Jack Astor's - Kingston
Our mission? Great people helping other great people totally have a blast while enjoying amazing food. Wow, that was a mouthful. But can you blame us? We’re a restaurant. One that specializes in delicious food and great times. Our goal is to make you laugh. And depending on your hot sauce tolerance, cry.
In all seriousness, we take real pride in our food. Try our Cluckin’ Fresh Chicken Fingers, made and seasoned with fresh, never frozen chicken tenders. This isn’t run-of-the-mill pub grub.
But outside of the kitchen, we find it hard to take ourselves seriously. We have an Elvis booth. For no particular reason. Folks, that really does say it all. We’re sports fanatics, music nuts and love a good joke. If you’re into at least one of those things, we should hang out.
Decor was nice. Service was slow, and so-so. Food was overpriced snd underwhelming.
My husband and I had fajitas for two, they were excellent and more than enough for both to enjoy.
The food was terrible. Chicken tenders were rubbery and cold. Shrimp pasta the shrimp was over cooked . The sesame chicken the chicken tasted like frozen chicken bites. I would not recommend this to anyone
Way to expensive. It would not be my first recommendation to people. For the price better food is available.
Overall good experiance however disappointed in the lack of garlic pan cheese bread. Also the wings I got didn’t have as much sauce as they have in previous visits which was also disappointing for me personally
We had reservations for 630 pm and got our table on time. Ordered our food (4 people) at 645pm and received it at 750 pm. the waitress was aware that we had a show to be at for 8 pm. She was very annoyed herself but was unable to speed up the kitchen.
The restaurant seemed more interested in seating and feeding walk-ins then those of us that had made reservations ahead of time.
I have no plans on ever returning to Jack Astor’s
Had a reservation for 6:15 on a Thursday night to have dinner before attending a concert. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated right away. We ordered a drink and water each. Decided on what to eat and ordered at 6:35. Two other tables came in after us, a party of 8 and a party of 4. We noticed that appetizers came out for the larger party around 7, we still had no dinner. We flagged our server down at 7:15 to ask where our meal was. At this point, our drinks were empty, with 1/2 glass of water each. She went to check and returned 10 minutes later to say that the manager was apologetic and that they would take care of our meal. I said that's nice, but where is our order? The server said it wouldn't be much longer. We watched all the tables around us get their food, eat, and one table had left before our order came out. Our order arrived at our table at 7:45, cold. I ordered a cheeseburger that came with a side of fries. The bun was dried out, the burger was cold, the fries were dried out and cold. My companion order fajitas. There was so much grease in the fajitas, you could touch the cast iron pan and it was lukewarm. We ate as quick as we could, now with no drinks of any kind. Our server came by and stood at a table beside us and asked if everything was ok, to which we told her everything was cold. She walked away. We sat waiting until 8:05 when we asked another server for our bill. She apologized and went and found our server. We said we felt we shouldn't have to pay for anything, but she said we did need to pay for our one drink each ($13.13 each). We were so furious that we paid and left. This was my first dining experience at Jack Astor's and will be my last.
The server was less than enthusiastic at the beginning of our visit, though she warmed up as the night went on. We were informed by her that Sundays is not a great night to visit as they are often out of many items on the menu or ingredients. For example, they did not have any avocados at our visit so no guacamole. I ordered a glass of white wine and it took 25 minutes for the server to finally tell me the wine was warm and she suggested I order something else to drink, which I still had to pay for.
They’d run out of both lettuce - hence none of the salads were available - and shrimp. Too many flies and dirty tables everywhere! Cocktails were nice though.
Your volume for your Music/TV's is way too loud for the older crowd . Unless you want to cater just to the younger crowd who loves to spend money . My wife and I checked out your Roof Top and the placed was y filled with much younger people ... That must be most of your Cliental plus they have extra money to spend . We will be back to Jack Astor's but please turn the volume down . If you do respond please do not make it sound like a boring hollow corporate response
Em (our waitress) made a great experience out of our visit, food was great with a lovely ambience and awesome service
We were there on the Sunday night of the long week end. I expected it to be busy. But there was definitely not enough staff on duty to properly accommodate the guests on hand. Little attention paid to us.....a lot of waiting to be looked after....there was a key ingredient missing from one of our plates. By the time our server did a check back, our meals were almost done. She offered to bring the missing avocado, but what were we going to do with it then? Meal was almost over. A discount or a complimentary dessert would have been appropriate.
Service was fantastic! Adult meals were great, kids meals were just meh. Overall, great place.
One of the best place in Kingston...
Great time on the rooftop with good food and service to finish off the night. The Meso sesame tuna bowl was a hit (for a light dinner) as was the Mexican salad bowl (which can feed 2 people). A good selection of fun night-out drinks including wine, cocktail, and beers. Would go again and would recommend to others passing through.
Food was great! Love the wings. Service wasn’t great...lots of young kids. Music was loud and not very good. Incredible rooftop patio and great view.
It was great! Service was fast and friendly!
Everything was good except that the soup I had ordered was sold out. I have recently had surgery and that was one of the few options on the menu that I was able to eat. I had some Caesar salad as well, but I think may have been capers in it and wasn't a fan. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their food and service was good
We were attending a show downtown. Reservations for 5:30 and still had no food at 7:10. Left without eating or would have missed the show. Handled very poorly by all involved. Will never go back.
We had a dinner reservation for 5 people at 4:30p July 5th & were directed to the patio - which we'd requested. Long story, one of us finally talked to the patio manager - we moved THREE times when there was plenty of alternate seating options available BEFORE we were seated the first time. The staff were not giving us consistent answers - NO, we can only seat FOUR/table but as we observed a minute later, there were FIVE seated at a table. Our final table move came just as our food arrived - more shuffling around. Two at our table had never been to Jack Astor's previously & we'd raved about the food and ambiance prior to arriving. Not a great dinner experience for any of us.
The "misting" affect great idea but it sure wasn't landing on or near anything on the patio.
Enjoyed our evening with friends. We were tucked in a cozy corner so noise level wasn't too bad but generally restaurant was too noisy. Otherwise everything was great-server/ good/wait time etc.
We specifically reserved the patio overlooking the water and didn’t find out until arrival that you don’t take reservations for the patio and we couldn’t get water view - very disappointing.
This is the best Jack Astor’s I’ve ever been to...made reservations throughout open table for 6:15 on Wednesday June 20 2018 had no clue about ROOF TOP PATIO... we arrived at 6:10 was greeted by a young lady that asked my name..told her my name and that we had reservations for 6:15 ...she said I can seat u right now or wait 20 minutes for patio ... I’m like where’s the patio I just walked up and didn’t see a patio? She says it’s up the elevator to the roof !!! I’m like We’ll wait at the bar and have a delightful SANGRIA and wait !!! 15 minutes later received a txt table is ready... Wow what a great choice we had free chicken sliders free samples of beer fantastic live music and the service was fantastic!!! What a pleasant surprise the roof top patio was food was on point as at any Jack Astor’s... the ATMOSPHERE here was the best I’ve experienced can’t wait to return on another hot summer day!!! Highly recommend spending a Sunny summer afternoon dinner here !!
I love the place, but from my latest experience I must admit that the live music was a bot too loud; and the food I ordered, although delicious, was considerably cold.
Had a 5pm reservation. It was basically an empty restaurant when we arrived(and left). Made the reservation because it was Father’s Day and we had 6 people. We were stuffed in a corner, no view of a tv or anything. In and out quickly would have likely lingered with some drinks but lack of atmosphere in literally what felt like the Harry Potter closet drove us out quickly.
Just need a little more shade and maybe turn the music down just a tad for Sunday lunch. Otherwise, lovely and great view!
Terrible. Waited 25 min before server came to get drink order/first visit to table. Another 20 min for drinks to arrive. Ordered appetizers and after 40 min of waiting and no food we left as had a show to catch at K-rock centre which we had told our server when we ordered food.
Will not be back as is same view of others in party and have shared this terrible experience with many friends already. I have worked in service industry and never in my days as a server or guest have I experienced such unacceptable service.
We recently celebrated a special occasion here and it was awful! They seemed to run out of everything and they were very unorganized. Also it took forever to get drinks
Great service. Great views
We had 2 wheelchairs and had a nice quiet spot on second floor. It was a bit tight for 2 wheelchairs but it was fun for my parents. We love the roof top but the high tables dont work for the wheelchairs
We dined at 7:30 PM. Great time to go. The meal and service was great. The place was crazy busy when we arrived and we were warned our meals would be delayed 35-40 minutes. However the 4 of us were there to dine not to eat and run. Our server Katie was attentive and friendly. 3 out of 4 had the The Smiling Budda. It was delicious and a large serving, we would all recommend it and order it again. Comos are tasty and a good portion. The music on the roof top patio was very good. Hometown Music festival. Great view up there too. It was a great evening. Patio was not that crowded although bring a sweater.
My friend and I needed a healthy evening meal pre-10km run in the morning. I had the Smokin' Salmon and she had the breast of chicken. The server substituted out the rice for extra vegetables and avocado. Nice glass of red wine, beautiful view. A bit cool as the sun went down. Heaters along the perimeter would be nice in addition to the ones at the bar. The stools seem a bit too big for people to move freely about getting in and out of their seats. Having said that, that won't stop us from returning. Food was EXCELLENT.
Reservation for 5:30 no appetizer until 7:20 we were told the kitchen was busy but they kept shoveling more people in, we left very disappointed and will not recommend this place to anyone. We also drove an hour each way to get there, seems like greed was the reason for this problem especially when we booked a reservation.
Have already sent my dissappointed review on the jack astors website.
Booked a reservation a week before requesting a high chair and called to confirm. When we got there the gave us a table without a high chair. Went to give us a booth next, i asked for a high chair, they said they couldnt put a high chair at a booth. Then WHY offer a booth🤦🏽♀️
Our waiter Nolan was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional- our meal was excellent- ( pad Thai, and burger and fries)
Had dinner with my kids before a show at the K-Rock Centre, had a great time!
We were promptly seated and also our waitress greeted us very quickly.
Both we very pleasant
Our food and drinks arrived in a timely manner
I also asked for a glass of water that did not arrive
Perhaps serving water or at least asking if guest want water would be a nice touch.
Overall happy with our visit
We were eating out to celebrate two family birthdays. When we sat down, I mentioned to the server why we were there. Not that I expected any kind of fanfare, but some small recognition would have been nice. We got no recognition whatsoever. My classic burger came with cheese by mistake, which wasn't a big deal, but my step-daughter's gluten free salad came with croutons and had to be sent back. The only gluten free dessert was ice cream, and a very modest sized bowl of ice cream with sauce came with a $5.50 price tag (3 a la mode scoops at $1.50 each plus another $1.00 for the sauce). Pretty steep, we thought, especially since it was the birthday girl's dessert. The pop at over $4.00 per drink also seemed pretty expensive. The server was not overly attentive but okay. The food was fine, but overall, I was pretty disappointed in the experience and the value and don't think we'll be visiting again soon. This has been a go-to place for many years so this is kind of disappointing for us.
Ambiance and service were hood but food was not at the Jack astor's standard. Plates were half empty and food very average
Service was not ideal our waitress seemed more interested in big tables so walked by us several times and took a very long time to respond to our needs. Did not have the appetizers we wanted which was very disappointing
