Had a birthday dinner at the restaurant. Was disappointed as we have allergies in our family. The server was knowledgeable about what could/could not be ordered based on allergies. Unfortunately they fry pecans in the fryer and therefore no fried foods were possible for those family members. Even with this hiccup- the night was enjoyable.
It was Christmas Day and I needed a place to have an early dinner with a friend. It was nearly impossible to find a place that would be open. Luckily, Jackson's was and I was set. This was my first visit but I knew enough people who had eaten here and recommended it. And it was very good. The menu wanders in a few directions with a nod to New Orleans, Italian-American, and all American. I ordered the French onion soup as my starter; strong, beefy, salty, cheesy. It delivered. My friend ordered a special, NY strip steak with 3 shrimp on top (surf and turf) that took a riff on oreganata flavors. She enjoyed the steak, which was no less than 8 ounces. I had a standard dinner selection, rigatoni a la vodka with chicken. It was huge, with shreds of spinach scattered throughout. It was tasty and meant for big eaters or for people like me, who like to take home food for at least two more meals. It's a fun, casual place. We were dressed up a bit since we were invited elsewhere for dessert. But we never felt uncomfortable. I plan to return.
Honored reservation Came a little early and was seated Asked for a table in a quieter area and they accommodated us with out a problem although the only negative about the restaurant is that it is very noisy on a Saturday night Good food and the Pecan crusted chicken is delicious and plentiful
My family & I went for an early dinner. Only a few tables were filled & we were looking forward to a nice meal. I ordered a build your own veggie burger, my daughter ordered a grilled cheese, my son ordered pasta, & my husband ordered a variety meat platter. For an appetizer we ordered the baked pretzel platter along with lobster egg rolls.
The pretzels came out & they were hard as a rock, we could have broke a tooth on them! We told the waiter & he took the plate away yet had the audacity to leave them on the check & expect us to pay for them. My daughter's grilled cheese came out burnt as well as my burger. We will never go back here with so many other options why would we? If Jacksons wants to continue to be in business they need to get a new chef!!
We decided on Jackson's for this fall's Restaurant Week. The menu listed on-line is what intrigued us, with interesting choices for appetizers, entrees, and desserts. They were all enjoyable. Only draw back was the booth area where we sat was rather dimly lit. But the service was great, and the menu choices definitely me our expectations. Would go there again.
Unknowingly we went during restaurant week and even though our waitress was extremely busy she was still attentive and very friendly. I had the blackened mahi tacos and my friend had the fish and chips....we both were very happy with our dishes. They made a good cocktail as well.
We went on a Saturday night for the Prime Rib. After we were seated and sent in our order the waitress came back to tell us they only had one order left. Fine, but when it came it was mostly grizzle and fat. It should never have been served. Another in our party then ordered the strip steak. First one they brought out was all grizzle and he sent it back. The second one they brought out was under cooked (basically raw) and was sent back. By the time the third one came out he did not feel like eating as everyone else was already finished. The mussel appetizer was to fishy and salty so after eating one or two the rest were just left on the dish. Have been here before on a Friday night and everything was perfect. Maybe by 8 on a Saturday everyone is to tired to be bothered. Happy to say we were not charged for the steak and the our waitress and hostess were wonderful.
I have been to Jacksons 2x this week! I'm a local but haven't been back in a long time. Love their menu, food & ambiance. My only complaint is still the noise level.
The menu appeals to everyone's tastes, which is always a priority. The wine selection is decent and the staff couldn't be kinder!
Enjoy the variety of food & have a hard time making a decision on what to order. I have only wonderful experiences with every dish.
Great beer selection and very kid friendly. Loved the gratis chips and dip. My wife ordered the wedge salad with steak and she said the steak was tasty but the grilled vegetables were not grilled enough and thus were hard. I was very disappointed with the lobster roll special, for $29, as it contained a very, very small portion of lobster nuggets that certainly were not fresh. We all enjoyed the excellent fries. Stay with basic pub food and you will be satisfied
We were seated promptly and shown to a table since we had requested "no booth." Had some interesting beers, and then ordered. The burnt sprout leaves appetizer was outstanding -- really outstanding! It was National Fried Chicken Week so I ordered Pearl's Fried Chicken -- a generous portion of delicious and moist fried chicken, but the corn-on-the-cob was flavorless. My companion ordered the broiled seafood platter and couldn't finish it because it was such a big portion. She had the same comment about the corn. No dessert, but we did have coffee. The only criticism I have was that our server was rather sloppily dressed -- much too casual in my opinion. Otherwise, a love this place.
I can't say enough about Jackson's. I wish they were closer to me because I have a hard time choosing what I want each time I go because everything is sooooo good! Amazing food, great staff, awesome chef, wonderful owners! Winning combo! (Feel free to open a location closer to the East End!) Whenever I go back to Commack, it's a no brainier to choose Jackson's! You won't be disappointed, I've never been!
