About Jackson Fillmore Trattoria
Jackson Fillmore Trattoria is a local favorite for a casual, neighborhood meal. Jack has been cooking up great Roman and Southern Italian food at Jackson Fillmore since 1985. We have a small dining room to accomodate reservations for parties of 3 or more and a dining counter for parties of 2 or those who just drop by. Our wine list is primarily Italian, representing all of the great regions in Italy. Our Bombolotti Sugo de Carne, Carpaccio di Zucchini and Tiramisu are legendary. Jackson-Fillmore was great! The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and even comped us a couple of glasses of rosé because our table wasn’t ready at the time of our reservation. It’s a busy restaurant and a great atmosphere so I get why people linger, plus it was a Friday night. This is a criminally underrated restaurant, and a must-see if you’re in the pac heights area
The food is delicious! Top notch! The service and staff also top notch! We just moved to the neighborhood and are happy to find such a great place. This is not a criticism, I understand you have limited space, just thought it may help you. The check in area is unattractive and doesn't reflect how wonderful the restaurant is....sorry! Your pricing for the quality of food is very fair....and in San Francisco not easy to find, so thank you! We will be back!
Used to frequent this place "back in the day" so was so excited to take my new-to-San Francisco daughter there on Sunday night. Place is as popular as ever apparently because the only reservation we could get was for 5:45. When we arrived, we were seated at the counter which was fine. From then on, the experience went downhill. I can only use the word "badgering" for what the waitperson subjected us to. Not a smile, not a welcome, just wanted to know what wine we wanted. And then, she would not let us just enjoy that glass of wine without constantly pushing us to order. (We were there to "dine" not merely to "eat" and she was having none of it.) A request for details on the specials was met with a perfunctory, brusque recitation of ingredients. And then more badgering. It was apparent from the moment we sat down that the goal was to turn over our table for the next customers. We finally (maybe 20 minutes after arrival?) ordered and the food was good but the experience with our waitperson was so uncomfortable that it frankly ruined our evening. Very disappointing for a place that held wonderful memories for me.
My cousin who lived in the neighborhood recommended Jackson Fillmore about a year ago, and we fell in love with its unpretentious, down home cooking with a neighborhood vibe. We lucked out the first couple times we went, randomly showing up around 5:30 pm and snagging a couple seats at the bar. Then, we went a couple more times and got shut out. Twice. Not to be denied, we tried again last week, but first went onto Open Table and made a reservation. We arrived earlier than expected, and were seated right away. The meal was wonderful, as was the service. We had the fried calamari and roasted portobello as starters, and both were delicious. The portobello is served on a bed of greens, so I had it in lieu of a salad. I love the spaghetti carbonara, and my husband is a big fan of the chicken saltimbocca. The tortellini is good, too, but I keep forgetting it is served as a gratin -- still delicious, but just a heads up since this might not be what you are expecting. We've been too stuffed to have dessert, but the selection looks wonderful. We will be back again -- hopefully, soon!
We’ve been going here for years, but not regularly. Last time I dined here was two years ago and it had been a great experience. Last week I took four friends and was embarrassed. The food was so badly prepared :/ the bathroom was filthy, and the service far below par for SF. I won’t be back until new management comes in which is needed ASAP.
This is my favorite place in SF. The food is always perfect, my group is always pleased, I get nothing but compliments, and it is easy on the wallet. Get the zucchini carpaccio, the fried calamari, the stuffed artichoke, and a couple of entrees to share. Don’t miss dessert or wine. This is one of the best restaurants and the best value in town. I come here two or three times a year. Once on every visit at least.

closest to the door on a chilly night. The door was broken so it did not close
On its own. The door had big signs on it saying "please close door" but
most people ignored it. Fix the door! The restroom was terrible too. For such a successful place they can surely afford a few repairs and upgrades
Jackson Fillmore provides just the right amount of authentic rustic Italian cuisine to keep you coming back for more. Great sauces and perfectly cooked meats and poultry. Excellent selection of Italian wines, including some surprise. Very casual and open to large parties.
And it is in a great neighborhood with good public transportation.
I will return.
You cannot say "where is a great place for Italian food in the City?" without bringing up Jackson-Fillmore Trattoria. Great staff, great food, yummy wine, and something to talk about for days. Thank you for, yet again, setting the bar for a great dinner out.
We like the food here, we don't like the long wait for our table, even with a reservation made long in advance, and eventually our food which took forever to be served, even on a rather 'slow' Sunday night dinner. The manager and his assistant didn't t seem to care, never checked on our experience which was a special occasion with six family members present. Charged us for two bottles of wine corkage without even changing the glasses from white to red.
My husband and I go to Jackson Fillmore Trattoria occasionally as it is near where we live. The food is OK, nothing special. I had a pasta dish that was described as mildly creamy. It had cream, but tasted very dry. I left most of it. My husband had another pasta which he liked, it did
not contain cream. It is convenient so we do sometimes go there, but prefer other restaurants.
We have been going here for 20 years but haven’t been there for years. Not much has changed except the greeter and the menu. Oh, and the music which is not needed as there is so much kitchen noise that it competes with that. Not pleasant for a quiet dining experience.
Attitude from waitstaff is basically indifference but competent. I was looking for anything on the menu with marinara sauce and pasta and I could not find it so I went with the gnocchi with truffle oil and a few tomatoes for a rose base. Good but nothing special. Hubby had linguine vongole which he loved. That is his favorite dish. I had a swirl of vanilla, chocolate and pistachio ice cream which was great while he had their house dessert alfresco. All in all somewhat disappointed even though the food was well prepared, just not what I was looking for.
Incredibly poor experience. Arrived 15 min past our reservation. ( although 2 in our party were on time and ordered a drink until we arrived.) Our server, who turned out to be the manager had a very negative attitude from the start. Within 10 minuets of our arrival we were ordering and he refused our request for a chicken dish because he said it takes 35 min to prepare and we could not have the table that long.
Service was rushed and very rude. It made for a very unpleasant dining experience.
We have frequented this wonderful neighborhood restaurant for many years now - perhaps 8-10 times with big groups or just two of us. It's a go-to for our family dinners. And let me be clear, we will go back - but it won't be because of the wonderful service we have typically received over the years, it will be for the simple, but delicious, Italian cuisine.
The food on this latest visit was as good as any other visit. What was wrong here was the service. We were pushed out the door from the moment we arrived. Our main courses literally came down on top of our appetizer plates. When we finished our main courses there were open tables in the restaurant, with no new patrons waiting. When I asked why we were so rushed, we didn't get an apology, rather we were told that this is a small restaurant and that this is the way it is.
To ownership: No matter how long your restaurant is open, there is no excuse for rushed and unpleasant service. And we all know that simply saying: "We apologize for the experience, please come back and see us again so we can make it up to you" is usually all that is needed to correct a situation. Please take this to heart and try not to let it happen again. The experience is what brings people back again and again - good food can be found everywhere in San Francisco.

A friend recommended that my fiancé and I come to Jackson Filmore for dinner. This was our first time to San Francisco and we were looking for great restaurants to have a few date nights on our vacation. The staff was very friendly and accommodating! Their menu options were great, and as a vegetarian, I was able to find a few different options. I would highly recommend! The calamari appetizer was delicious and served differently than I have ever seen before!
We walked in early on a Friday night. There was one other party in the restaurant. We had a reservation and were told we could have one of the two 2-tops. Another party walked in and they sat them right next to us. The waiter then came over to that party first and took their drink order. A busser brought us water and then shortly after that, the waiter came over and asked us if we were ready to order our food. I had to ask him to explain one of the 6 or 7 specials they had on a chalkboard that were in Italian. He just translated the name written on the board to English. No attempt was made to describe the dish. We were never asked if we wanted anything to drink.
I ordered a chicken dish and the husband ordered eggplant Parmesan. My husband asked to order a side of spaghetti or linguine, and was told by the waiter that he could have penne because the penne was cooked. We asked for clarification. Did he mean we couldn’t have spaghetti or linguine even though you have it in the restaurant? “yes” was the answer. The chicken was chewy, and eggplant was nothing special. Overall, service was curt and food was nothing special. Go to Parma or Roma Antica down the hill for Italian in this same price range and much better service. Oh, and on our way out we saw someone sitting at another table with a side of spaghetti in front of them. So strange.

play at ACT, the host offered us a counter seat which we immediately agreed. The counter waiter presented us with an amazingly fresh brochette with the freshest tomatoes and basil
I've tasted all season. I had a gnocchi dish with a creamy tomato white sauce, the gnocchi was
tender and very tasty. My date had a meat ravioli with a traditional red sauce. That was a great selection as well. Our knowledge of Italian wines, are a little limited so the counter waiter let
us try a couple prior to our selection of a Piedmonte vineyard Italian wine. Great place, I would go back
Jackson Fillmore is a very fun and welcoming place to be. Our server was very nice and walk us through different dishes and even provide some great recommendations. The place is welcoming and food is authentic. Quality of the dishes are also really good. We had a seafood dish and they are super fresh and proportion between seafood and pasta is just perfect.
Honestly dont know if they had a bad night but came here with my bf on Sunday night and food was extremely average. They ran out of items on the menu. My linguine was extremely plain. It had no flavor. And my bf's pasta sauce was very watery. Disappointing.
