Jack Dusty Coastal Cuisine and Crafted Cocktails
Party of 5 for lunch - not many patrons when we first entered - waiter was bit odd in mannerism and service - salt was all over table we had to ask him to clean. He also seem to have hard of hearing. Food was ok - my lobster roll had limited lobster and the pasta for $12 was less than 4 oz - burger very good as were fries
Not too impressed with lunch service food nor price
Menu was disappointing
Was very excited to go to Jack Dusty—at the Ritz! Then I arrived—first to find cars parked in the inner and outer lanes of the drop-off point; second to discover the restaurant was off the lobby and the swimming pool like a conference hotel dining room. While I expected a Ritz experience, I found myself at a pool and country club bar, where people came dressed in shorts and offensive t-shirts and the few table that existed inside were in two very noisy rooms looking out of dirty windows at the tables by the pool. The food was awful—a salad so drenched in dressing, I sent it back! Though the restaurant was not overbooked, the service staff continuously came to the table to remove our plates—even if one or both of us was still eating! Yet, the staff never refilled our water or iced tea glasses. While I was hoping to find a luxurious restaurant for special occasions and to impress visitors, I found a place to which I will not return in my home town!
I would not recommend Jack Dusty. It was NOT the quality experience that I would expect from Ritz-Carlton. The food was pathetic. The ambience was horrific with loud, obnoxious music! I love kids, but there was a play area next to romantic dining and several screaming children ruined the ambience. We were seated against a wall, when other tables were open with views of what little water view is available. The prices are outrageous for the quality of food. I don’t mind a $25 cocktail - IF it is good!!!
This dining experience was very poor. The food was not up to scratch. The entire family was sick after it. The kitchen was obviously extremely dirty and not up to the typical standards of the Ritz Carlton. A complete disappointment
Food was very good as well as service. Our seat was a little awkwardly positioned.
Staying at the Ritz and had breakfast twice which was great, however, booked dinner for four and not impressed. Arrived early so we could have a drink in the bar, service poor-too busy standing talking to each other to notice we had finished our drinks and my husband had to go over in the end to get the server to take our order. Seemed reluctant to seat us on the patio which I had specifically requested and said there was only the end table-fine by us-yet at least two other empty tables which were never used and when we left most were vacant. Service chaotic and our waitress seemed more keen on getting us out if there, presented the bill before we had chance to look at deserts or order coffee. Food ok-steak was good but the accompaniments were poor as though they had been sitting on the passe for a while. Expected more, and found much better service and value in many if the other local restaurants.
2nd time there - food is terrific and customer service is over the top! Nice ambience; can be a little on the noisy side if there are large parties
We came for their Savor Sarasota menu to try out a new restaurant. The food was very good and the service excellent. The hotel does keep the temperature cool so a sweater might be a good idea to bring along. It was a little chilly for us. Overall we had a positive experience. If you're looking for a restaurant with good food and a staff that treats you like royalty this is the place. Parking is valet only but the restaurant validates your parking.
Went with my wife on our anniversary. Good over all experience. Excellent food, worthy service. I would enjoy diniing here even if not using the hotel.
The view is beautiful and the service top notch. They have gluten free bread and are super accommodating to allergies!
Three couples had dinner here on a Saturday evening. The place was full. We sat on the outdoor patio and even though there was a light rain falling, it did not disturb us. I have a favorite dish: the butternut squash risotto. I order it every time. Everyone enjoyed their meals. It's a fun place to get together with friends. Although the crafted cocktails are expensive, my husband and I always order one to try and have not been disappointed.
Ritz Carlton Quality for a Real Value.
Don't let the Ritz brand scare you off, this upscale casual waterfront spot delivers a great overall experience. It' not cheap, its appropriately priced for top quality seafood and cocktails at a luxury hotel. Comfortable and welcoming. Try the smoked fish dip and the fried whole snapper.
Wonderful place for view, service, prompt attention and good oysters!
Great lunch; great service; very relaxing!
The service and cocktails were excellent, but we all agreed that we’d had better meals elsewhere. The food was good but not great. I’d recommend the bar/lounge to others, but for a nice meal I’d go elsewhere. A self-park option for the hotel would be nice. You can end up waiting for some time for your car if it’s a busy night.
Steak was full of fat. Fish was nothing more then average. The crab on the fried tomato was really good. The service and staff were very friendly. I hope it was just a bad day!
I Expected 5 star service for 5 star prices and that did not happen. Food selection and pairings did not fit the protein. The elements of the dish were prepared well, but they did not complement each other. Wine list did not have vintage (year) except for the “special” list, and prices were excessive. Furniture and seating configuration puts casual happy hour patrons with dinner diners that generate “celebratory” volume that is not conducive to respectable conversation. I will not consider this place for quality dining, but it is a place to mingle and find that one night stand for the yuppie crowd.
elegant atmosphere coupled with excellent cuisine. a real gem.
Service was wonderful and food delicious
We went because other reviews said the ambiance was fun and the views really great. They didn’t disappoint! Service was great, people watching(Kentucky derby day) great, sunset and views great! Our server even encouraged us to run out to the veranda for better sunset views and we’re so glad we did!
Unfortunately, the food was just regular. Same for the drinks. If you’re coming in for a great meal, meaning food is the priority, this probably isn’t it. We ordered: shishito peppers - good but not the best I’ve had, pimiento cheese dip - very good needed more bread which was easy to get, beet salad - our groups favorite part, pork chop - good but a little over cooked while the Brussels sprouts were under, the fish en pappiotte - not something I’d reorder.
Overall, I think you’d be really glad you came for happy hour or after dinner drinks.
Inside the Ritz Carlton is a nice way to enter this restaurant. Patio dining on the marina lends a certain ambiance. The triple tail fresh catch I had was exquisite. Also, breakfast on the patio here is a treat for the senses. Also try Ridley's Porch at the Beach Club.
The food is always great! The lunch lobster roll is my favorite thing on the menu but you can still get it at dinner if you ask. Our server Alain was great too. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
We've dined at Jack Dusty's a couple of times before and it continues to be one of our favorite restaurants in downtown Sarasota! The drinks and food are excellent! We sat outside and the weather was perfect for "al fresco" dining. We look forward to next time!
Lovely evening on the terrace as we watched to sun set. Great service and food.
Anniversary dinner, second time there and always excellent service, food and ambiance!!!!
Basically an upscale bar scene with better than average food. Good cocktails. Nice views if you sit outside.
I had a grilled two pound lobster. Not on the menu but available. It was fantastic. Service is always Ritz quality and the sunset view can't be beat.
Everything was great, food and service superb. We probably should have asked for a table on the Verandah or in the first section you come to as you enter the restaurant.
Unfortunately there must have been a bachelor party going on the night we were there. The bar was very noisey and then the group moved to the back room, behind where we were sitting. One guy had an extremely loud voice and laugh and he alone managed to make our experience very uncomfortable. At least three other tables moved themselves outside to avoid the noise. We asked the manager to close the doors. He did. That helped a little. Later the manager went inside and asked them to tone it down a bit. They did. The last part of our dining experience was very nice the first 3/4 was a nightmare!
We dined here with friends, pre-theatre. Our waitress managed our time perfectly and served each course hot and delicious. We collectively ordered seafood, shellfish, pork and vegetarian entrees and all four were great.
Seafood platter was expensive & very disappointing. It used to be excellent!
BIrthday and anniversary. Evening was terrific and even included a perfect sunset!
Always a great experience having drinks and dining here! Jennifer and Ashley did a great job.
Great service and food selection. The Bread was very tasty and unique. The fish was very fresh.
Food was great. Ambiance was perfect. Your staff starting with Dean in the valet area to Jen our waitress was excellent and provide the real “Ritz Experience”
My wife and I had dinner at Jack Dusty in the Sarasota Ritz Carlton on Saturday, April 21, 2018. This without a doubt was one of the worst dining experiences of our lives. We had stayed at the Ritz as guests multiple times over the last three years while building our home in Sarasota. We had breakfast and lunch at Jack Dusty multiple times, but never dinner.
When we arrived, there was a tremendous line of cars waiting for valet parking. Once inside the lobby, we found out that there was a extremely large charity event taking place on the back lawn that night. Instead of herding the throng of people to the outdoor event, the staff allowed people to congregate in the restaurant/ bar area, which made it virtually impossible to maneuver to the hostess desk or even hear a spoken word.
Once we were able to finally get to the hostess we were seated virtually five feet away from the hostess desk amongst all the chaos. The other issue with the design of this restaurant is the fact that the dining tables are intermingled with casual seating for bar patrons. There were several groups of drunk patrons apparently waiting to go to the charity event sitting in and amongst dinner patrons. These folks were extremely loud and boisterous which completely ruined the evening for us. Even after the charity event started, there was a constant mingling of people who were not there to have dinner, but simply drink.
We could not wait to get out of there. Our waitress, Helen, was as kind as she could be, apologized over and over, even though it was difficult to hear what she was saying due to all the noise for the terrible situation.
We will never go back to Jack Dusty. Even without the charity event, the manner in which they have there dining tables intermingled with casual relaxed couches for bar patrons is a bad idea.
I am a huge fan of Ritz Carlton properties, but this one is just bad.
Superb as always
Lot of restaurants in the area but Jack Dusty’s is special and the baked in the can bread is fun and delicious.
One of our favorites.
Food and service were outstanding. One of the best restaurants in Sarasota.
