The food was excellent while the whiskey selection was phenomenal!
We had an outstanding experience. We had been intending to go here for some time and now that we have, dining there far exceeded our expectations!
Amazing place but not for conversation, very loud. Placed our choices in the hand of our sever with a little guidance. Enjoyed all that he brought and shared some flights. Would like to get back next time in town.
Appreciated the pre-reservation text exchange with the host. Nice that they took the trouble to find out ahead of time if we were celebrating something special. All the food was good, but the oysters were exceptional, and of course the cocktails were top notch. Service was professional and friendly. Really great, fun place to drink and dine.
Good food great booze
We were in DC for a long weekend. I found Jack Roses by searching for the best whiskey house in DC. Reservation are highly recommended as this is a very popular place.
Christian was our server. He was great! - engaging, personable, entertaining, and very knowledgeable of the overwhelming number of whiskeys offered from around the world. We ordered the Ribeye, which was cooked to perfection! Christian was spot on with whiskey recommendations. I ordered one of my whiskeys with one ice cube and was brought a glass of ice cubes and tongs on the side. Very nice and classy presentation.
Will definitely visit again when back in DC.
Food and drinks were great but service was lacking. Lots and lots of staff but didn’t seem like they were very coordinated and it was confusing. We had three different waiters and two bartenders. They didn’t communicate with each other because one would come by asking for our order when someone else already got it, try to take plates when someone else already asked to take them but we were still eating, long stretches with no service.
Took a while for someone to take our drink orders. After we placed a really simple order( beer on tap and a whiskey on the rocks) we thought they forgot about us because it took almost 20 mins to get them. Then had to remind them we asked for ice.
We’ll think about coming back next time but just for drinks.
The food was just ok. But you really visit for the whiskey. The drinks were amazing! The wait staff was a bit slow to round on us. We asked a couple of times, where did she go? Great ambience. Will visit again, but only for drinks.
Arrived around 8:45pm and both bars were busy. The upstairs bar was loud, luckily the balcony was open. Reservation at 9:15. Jack Rose Team celebrated our anniversary with two glasses of champagne and a lovely note from the staff. Ordered the $24 meat and cheese tray. Unique combination of meats, pickled vegetables, olives, kettle corn and nuts. The Pinot Noir and Cabernet paired well with the tray. Commendable , friendly service.
Fantastic selection of whisky! Food and service are also excellent! Overall great experience.
AMAZING experience! Loved Jack Rose and will definitely be going back. Annie was a fantastic server~lots of fun and super friendly and attentive. Morgan was extremely helpful/ knowledgeable with whisky choices, fun and friendly. The entire evening was alot of fun. One minor downside was the fact that they were out of a dinner entree option and the menu is select to begin with. However, the atmosphere was great. Not for a quiet evening out, this is a great spot for a fun night with friends experimenting with whisky. A really nice memory with close friends. Can't wait to go back. Loved the rabbit ragu and the Springbank and Hazelburn 12s. Be sure to make reservations for a booth well in advance. Well done!
Whiskey take center stage at this establishment and the food wasn’t too bad either. Server was very knowledgeable about which whiskey my dining companion might enjoy and overall the service was attentive without feeling rushed.
The food was of good quality and yummy but the menu is very small and eclectic. Tables were obviously filled with whisky lovers!
Very unique dining experience and if you love whisky, this is the place!! I’ll definitely be back sometime soon!!
Thank you for a nice experience. The service was great and I very much appreciated the unbelievable selection of spirits.
Christian the waiter, and Christian the bartender we helpful and attentive. We wanted to do some tastings of hard to find bottles before buying/collecting.
Terrible experience. Do not recommend for food at all. Whiskey not bad, but food and service was awful.
Food was great. Drinks were great. Ambience fantastic.
However staff was the best! From me calling to change my reservation to suggestions on food and beverage to general nice and positive attitudes really makes the place
Such a great outing - from the drinks to the food. I highly recommend trying different drinks from the menu along with the small bites.
Excellent, we were very impressed with the knowledge of our waiter, as well as the time we spent at the dram and grain.
Food was good, drink always good. Server was disinterested almost aloof. Did not present focus nor care. A real surprise and not the norm at all
Outstanding selection of whiskey and awesome service!
If you know your whiskey, this is the place. Rare bottles you ever wanted to try but were unwilling to pay the price for a full bottle, you got the idea. Pricing is rather steep, but this is pretty expected considering the neighborhood. Very noisy, which gets in the way of conversation.
We ordered a bottle of wine. After over 20 minutes and half way through the meal we asked about it. Apparently they do not stock wines and were in the process of identifying it. So, we cancelled it as we would have been through the meal before getting it. No apology - and I wonder why they did not say it will take time.
Jack Rose is a special spot in DC, especially for whiskey lovers or aficionados of classic 20s American culture.
The atmosphere was aesthetically pleasing and the hostess on the telephone was friendly and helpful.
Amazing whiskey selection and very knowledgeable bar tenders. Whiskey service was 5+stars. The food paired well with the whiskeys but was a little slower to come out. Will definitely be back for more food and whiskey.
The meal started out with high expectations with over 2800 whiskeys and a promise of ribeye steak. Well the first three whiskeys we selected were out. We should have been concerned when the waitress described the ribeye simply as “ a juicy piece of meat”. The ribeye was not a ribeye, upon our comment, initially the manager said it was cut in half for presentation. However how can you have two pieces of meat with different thickness, doneness and appearance? Also, not juicy. The taste and texture were inconsistent with ribeye, maybe a sirloin or hanger but not ribeye. Call back the manager who at that point admitted the chef wasn’t happy with the rib eyes cut so created a palate of some other cuts. She said at that point she could bring out a ribeye. Out came a ribeye very thin, but s ribeye. But not $49 ribeye. Overall the experience was one of the most disappointing and reflecting inferior service and kitchen staffs
You go to this place for the Whiskey - it has about a zillion kinds and an "adviser" - but the food was remarkably good as well - very rich - and for desert they had the best beignets I'd had since Cafe du Monde - maybe better.
This is a bar/restaurant that has, literally, the biggest and best selections of whiskey on the East Coast. The whiskey experts can walk you through anything you desire. If you love bourban, single malts, rye of anykind, this is a must go to place. Food is decent but not why you go there.
Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the assortment of whiskeys, which was enormous and generally impressive. However, it took her between 30-40 minutes to circle back to ask us if we wanted any more drinks. You practically had to tackle her to get her to acknowledge you. The chicken skins were pretty terrible and I would not order them again, but the rabbit ragout was okay and so was the steak that my boyfriend ordered. Generally, the food is over-priced, and we ended up going across the street for a second dinner.
We went here because my husband loves bourbon. This is the place to go - I think there were over 700 choices - a bit overwhelming. He got a bourbon flight that was all exclusive bourbons to the restaurant. I has a tequila drink that was wonderful. We shared small plates and that was plenty for dinner. We especially liked the lamb sliders.
Did expect the whiskey selections and experience to be good but the food went beyond expectations. Really impressed.
The service was top notch. My boyfriend was asked about his favorite bourbons and then they made a custom flight for him. The whiskey expert even came over to follow up. I enjoyed wine and all the delicious food. The hush puppies were so moist and the pot pie’s crust was delicious. The absolute best was a tie between the burrata and the oysters. Good mix of southern comfort food and twists on popular dishes from other countries. It is pricey but worth it for a special occasion or fancy night out. You could also just do drinks and small plates/apps to keep the cost down. I will be telling everyone about this place!
Amazing selection of whiskey in a fun setting. Bar staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Had the Scotch Egg which was interesting! Fries need some help, they were limp and not very hot. Fried oysters very good!
The service here was great at every level. They went out of their way from the minute we walked in to make our time there enjoyable -- even on a busy and hectic night. We were impressed.
I’ve been wanting to try this place for awhile and was happy that a bourbon lover friend was retiring. There was no better spot to celebrate than here with 2700 bottles of bourbon and whiskey
This place has every sort of whisky and bourbon imaginable. Try the flights, if you're not sure where to start. Don't be scared to ask questions, there are people there to help find a drink you'll like.
The server we had was extremely knowledgeable about whiskey. She helped us pick out what we may like and provided good alternatives if they didn’t have something. The food was great, atmosphere was great, and would definitely recommend to those in and traveling to DC.
The whiskey selection is astounding and the staff takes obvious pride in serving such a fine selection. The Dram and Grain below is a gem, and one we will be coming back for often.
