Jack's Wife Freda - Lafayette Street Ratings and Reviews
We were a large group of 12 and we made a reservation on open-table two weeks prior that was confirmed with an email the day before. However, when we came to the restaurant they said they did not have reservation under my name. I showed them my email confirmation and the wonderful hostess told us that we may have to wait a few minutes but that they could seat use shortly. Within a few minutes she seated us and our waiters took our orders and it was an overall lovely experience. The staff is great and they accommodated our large group with ease. I will tell everyone I know to eat here!
We went to Jack's for my friend's Bachelorette Party brunch on a Friday - we had a reservation for 11 but didn't get seated until 11:30. The host was SO great and accommodating, kept us updated and even had a bottle of champagne on the table to thank us for waiting patiently. All of the food was incredible, and Craig was a fantastic server. One of our guests asked for a glass of ice water and after she finished it, another one appeared without her noticing he dropped it off. So attentive and considerate! We would definitely come here again!
I had heard great things about Jack's Wife Freda so was really excited to try it out. Unfortunately, it seems the rave reviews were very specific to their brunch and NOT to their dinner. Their dinner options were bland at best. I tried to the fish special but the consensus amongst the 18 people that attended the dinner was that the food was "decent." The noise levels were incredibly high and required us to almost shout to be heard. Part of this is the byproduct of the small, quant atmosphere which is really cute. Overall, I would go back to try the brunch but won't ever go back for dinner.
The food at the restaurant was good with very unique dishes. However, our waitress was unbelievably rude to our group and adamantly refused to split our check. I understand if it is the restaurant's policy to not split checks, but it became an issue when she conveyed the message to us in a such a demeaning manner. Definitely not a way to treat customers.
Overall, I didn't think it lived up to the hype. Definitely a cute place. Could see it being very romantic for 2, but with a group of 6 it was way too loud to hear everyone. It's small so between voices of other diners and the music (which I did ask to turn down a bit - and I'm 24, not hard of hearing) it's pretty though to have a conversation. Food was solid but nothing to write home about. Between our 6 entrees, 2 apps and 2 deserts, I would say the only items worth eating again were the cheese appetizer and the sandwich with a fried egg on top. Takeaway: great for Instagram, not great for a memorable experience.
Love love this special SOHO spot. We were in NYC for just a few short days but this was our favorite. You need to get reservations and it is tight, but that is what makes it so much fun. The Peri Peri chicken and fried zucchini were our favorites. Get a glass of the Cote due Rhone with it and just enjoy life and the vibrance of this little treasure!
Jack's Wife Freda is an absolute must. If you can, come with 5 friends so you can make a reservation otherwise plan to wait a while. It's worth the wait though. The food and drinks are fantastic. Perfectly poached eggs & yummy haloumi, delicious duck bacon, tasty watermelon mimosas, great iced coffee. The service was unparalleled; vibrant, friendly, and on-top-of-it.
We came to JWF through an internet recommendation for brunch. We were glad we made a reservation since there were people waiting in line. Staff are very helpful and attentive. Food is quite simple for the price, but nice nevertheless. Notice they charge 20% extra to groups of 6 or more. Nice authentic hip atmosphere.
Went for brunch on a holiday. Place was packed with people waiting for a bit to be seated. So many people walked in to dine but the restaurant is so small that a reservation is really the way to go. People kept coming in and it was snowing outside so everyone in the place was freezing during the meal. Servers were nice. Food was great.
