Great, fresh food and a fun family dinner.
I've been her once before and it was good. This visit not so much. I forget the name of the dish but it was the seafood bucket with lobster, clams, mussels, shrimp and sausage. The lobster was very tough and not flavorful at all. My wife had the Alaskan king crab legs that were very good. It's just with the name lobster shack I would expect the lobster to be of better quality.
Was told by a couple of friends to go there to grab a bit it was good but had opposite experience when ther with my family on weekend would not go again we sat down waited 1/2 hour for our food to arrive after ordering to long of a wait when you have young children the appetizer was small for price and sandwiches were good but a little overpriced it’s a shame because had heard nice things about this place
My wife and I ordered a crab cake (was cold in the middle), a combo platter and the special lobster, with corn.
Nothing special on the combo, everything really oily and heavy and the lobster was ok.
We spent 75 bucks for a below average food.
We will definitely not coming back.
This wasn't our first visit to Jack's Lobster Shack. It is small - not fancy - typical "in the rough" New England type eatery place with excellent seafood. It's a BYOB which adds to the food and keeps the cost down. Will always consider Jack's Lobster Shack whenever wanting good seafood. Exceptional is their Lobster Bisque soup and their Lobster Rolls. The Lobster Rolls are filled with chunks (not shreded) lobster. They are not cheap - but definitely worth the price for the quality and quantity of lobster in each roll. Only negative - parking is scarce due to it being on a major thoroughfare.
Fresh, flavorful delicious, and clean, service was excellent. Nothing else needs to be said. We loved it!!!
Staff and food are superb. Family atmosphere is a dining joy.
Great seafood selection.outstanding clam chowder and bisque. Good attentive service.
Great lobster rolls and fried oysters, clams etc. made fresh in a fun atmosphere. Clean place with good service.
Excellent wait staff and service!! Good food. It’s definitely on my list of favorite restaurants.
The steam pot was good.
This is a fun, casual spot for well prepared, simple seafood dishes served by a friendly staff.
The Lobster Rolls were just as delicious as my favorite place in Maine.
1 1/2 lb Lobster dinner was Tues night special and included corn on the cob and coleslaw. Delicious! Will definitely be back.
The management and wait staff do a wonderful job of turning over tables. The place is busy and has a great vibe for casual seafood.
Had a 7 pm reservation and had to wait 25 minutes to be seated. Food was very good. Our waiter Billy was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive which is refreshing since the dining room is so busy.
Prices we're reasonable and we will go back.
Ok...so when we first arrived at Jack's, the woman behind the register (not sure if she was management or owner) couldn't find our reservation I made through opentable. Instead of offering to accommodate us, she just insisted that I did not make reservations. So while our party of 5 is standing around just waiting in an awkward tense moment while I have to search the reservation and show her to which her response is "We didn't get an email!" At this point she still does not offer to seat us or to tell us the wait time if we want to stay. We literally had to ask her if ok to wait and how long...it was only a 10 minute wait but OMG..this woman was just so rude! If it wasn't for one of our friends insisting on eating there we would have went to Mithcell's Restaurant down the block. It's a byob place so my friend asked that "same woman" for a cup and it's literally right in front of her in arms reach...she tells him"when she has time, she will get it". I could not believe how rude this woman was, if it wasn't for her it would have been an all around perfect experience. The waitress was extremely pleasant and helpful (maybe they should put her up front so the customers see a friendly face when walking in). The food was DeliciouSss! Prices were fair and there dishes were loaded! The Clam Chowder and Lobster Bisque were Superb! Very rich in seafood. I do recommend this place for its food but now I know next time I go to just call and not use opentable since apparently they are not receiving reservations on their end.
Went there specifically for a lobster roll. It was absolutely delicious! Would like to try Montclair location.
We could not have been happier with our first experience at Jack's. We easily parked on the street (and off-street municipal parking is nearby) and our reservation was by the register and we were seated immediately. The decor is simple and clean, the waiter was low-key but friendly and helpful and the food (2 lobster dinners and 2 seafood platters) was perfect and delicious. I definitely look forward to another visit.
Food was great and the price was very good! It was our first time their and we absolutely will be going back soon.
The food was absolutely 😋 server was great, ambience simple and comfy.
I love ❤️ this place and love to introduce it to family and friends.
Thanks for the lobster platter!
This restaurant is the real deal ... exactly as advertised. Lobsters were superb and expertly prepared. It's small and a little crowded and we had to wait for our reserved table, but the staff was friendly, helpful and efficient.
I had the lobster roll, and it was filled with plenty of lobster meat. My friend had the lobster salad she enjoyed tremendously. The price is moderate for what you get. I would go back to eat again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here, the food and service were both excellent and the fried clams were the best I've ever had. We will definitely be going back and highly recommend to anyone who loves seafood.
Great night out at this BYOB with friends. Food was fresh. Lobster Rolls excellent. Calamari fresh. Chips amazing! Sweet Potato fries a must.
This is a fun place like you are in cape cod . Everything was good across the board, nothing stood out as "wow I have to have this again" but the lobster bisque. The cole slaw was very sweet . Wait staff very friendly and on the move . Parking is a bit of a pain.
Enjoyed fritters and fresh lobsters. Good place to dine though parking can be a challenge. Overall, it was a good choice for Father's Day celebration. Will be back soon.
The seafood was extremely fresh! Everything was delicious! It's not a big place but the atmosphere is warm and friendly. Reservations are a must. Service was a bit slow, but that is my only complaint. Will definitely go back. It's BYOB which is even better!
A little bit of Maine in Edgewater, NJ. We love lobster rolls and my wife and I usually have to travel to CT to get our fill. What a great idea to have a real New England lobster shack in NJ. Great lobster rolls, cold Maine style or Hot Ct style. We chose CT style and they were really stuffed full of claw meat and drenched in butter. Also had clam chowder and Whoopie pie for dessert. Everything was delicious , although a little pricey. We will definitely be back.
Great fresh lobster!!! Everything was delicious. Cannot wait to go back for more!
We really enjoyed our experience. The food was fresh and the service was very accommodating with the large group we had. My whole family enjoyed the food and we will definitely be back.
Jack's was great. Open Table, not so much. The restaurant did not have my reservation when we got there. They checked their computer and could not find the OT reservation. The hostess at Jack's was terrific and managed to seat us after a short wait. But this was the second time a restaurant did not have my OT reservation. I will not be using OT again. I'm going back to the old fashioned method of calling the restaurant myself. When your job is to do one thing and one thing only, and you fail, there goes my business.
My friend and I went to check out this new place in hopes that they not only had great lobster options but soft shell crabs -- and they did! I would have preferred the crabs to be sautéed in garlic and oil instead of breaded, but they were juicy and yummy nonetheless. My friend got the two lobster tails, and between us we also had a Caesar salad to start -- and we were stuffed! Dessert options were also yummy, we split the Mississippi mud pie and barely finished it. We will definitely return.
Amazing hole-in-the wall. I would highly recommend.
Quaint little spot up on River Road .. Casual, no frills ..GREAT food!! Very fresh and cooked to perfection! My husband and I shared the fried shrimp appetizer .. lightly breaded and fried perfectly! Not at all greasy; very tasty! Best we've had since Cape Cod! We both had the Connecticut Style Lobster Rolls; Mine with homemade chips, his with a side salad.. both came with pickles and coleslaw. Connecticut style (for those who don't know) is served hot on the bun with a garlic butter over it (SO yummy!) .. The cold lobster roll with mayo is the Maine Style Roll. It's a BYOB, so I brought wine and my hubs brought beer .. Our wait staff couldn't have been more accommodating .. made suggestions from their menu; brought me a wine glass.. Even gave us a few paper place-mats to bring home for our Grandsons! ... But the thing that super impressed us that night was when we were in our car in the public lot a few feet from the restaurant, and we see our waiter running up to us .. we mistakenly left our credit card at the restaurant, and he went out of his way to get it back to us! Great fresh food AND great customer service = a TRUE winning place!!
Delicious and fun!!!
Looking forward to their new place in Montclair!!!
Read a great review about this restaurant so brought the family there for a special occasion. The food was ok. The soups were great. Fried shrimp appetizer seemed to be pre-made frozen shrimp and was a bit soggy. The restaurant is very small and very loud. Had a reservation but had to wait at least 20 minutes for our table. The gentleman who seated us was very nice; think he's the owner. Lobster rolls were ok; nothing fabulous at all. Pricing is good but I won't be returning, felt like I was eating at a table in a busy deli.
Inexpensive, relatively. No frills decor. Only 12 tables. Always a wait. Reservations recommended
Really great place the food was delicious and not a price gouge. We had two lobster rolls and a fried clams dinner as an appetizer and were out of there under $60.
