Jack's Firehouse Ratings and Reviews
This place is unique. It is airy with high ceilings, a good air flow, friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. I ordered the 4 for $40.00 chefs special and my husband ordered the lamb shank medium rare. The Calamari special in a mustard dressing, and the Scallops in a buttery pesto sauce were excellent. I had a sampler of pulled pork in a vinegary sauce (okay), a firehouse rib (excellent) and a slice of smoked brisket (too smoky). My entree was 2 grilled center cut pork chops in a Jack Daniels Sauce - it was inedible, they were severely over salted and dry. My husbands lamb shank was overcooked and very tough. They did offer to make us something else but we declined. We will give this place another chance in case this was an off night.
It was pleasant enough, but honestly just kind of okay. Nothing was bad, but then again it wasn't very memorable either. A bit of a strange "sports bar in the front, white linens in the back" kind of vibe. A bit pricey for what you're getting - particularly the wine list. We had dinner there Friday and ordered a bottle of $35 Blanc de Blanc, and the very next night went to a different restaurant where the very same bottle was $23. The server was working hard, but had a pretty big section all to himself and we went through some long stretches without seeing him. Again, not a terrible experience but doubt I'll be back.
The place was clean and seating was quick. Problem came when booking online, we signed up for a much advertised Father's Day Special...25.00 per person,. This was not the case, waiter explained that it was only for brunch, and our time was for dinner. This was not clear when we reserved. So instead of 200.00, dinner cost 400.00. Never again. Staff was friendly, but the promotion was too misleading to ever go back.
I took my husband here for Fathers's Day Brunch. The food was very good. My husband had the clam chowder, said it was some of the best he's had. I started with the smoked salmon & mixed greens, very tasty. My husband's entree was pan-fried catfish and said it was cooked perfectly, served hot out the pan.It came with herb grits & sauteed spinach.I had the chicken breast w/mushroom sauce that was moist inside and had a nice sear & crunch on the outside. This came with bacon mac & cheese and green beans. The sides for both were ok, nothing spectacular. Desert was triple chocolate cake and apple crisp. We enjoyed both. Our waiter Jim was great. Very informative and also attentive without being overbearing.Nice place, we will be back.
Did their menu come right off the Sysco truck?? Bland, boring, nothing exciting. Hint to restaurant...if you have to use bagged lettuce for your salads, at least refresh it with a dunk in cold water to revive the leaves. Nice patio dining and good service but the food quality wasn't there. Would only go back for drinks.
The service was sooooo slow (again)!!I've been to Jack's before and had slow service but wanted to try again in case they were having just a bad day. Well now I realize that it's just bad service and poor managment.
It took over 20 minutes for my table to get water served to the table after we sat down. Then, the food came out finally and it was not even good. I got a pulled pork sandwich and it was very dry.
I'm never going back there again.
We had a perfect outdoor dining experience at jacks. The food was great ( I had the special buffalo ribeye and my husband the flatiron steak). We were sat right at the door with a beautiful view of the prison and along with the fast service ( we ate in an hour) and delicious food we had a fantastic night in the city. And even after a night of great food and people watching we enjoyed a complimentary fresh baked cookie on the way out. Bravo Jacks! We will be back!
Great ambiance and view of the old Eastern State Penitentiary across the street, well lit up at night. Very good service and food, esp the BBQ. I asked for a table near the front and by the street and got a great table for four with linen tablecloths! Well recommended, especially for meat lovers!
We liked it very much, the food was excellent and the service was great. We were there early (5:15) and chose to sit inside, at the time most of the other guests were choosing to sit out doors. The restaurant has plenty of atmosphere and the waiter was very agreeable when we ask for a bit of history on the building.
Service was terrible at first (no one came to our table for about 15 minutes) but food was good. When we were served the waiter never (!) came to check on us. I have been there for lunch before and it was great in every way. We were there to celebrate Temple graduation for my son and it was unusually disappointing in the service area.
This was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The staff members were incredibly accommodating and pleasant. Our waiter was so knowledgeable and very nice. The restaurant is huge so you don't feel like you are on top of other diners. I didn't have to scream over the table and I was able to cruise through the Chef's Special at my leisure. Speaking of the Chef's Special! Four courses for $40 is a steal. The portions were ample and the food was delectable. You can actually taste the freshness of everything that comes across your palate. Jack's Firehouse has made a life-long friend in me. I will definitely be back for more and more and more. Incredible!
We've been to Jack's on many occasions. This past Saturday was very noisy (a lot of graduation parties) and so the experience was a little different. However, the waitstaff are always pleasant, the food portions are generous and the location is great. I just wish the chef's tasting menu was offered on brunch days!
Took our daughter and her roommate there from Temple to celebrate the end of term. The front of the restaurant was rowdy at the bar, but our table in the back was not bad. Our salads were delicious (enormous portions), and the bread with fresh jam was great. As for entrees, I thought my salmon was somewhat dry, but everyone else in our group raved about their meals. We'll be back.
We had not been in quite a while -
We were very happy we made the choice to try again -
Everything was delightful including our waiter -
The place is very upbeat - great music - you can hang at the bar first if you want -
Food was great - will definitely go back -
You can't beat the chef's special menu and the best part is - they don't tell you what it is -
We had a great time.
Wait service was attentive but kitchen took their time to prepare our meal for four.
Excellent salads and appetizers. Entrees were good. Risotto tasted like ordinary side-dish rice, not creamy enough. Side vegetables of mashed potatoes and broccoli were ordinary...garlic or herbs would have made them special.
Nice biscuits and spread for the table.
Overall, a great time for a casual business dinner. The BBQ Sampler appetizer was a hit with our clients from North Carolina (and everyone else, too)! My only complaint would be that my Filet was overcooked -- I ordered it Medium, but although it was still tender, there was no red at all on the inside. It seemed like Medium Well -- based upon that experience I would order it either Rare or Med. Rare in the future.
The service was prompt & friendly and delivered by competent folks. When asked questions about specific dishes she was knowledgeable and it didn't seem like a bother to answer our questions. The food was great and not the same as you would find in other places.
This was our first time dining here, even though my mom has lived a few blocks away for years. It was for Sunday Brunch, right at opening. Service was quick, friendly and efficient, even though it filled up rather quickly. (I take this as a good sign) The food came out quickly, and was hot and delicious. The portions were more than sufficient. I recommend the Banana Stuffed French toast. I do wish I could remember our server's name so I could compliment her as well.
Nice place, a little on the expensive side for what it is. We sat inside downstairs on a cool, rainy evening. The dim lighting was right for a romantic dinner but the clientele at 7:30PM was a bit too boisterous for that. The front wall opens up, which is probably nice when the weather is good, but that night it made it cold in there and allowed cigarette smoke to waft in. There is an extensive selection of spirits, but only a few house cocktails. Menu selection was good, but there's not much to eat for vegetarians. The lamb was excellent, as was the Mahi-Mahi (not overcooked!). I enjoyed the extras - biscuits with jam and chocolate chip cookies after dinner. I'll return on a special occasion.
This is my 5th time here and will keep returning! We took my boyfriend here, he is from Arkansas and has never been there before. He absolutely enjoyed himself and wants to return as often as possible. I would recommend the $40 be well spent by ordering the chef special, It willl take you on a culinary adventure you will never forget! WE RECOMMEND THIS PLACE HIGHLY!
The food was ok. I liked my appetizer, but was not crazy about my entree and my wife didn't like er soup, but did like her entree.
The atmosphere was fun and different.
It took about 40 minutes from the time we were ready for our check to track down the waiter and to pay. He was frequently in our area, but we still could not get him.
Clever name ... was an old firehouse converted into a restaurant. Service was great and so was the beer! Food was delicious. My husband had steak which was prepared to perfection. I had the trout. Yum. Met friends there and stayed past dinner. I would highly recommend a visit and revisit.
Jack's Fireplace has not changed for the perhaps last 10 years providing same quality service and food. It is always fun for me to sit at the bar and have few drinks with friends and I am sure summer time it would great when they open the side patio.
The pretty lady who served us was very kind. Everything was on time and delivered hot. The wine list is very weak though so go there to have some beer.
The linens and glasses give the impression to an upscale locale but the prices are reasonable and the food is good especially if you are not expecting a gourmet lunch or dinner.
After visiting the flower show with my mother, we went to this restaurant for (9:30reservation)some drinks and apps. We had been wanting to dine here since the summer, and thought it would be a great time to check it out. The food was wonderful- the homemade soup was flavorfull and the apps, especially the brisket that is prepared there was a delight. The woodwork and architecture was so beautiful and unique. We will def be returning in the future.
My fiance' and I had filet. It is by far, the best steak I have ever had. The only thing I was slightly disappointed in, I figured we would see firehouse memorabilia inside the firehouse restaraunt. We are both fire fighter and found the restaraunt online prior to attending a conference.
