Jack's Restaurant & Bar - NYC Ratings and Reviews
Some of food awesome, the tapas all good. We were ignored by server to the point of seriously rude although we didn't not complain abou food. The shrimp salad was the worse food I've ever been served. The shrimp way, way over cooked and the dressing was (seriously) just straight soy sauce. Yuk. Fish and chips likely good but hsd been pulled from fryer before batter was fully cooked so that seriously lowered quality.
The service was excellent from the minute we walked in the door. Three members of our party had the chicken pot pie which was absolutely delicious. The best I have ever had. Someone else had the Shepherd's pie which he said was very good and another friend raved about the lobster ravioli. Three of us were visiting from out of town - some of us had been there before - it is reliably an excellent dining experience.
It was a wonderful surprise. The atmosphere and staff made you feel very welcome. They went out of their way to please and satisfy your needs and special requests. (I have food allergies which can be a problem. Nos here. They went out of their way to take care of my needs,) AND IT WAS DELICIOUS! Would definitely recommend it to friends.
I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to dine at Jack's given the NYC restaurant scene - but if in Times Square, and if perhaps seeing a show at the Nederlander Theatre, Jack's is the perfect pre or post dining spot.
Food was quite good, as was the service and ambiance.
ps My friend loved the chicken pot pie, and I enjoyed the steak salad.
After reading all of the positive reviews of this restaurant I was shocked at how bad the food was. The restaurant has a moderate noise level and the atmosphere is fine. The wait staff was nice. However, we had a reservation for Sat night at 7:30 and yet there was no steak left to order!!! Their were six of us and both the appetizers and the entrees weren't hot enough. The butternut squash soup, the mussels and the cod were all luke warm. The only meal that was hot enough was the salmon that is served in a steamer basket. I asked for my lamb chops medium and they were were before rare and also cool. This was a get together with friends I hadn't seen in a long time and so it was even more dissappointing. I could never reccommend this restaurant.
I was very disappointed in the quality of the food. The steak on the steak salad smelled and tasted like ... dog food? The mashed potatoes were tasteless. The butternut squash soup was so spicy (pepper, I think) as to be inedible. I went for a birthday pre-theater lunch and would not go back (except perhaps for fries and a drink at the bar because of theater location). Service was fine, but that really counts for little when the food is so bad.
Jacks was a surprise treat. I went with a small group before theater on a Thursday night. We had the shepherd pie and salads. And different beers. Shepherd pie was wonderful with plenty of ground beef and potatoes and enough veges. It was so tasty, we dug into our friend's leftover half before learning it was her next day's lunch.
Room was quiet and even sitting at a long tables we could hear each other. We were in and out in less than an hour and did not feel rushed.
This restaurant was very good. I would recommend it. The service was excellent. It's a little restaurant with a price fixed menu as well. The chicken pot pie was awesome. We had the mozzarella appetizer and the lobster soup which was delicious.Great for a pre theatre meal. Although it says Jack's restaurant bar and grill, it does not feel like a bar setting. The restaurant is actually quite personal.
Jack's is located in the theatre district and an east walk pre or post theatre dinner. It had a bar area that seemed quite lively around happy hour. The restaurant was clean and dark but nicely appointed. Service was initially slow, but fine once we were initially approached. The meals were excellent and a good value for what you got. Would definitely go there again.
Very pleasant atmosphere. The food and service were excellent. The restaurant is not crowded together. There is plenty of room between tables and not overly noisy, problem in many NYC restaurants. I was very pleasantly surprised with our entire experience at Jack's and plan to return again. Definitely recommend.
I really enjoyed our dinner at Jacks. Our party was made up of 3 women after a theater matinee. The atmosphere is relaxed and homey. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more friendly. We loved our waitress, she was funny, warm, and attentive. We felt right at home. The wine selection was very good, and the food was delicious. The Thai spring rolls were quite tasty and the house salad had a great, sort-of sweet dressing. Rave reviews for the chicken pot pie and the shepherd's pie. My fettucini and shrimp in pesto sauce could have used a bit more fresh basil for taste but overall was a good choice. I wholeheartedly recommend this little gem!
We enjoyed the food and beer selection; wanted to try fish/chips but not available.
Had burger instead which came out cooked perfectly and juicy. My favorite thing was the sweet potato fries, crisp. Lobster ravioli was very creamy with nice lump of meat, only complaint was that there wasn't a couple of more. Enjoyable pre-theater lunch completed by a delicious price of Chocalate Mouse cake.
