Jack's Firehouse Ratings and Reviews
The "Jack's firehouse is situated across the old Eastern prison so one can not says it is scenic but it is historic and a very interesting place. The food was good not as spicy as we would have
Liked but the shrimp were excellent. The service was very friendly and ambiance happy and
Casual. They kept the decor from the firehouse making it eclectic.
It is an old firehouse converted to a bar restaurant ,I have been here before great crab cakes and burgers ! It is across from the penitentiary ,I had dinner outside and in both very nice outside you have a view of the penitentiary it is in the Fairmount section of Philly very nice happening area
Always a treat to go to Jack's Firehouse. Wait Staff are helpful and friendly, Last there on Father's Day with grandchildren 1 and 3 and they accommodated their needs. Beer selection is great and the food is always prepared well, served properly and good presentation.
Service was slow and food was not good, just ok. A group of us ate their and none of us was satisfied with the food that we orders. I orderd the salmon stuffed with crab meat and the best thing about was the sauce they had on the side. Not going there again.
We took some out-of-town friends there for dinner this past weekend. Because of the gloomy, rainy weather, the restaurant wasn't as packed as it usually is, so the noise level was low and we were able to have good conversation during dinner.
As I said, the place wasn't all that busy, but service was a little off that evening. We didn't get the complimentary scones and cherries until we were finished dinner (they're usually the first things put on the table), nor did we get the complimentary sides until two of us were almost finished with our dinners. There was one other thing that bothered us: when one of our party ordered the seitan salad, the server was very pandering and condescending, explaining in detail (without being asked to) what seitan was, as if our friend had no idea what she had ordered. She rolled her eyes after he left the table and asked, "Why does he think I would have ordered the seitan salad if I didn't know what it was?" Perhaps if she had asked what seitan was, before ordering it, his explanation would have been warranted, but my friend made it obvious that she knew what she was ordering.
Other than those little glitches, everything was just fine, as it always is at Jack's. The food, from the salads to soup to steak to crab cakes, was very good. This is why we bring our friends here... although this one friend might think twice about returning.
Jack's would not have been my first pick for a romantic dinner. However, if I was with a large group this would have been the place to go to. Our seating helped out a lot. We were seated outside toward the back in front of a fountain. The noise level was quiet enough to be able to have an intimate conversation. The food was decent and the pricing was standard for the area.
We were celebrating Administrative Professional's Day. There were 4 people in our party. Jack's was highly recommended to us from one of the girl's in our party. She had been there several times before. We all ordered something different, including the mushroom soup, shrimp & crab bisque, salmon burger sandwich, chicken salad sandwich & green salad with chicken on top. We also shared the apple crisp. Everything was excellent, including the service. We even enjoyed the complimentary biscuits & corn muffins. We will definitely go back to try some of the other items on the menu.
I was pleasantly surprised on Valentines Day when I attended the brunch at Jack's Firehouse. We had the best service ever! My mom was in a wheelchair and we could not have been better accommodated. The food was excellent and we asked for a few special orders.
Take a bow Jack's Firehouse. You have exceeded all expectations.
The atmosphere was nice. Loved it in the summer when we were able to take a table outside.
Just did some drinks and snacks then. Thought might be a nice spot for diner. Think again. The food was not good at all. My pork was so over cooked that it tasted like leather. One of the other guests at our table had the strip steak, again too over done. No one sent anything back, as we enjoyed being out for the night with friends. Our server was very good, very friendly, and a pleasure. Wish we could say the same for the food !!
Recently ate here with a small group. Overall the service and atmosphere were very nice. The food was good up until my entree arrived which was a NY strip steak. This particlar cut was terrible. There was over a quarter of the steak I couldn't eat due to the fat. Another person in party had the same problem. The filet came out very nice which my other guest had ordered. No other complaints. Would still go back and give it another go.
We have been to Jacks several times and love it every time. We like sitting outside more than inside. Our waitress was delightful. Parking is tight in the neighborhood, but there is a lot across the street that is very convenient. Mashed sweet potatoes were awesome!
The center of my crab cake sandwich was cold as was the center of my friend's hamburger. We waited a long time for our meal, and it was very hard to get the attention of the waitress, so we just ate the sandwiches. The plate of biscuits and breads served before the meal looked appetizing, but they were disappointing. The biscuits were cold and hard. I can't believe that anyone at the restaurant has tasted the biscuits recently. Next time I go to the museum, I'll find someplace else.
