Such a unique experience with more than 2700 bottles of bourbon and whiskey. Extremely knowledgeable waitress and bar master to help with selections. The food was unique and yummy and the pecan pie was second to none! Even with some in our party who weren’t bourbon drinkers, it was a Wonderful experience!
Great food! Great atmosphere! Scotch eggs were to die for.
Awesome place however uncomfortably warm inside dining room
Better to attend in fall / winter
Enjoyed 2 whiskey flights and dinner before seeing Hamilton at the Kennedy Center nearby. The flights were expertly curated, and the food was delectable! I had the Halibut, which was expertly cooked and was tasty and juicy. My friend had the rabbit ragu that had great texture and was also tasty.
Came here again after the show for cocktails and they were well balanced and delicious! Chris, the whiskey advisor, was great and led us to some tasty choices.
From start to finish this was great experience!! The food was great and the whiskey selection is second to none! The whole vibe of Jack Rose can not be beat.
Dinner was great, drinks were greaf, after dinner drinks were amazing. Putting our names in for Dram and Grain when we sat down made the timing perfect, and Andy was a fantastic bartender, mixologist, and story teller. This was only my second visit, but everything was fantastic and I will definitely be back.
Amazing selection of whiskeys, good food. Must try their whiskey tasting menu - absolutely brilliant for whiskey lovers.
got held up by parade so, seems like a lot of attitude for being a little late. told to hurry up if we wanted to order dinner and never got to look at basement bar. we traveled for 8 hour round trip. food was mediocre. prices outrageous! honestly I like Butcher and The Rye in PITTSBURGH better.
This was my second time, but first with my wife. Her chicken pot pie was good, my lamb was to die for. Dessert was excellent as well, and the brussel sprouts were the best I've ever had. But of course that's not why you're coming here, and Chris Leung, the whiskey advisor was fantastic. He was absolutely on point with his recommendations. We had a fantastic time.
First time here with friends from New York. The whiskey selection was awesome and the food delicious. Everyone was very attentive and knowledgeable. We will come back again to sample other whiskeys.
The food, service and whiskey was impeccable. I travel the world eating at all kinds of restaurants and Jack Rose is a hidden gem. We had an incredible night and look forward to coming back again soon.
Everything I wanted and more. Beyond the INCREDIBLE whisk(e)y selection (2,687 bottles currently -- you read that right), the food was excellent, and the service was one of the best I've experienced in DC -- such a great staff, from host to server to waiter to whisk(e)y sommelier. Go here now!
Food was good (not the best), drinks were very good, ambiance was great but Charles stole the show with his amazing wealth of knowledge!
For whiskey lovers this is heaven. There is not a better collection anywhere! I have come here for my birthday for 4 years in a row and have drank some these most unique scotchs on earth. They always have an expert on hand to ensure you are drinking nothing but the literal best. As if that wasn't enough... the food is exceptional. We will back every time we are in D.C.
I received a gift certificate from some good friends of mine to Jack Rose as a going away gift for my transfer to Washington D.C. As a bourbon fan, I was incredibly excited to try this place out as it had nothing but fantastic reviews. Jack Rose lives up to the hype. Over 2,600 variations of whiskey, great ambiance, food, service, etc., I could go on. I celebrated my first time with a couple of friends and we spent several hours sampling their mixed cocktails as well as a variety of bourbon. Finished the evening with drinks and a couple cigars while watching the hockey game on their rooftop bar. I will definitely be coming back to this place....and soon!
Jack Rose is, first and foremost, a Whisk(e)y Bar, and a good one. There are many, many rare and interesting Scotch Whisky and Bourbon Choices, at many price levels. They have a wonderful and affordable Barrel Pick of Old Weller Antique which is reasonably priced and very tasty. Recommended!
If you like whisky, then this is a MUST! Creative food options, but excellently prepared! The staff are knowledgeable abut the 2700+ bottles of whisky too! Not to mention, they are a Scotch Malt Whisky Society Partner Bar!!!! ENJOY!!!
Love this place! If you like whiskey, you have to go!
I took a colleague and two clients here for dinner. They absolutely loved it. Service was top notch. Huge bar selection. And wonderful food throughout the meal. Definitely get the supper plate, the oysters and the steak dinner. Who knew celery soup was so delicious!
Staff was friendly and accommodating. It was a Sunday night, so not mobbed with people, nice change. Food was delish, but took a while to come out, I think it sat a bit before we got it. Would definitely go back though.
Food was good but it was very loud in the dining room and the serving staff did not have much knowledge of the whiskey they serve (considering that Is what they are famed for).
Had a great time trying different flights of bourbon and whiskey. Each one was assembled custom to our preferences. The food was great too!
Incredible cocktails, very creative and innovative. Intimate experience with bartenders that consult with you about the drinks and help you pick cocktails that fit your flavor profile while also challenging you and expanding your palette. Worth every penny!
Lots of character and unbeatable whiskey list. This has the whole package and one that delivers great value and a lively and entertaining evening
As always, the food and cocktails were outstanding. Given the whiskey selection and the quality of the food for the price, I typically recommend this place. However, the service this time was terrible! The wait staff seemed to be oblivious to the fact that we existed...we had to wave someone down (10minutes after being seated) just to order drinks. Same thing with food and a second round of drinks. We had to request desert menus (a good 20minutes after the last main dish had been cleared). And, all of the food (starters, salad, main) was brought out all at once. I could cut them some slack if it was crowded, but it was Sunday night and only half full and we were seated in the middle of the restaurant.
Loved the authentic atmosphere at Jack Rose. The lamb sliders with onion and tomato were fabulous, the pork belly succulent, the buttery house made biscuits with prosciutto and pimento cheese a soothing comfort food found no where else in DC. Our waiter was extremely well informed and patient and our out of town guests were wowed by the whole experience.
I’ve been to Jack Rose a couple times, really cool to experience all the Whiskeys. What’s been consistent in every visit is it’s always on the weekend (busiest time) and the hope that this will be a great experience - its near my home, its Adams Morgan, and its all about the whiskey. Here’s the rub - whether by design or not, the service is a real let down and the menu is interesting but executed with mediocrity. You’re welcomed by a bouncer/doorman who is not welcoming, and if you aren’t headed for the bar you need to reset your expectations...waiting is the norm at any bar table. 15 mins to get acknowledged and then - adjust your expectations - another 15 mins from whatever time you order your drink of choice. On the other hand, bartenders are very accommodating, but you run the risk of annoying your server if you go direct. So - great idea, but struggling with execution.
The food was excellent while the whiskey selection was phenomenal!
We had an outstanding experience. We had been intending to go here for some time and now that we have, dining there far exceeded our expectations!
Amazing place but not for conversation, very loud. Placed our choices in the hand of our sever with a little guidance. Enjoyed all that he brought and shared some flights. Would like to get back next time in town.
Appreciated the pre-reservation text exchange with the host. Nice that they took the trouble to find out ahead of time if we were celebrating something special. All the food was good, but the oysters were exceptional, and of course the cocktails were top notch. Service was professional and friendly. Really great, fun place to drink and dine.
Good food great booze
We were in DC for a long weekend. I found Jack Roses by searching for the best whiskey house in DC. Reservation are highly recommended as this is a very popular place.
Christian was our server. He was great! - engaging, personable, entertaining, and very knowledgeable of the overwhelming number of whiskeys offered from around the world. We ordered the Ribeye, which was cooked to perfection! Christian was spot on with whiskey recommendations. I ordered one of my whiskeys with one ice cube and was brought a glass of ice cubes and tongs on the side. Very nice and classy presentation.
Will definitely visit again when back in DC.
Food and drinks were great but service was lacking. Lots and lots of staff but didn’t seem like they were very coordinated and it was confusing. We had three different waiters and two bartenders. They didn’t communicate with each other because one would come by asking for our order when someone else already got it, try to take plates when someone else already asked to take them but we were still eating, long stretches with no service.
Took a while for someone to take our drink orders. After we placed a really simple order( beer on tap and a whiskey on the rocks) we thought they forgot about us because it took almost 20 mins to get them. Then had to remind them we asked for ice.
We’ll think about coming back next time but just for drinks.
The food was just ok. But you really visit for the whiskey. The drinks were amazing! The wait staff was a bit slow to round on us. We asked a couple of times, where did she go? Great ambience. Will visit again, but only for drinks.
Arrived around 8:45pm and both bars were busy. The upstairs bar was loud, luckily the balcony was open. Reservation at 9:15. Jack Rose Team celebrated our anniversary with two glasses of champagne and a lovely note from the staff. Ordered the $24 meat and cheese tray. Unique combination of meats, pickled vegetables, olives, kettle corn and nuts. The Pinot Noir and Cabernet paired well with the tray. Commendable , friendly service.
I love Jack Rose -- or at least the concept of Jack Rose -- but I don't love how noisy it is. It wasn't a great place for four friends from four different cities to catch up -- but what was I thinking?! For the right occasion, who wouldn't love the bounty of whiskeys, the good food (truly good, better than you'd expect from a bar), and the fun atmosphere.
Fantastic selection of whisky! Food and service are also excellent! Overall great experience.
AMAZING experience! Loved Jack Rose and will definitely be going back. Annie was a fantastic server~lots of fun and super friendly and attentive. Morgan was extremely helpful/ knowledgeable with whisky choices, fun and friendly. The entire evening was alot of fun. One minor downside was the fact that they were out of a dinner entree option and the menu is select to begin with. However, the atmosphere was great. Not for a quiet evening out, this is a great spot for a fun night with friends experimenting with whisky. A really nice memory with close friends. Can't wait to go back. Loved the rabbit ragu and the Springbank and Hazelburn 12s. Be sure to make reservations for a booth well in advance. Well done!
