapologetically seated. The waiter was rushed and inattentive by the time we finally ate and headed to Waterfire the booths were closing, the entertainment was gone and our visitors from Ecuador basically got to walk along the river for the end of the evening. NOT the experience I planned for them 3 weeks prior when I booked the reservation. I would not recommend anyone doing this on a Waterfire evening.
This was our first visit to Jacky's. We went on a Saturday evening, prior to Waterfire. It was quite crowded and we opted to sit outside despite asking for a table near the window on our reservation. They could not accommodate this request. It took quite some time for our server to come over. She said she would be right back with water. This took about 15 minutes. Drinks took another 15 minutes. Food was delivered and was tasty. The server came back, refilled water and left empty handed while there were empty dishes on the table. we had to ask someone else to remove them. We were seated at 6:30- they were already out of oysters. Positives: cocktails were good; spicy seafood salad was delicious. Enjoyed the tuna dumplings. Seafood egg drop soup also good. Narudo was tasty as well.
Went there for my birthday with friends. They sat us at a private room because we were a big party and the server was very pleasant and fast! Had a great dining experience!
We had a party of 8 that stopped at Jacky’s on the way to a concert. We let them know we had time constraints and they were very accommodating and rushed our order as requested.
The service was great. The food was fantastic. I would recommend Jacky’s for a nice Asian meal.
The appetizers were outstanding; unfortunately my main course was so-so. But, everyone else's main course was very good. We were 4 and got there early; they seated us at a table with a fabulous view of the WaterFire festivities without asking. Just terrific. So, thank you, Jacky's!
We enjoyed Jackie's for a special occasion, my Mother- in Law's birthday. It was her bucket list to view water fire in Providence RI. I made reservations about one month ahead of time. I did have to modified the reservation a week ahead, added a person. I did request a table near the window, but didn't get it. Instead we had a window near the kitchen door. But the food was amazing and the waitress was wonderful. She went out of her way to make Mom's birthday special, with a slice of cheesecake! Overall excellent, I only wish I had the table I requested.
My boyfriend and I love sushi and Jacky’s is usually our first choice when dining out. The Waterplace location is our favorite. We always have great service, and the food is always great. Always fun trying a new roll every time we visit, along with our favorites.
