The bison burger was mostly filler. The food could have been warmer
Excellent choices of food, ease of reservation and seating, chose to eat at the bar, bartender was very attentive, chose apple salad, lobster Mac and cheese, vegetarian omelet. All was well prepared and tasty
Highly recommend the lobster Mac!
There service was extremely slow and poor. The hot spiked cider we ordered was lukewarm not HOT as it’s name would suggest. It took an extremely long time for our order to arrive, approximately 30 to 40 minutes. This could have been due to the fact that the servers were on a coffee break, considering I saw 2 employees enter with 8 to 12 cups of coffee and the entire waitstaff went to the back...or they were just all nursing a hangover.
I had been a regular patron Jack's for years but avoid it now because there is no accessible bathroom. Sending patrons who cannot handle the steps to a place down the street is just not acceptable in 2019. I enjoyed my recent visit but don't expect to return if I can find an alternative in that area.
Unfortunately, service was terrible. The waitress was apologetic but it took 2.5 hours for us to get our meal. She indicated they had to go to the store to pick up items as someone forgot to order the food!!! They were out of burgers and many other items.
They Really should have offered us a complimentary drink, appetizer or something!!!!
Food was excellent. We starred with the jerk Brussels sprouts and the fried calamari bot was excellent. The St. Louis ribs were very flavorful. Service was excellent.
Excellent menu with some interesting cocktails & seasonal offerings. Service is friendly & helpful.
The Apps were great, we had the Calamari and Brussel sprouts. My lunch was just ok those, I was disappointed by the Catfish Po boy, very thin slice of meat that was a little over done, then placed on thick roll that was falling apart.
Bathrooms were out of order. Other than that, great experience.
The food was ok not spectacular. I’ve been there in the past and it was awesome so I had high expectations. I had the Brussel sprouts and the lobster Mac. The Brussel Sprouts were seasoned well but were underdone. The lobster Mac was good but I think I would have enjoyed it more if it was made with a white cheese rather than yellow. It messed with flavor.
My first visit was 30 years ago. This week I wanted to take my companion somewhere special for his birthday. Wow Jack's was the perfect place! The food was excellant! The best calamari ever! Entrees were perfectly done and delicious! Service was outstanding! We will return very soon!
Always great food and service
Jacks used to be good has since gone down . Other than the great waitress we had food was just ok
On a hot summer Sunday, with the firehouse doors open rather than air-conditioning, this place was unbearably hot and swarming with flies. Our waiter forgot our appetizer, sandwiches and an omelette took forever to come out and the food was just fair. Jack's has been around for a long time in this Fairmount neighborhood, but it is letting the newer, trendier places pass it by.
I have been to Jack's three times and would definitely recommend it to a friend. There are great beers including IPAs on tap. We had fried calamari and pork belly for appetizers and both were great. Two of us ordered crab cake sandwiches which we loved. The neighborhood is so fun and I would recommend Jack's to anyone.
Was in town for concert at MET. Pre-show dinner then walked to the MET. Parking along the street saved me $40.
My meal at Jack's was a business lunch with five participants, four of whom had never been in that part of Philadelphia. They enjoyed the firehouse setting, and they were intrigued at the looming Eastern State Penitentiary (now a tourist attraction) that they saw across the street. Server couldn't have been better -- she left us plenty of time to talk, yet she paced the meal effectively. Food wasn't spectacular, but there was a good selection for people having a working lunch, including one strict vegetarian from India.
I was very excited about having dinner at Jack's Firehouse with friends who are in the fire department. Unfortunately we went there on an evening in July and it so happened to be 95 degrees outside. There is absolutely no air-conditioning in the place. We hardly even ate our dinner because it was so ungodly hot. We had sweat pouring down our faces! I will never go to Jack's again during the summer. I like their food and it is a nice place, but wow, uncomfortable.
Great place, wish it was cooler in there. But I guess it’s hard to cool with the masses doors on front
Jack’s restaurant has character and on warm summer evenings the fire station doors are opened wide for an almost outdoor dining experience. Or if you prefer you can sit further inside restaurant. Menu has southern feel and food is tasty. Loved the complimentary savoury muffins! Staff were very friendly and attentive. Parking on road outside. Would definitely return.
The place is beautiful and has a lot of potential. We had a terrible server who was rude to my family and seemed to openly mock us when we asked about vegetarian options. We should of walked out then and there but we didn't and experienced slow service, overly salty food and an inflated charge on our bill. Very disappointed as I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant for the first time.
Because we were next to the door, it was too hot
A different menu than in previous visits but still delicious. Great crab cakes. Attentive service.
Jack's Firehouse is a neighborhood gem. Open air restaurant was fun with great ambiance, even on a 95 degree day.
Great staff Wonderful cocktails Very good food
The food was over seasoned and required water to eat. The food came out over cooked and cold. I’ve tried this restaurant several years apart and the food is very disappointing.
Good food sat outside and enjoyed the nice weather.
I have brought customers here several times for dinner and we have always enjoyed it. The building and atmosphere is great and the food is very good. The BBQ sampler platter is nice for sharing with the table and the ST Louis ribs are awesome.
In spite of having to change my reservation time three times in 24 hours, we were able to be seated on arrival at a lively front table.
Jack's has always been one of our favorite "go-to" spots, especially when we have out-of-town guests and they want a place that's close to our home and casual. However, twice in a row now, we've been disappointed. The last time, our server forgot to bring us at least 3 or 4 items. This time, the server was wonderful --- friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful --- but he was at the mercy of a chef who took more than 50, yes FIFTY, minutes to get our food out to us. The four of us ordered two burgers, a salad, and ribs, all of which should have been easy to get to us fairly quickly, assuming the ribs had been simmering for hours and the chef didn't have to go find a cow to kill. And yet we waited and waited. The restaurant wasn't busy; there was only one other full table inside.
I wouldn't have been so miffed if we hadn't brought British friends who were staying with us for the month. I was hoping they'd like the place enough to want to make it a weekly "thing," but they thought the long wait for food was ridiculous. So did we.
We will still patronize Jack's, but maybe we'll eat a little something before we go there.
Our server was wonderful! My family went for lunch after my brother's graduation from the Fire Academy & she shared the history of the building, it being the 1st firehouse in the city. She was very attentive & answered all of our menu questions in detail. The only complaint my fam had was that the rolls used for the sandwiches were too thick & slightly hard. The lobster mac & cheese was great.
I've now been here three times and the food hasn't been good during any of the visits. And there were a bunch of flies around the table last time.
I had not been there for years. It was wonderful as always, "I had the Catfish Po Boy, My date had the crab cake sandwich. Both were excellent. A great first date! Thank you Jack's.
The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. The prices are on the high end, especially when we all had a drink or two.
Had a great meal prior to a show at the Met. Mac and cheese was fantastic, Ribs we’re magnificent
I loved the welcoming ambiance and decor. The drinks were a little light but good. The sharing platters offered a variety of choices and were delicious. My particular favorite was the ribs. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Amazing. We tried a variety of dishes including the filet, cornish game hen, and crab cake. All were good. The main disappointment was the salmon which was only meh and overpriced. The cookies at the end were a pleasant and delicious surprise. Overall, I would definitely be back - especially for those ribs.
From the service to the food and drinks, everything was outstanding! The flavors were amazing and everything, including my filet mignon, was cooked to perfection! My husband had St Louis Ribs and said they were the best he's ever had and we travel to bbq events all over! The collard greens were the best I've ever had, don't tell my mother in law! I also suggest the apple crisp for dessert! We will be back many times!!!
Our server was amazing. The food was delicious. The hostess was immensely rude. She chastised is for being 10 minutes late to our reservation and then made it sound like she was doing us a favor of still letting us sit. Mind you, the dining area (front and back) was 60% empty. I’ve never experienced anything like this anywhere. Jacks should evaluate their hostess.
Won’t go back again. Not impressed.
So good! Everything was delicious; drinks, appetizers, dinner, and warm cookies at the end of the meal. Amazing food!
