Jack Astor's - Halifax (Bayers Lake)
In all seriousness, we take real pride in our food. Try our Cluckin’ Fresh Chicken Fingers, made and seasoned with fresh, never frozen chicken tenders. This isn’t run-of-the-mill pub grub. Our Band of Chefs are influenced by a wide variety of tastes and have travelled across the globe to gain inspiration.
But outside of the kitchen, we find it hard to take ourselves seriously. We have an Elvis booth. For no particular reason. Folks, that really does say it all. We’re sports fanatics, music nuts and love a good joke. If you’re into at least one of those things, we should hang out.
Great food but the menu diminishes every visit. Many of my favourites are gone.
We were disappointed to be asked to leave before the end of the raptors game. We recognize that the bar closes early on sundays, but the Jack Astor’s social media said the games would playing at all Jacks locations, so we anticipated being able to watch the whole game
Everything was great. Super friendly staff.
So yummy! Oh my... best burger ever in the Holy Smoke BBQ burger! And the Buddha bowl.... oh my! Great food, great service... thanks so much!
It was great
Had a great dinner but because we were seated near door and it was a cold outside it was a little uncomfortable
Brad (a waitor in training) gave outstanding service! Great job!
Excellent restaurant great people great seating Overall excellent
Waitress was excellent. Tv at table showing rodents (not appealing in a restaurant). But mainly the menu choices are too few.
Consistently an great place for casual dining. The staff at this location are exceptional.
Amazing staff moved our group of 40 in and out with ease.
Had a dinner with some family from out of town (group of 8). As usual, excellent service, food and atmosphere!
AOK, family of 6, two children 6 and 3. Kids did not like their pasta with tomatoe sauce. Crayons, etc. were fun for them. Table located in the aisle, busy with traffic back and forth. Salmon was fine, fish and chips OK, chicken bowl, good, nachos fine. Overall just AOK. Probably choose something else next time out. Waitress very busy; however, managed to get her job done, very friendly.
The food was great but not a fan of the high tables and chairs
There were 7 people in our party and none of us liked the food. It was very overpriced. I couldn't believe they served frozen fries and charged so much money. I do not go to many fast-food restaurants but the fries were better at those than here. I had a shrimp dish which wasn't too bad, but the shrimp were overcooked. There should have been a roll or garlic bread served with it for the price. It was a birthday celebration and the server brought the cake out when the table was not even cleared of all the dirty dishes. Then we had to wait forever to get our bills. Overall none of us will be returning.
Had a great night. With a family of 7 there was lots of noise at our table!! The apps were delicious
We had a busy weekend with kids at a dance competition. There was something that everyone enjoyed. My little girl was beyond happy that there was steak on the kids menu!! We will be back anytime we are in Halifax.
I would really like it if there was a menu for those who have different holidays because my cousins and I could not have dairy or meat and the menu consisted of many meats and very few options for us.
Excellent as always. Food was great. Best nachos in the city.
Our server was very condescending . We had a party of ten. Six arrived first and then the other four. My husband moved so that his parents could sit together and our waiter scolded him. Saying rude things in a 'nice' voice is very passive aggressive. Perhaps she was new, perhaps she was overwhelmed by a table of ten, it's difficult to say. She didn't always acknowledge when I spoke to her and then blamed us when she made mistakes (ex. my mother in law did not get her drink and the waiter's response was that she must have been late getting there - which she wasn't). We asked for three straws and had to listen to a rant about the environment and then she threw seven straws on the table. My sister had to wait more than five minutes for change - the waiter was obviously put out that someone would use cash. I could list numerous more examples but I think these are sufficient. It was my husband's and daughter's birthday lunch and our server was very rude. The only reason I left a tip (although small) at all was because I didn't know if your restaurant shares tips and I didn't want others penalized for her rudeness.
The food was good, but I would never return and never recommend your restaurant because of this server.
The online booking system is super convenient. Jack Astors always great service and excellent food!!
Service and food were great!
We we're here for a birthday dinner and it was well below our expectations. The atmosphere was great and the food was prompt but otherwise the food itself and the service were both mediocre at best. We definitely won't be returning.
It was our first time here and we went for my sons 13th birthday 🎉 the staff were very welcoming and extremely friendly to my son and his friends. Will definitely be going back, great food and service too 😊☺️😊
Had a real great experience. Food presentation was great as thay matters to me a lot.
There was some confusion at first because I’m awkward and quiet and they mistook my “yeah, for 5” to mean for 5 people. That’s my fault haha. After that was sorted the waitress was super nice and accommodating and I have nothing to say about the service because it was great.
As for the food I had a Holy Smoke BBQ Burger with fries and it was delicious. Reasonably priced, made very quickly (though it wasn’t particularly busy) and really really good. The burger was a bit spicy but not too much, just as advertised. And I’m not normally big on shoestring fries but these were very good. A nice crispy outside and potatoey inside.
My fiancée got a meatless pasta dish and there’s not much to say about that but she did enjoy it quite a lot. She’s vegetarian but still enjoys jack astors because their pasta dishes are great.
We also had the cheese bread as an appetizer and that was great.
All in all the experience was reasonably priced, great food, great service. Would go again.
We received great service and the staff was very friendly. They did get one side wrong but that was not a big problem and we resolved it ourselves without notifying the staff. They did leave us for a bit and not check in but overall very positive experience. The only other thing that we found difficult was regarding our seating. We were placed at the higher chairs and table by the bar. My husband found it challenging to get onto the chair. But we managed.
Enjoyed the experience. The only negative was that I did not care for the Taco I ordered, and neither did my husband. However, this is a personal choice. Another person may have liked it.
Service very good; other things ordered very good. Beer was good.
Were disappointed in the dessert included with the Valentines special and the 'chicken pad thai' was pretty limp!!
Love this restaurant and the special $45.00 dining for two with the $20.00 bottle of wine is the best value in town
friendly bunch, great food, good selection, great location we love that it's close to the theatre.
Food and service excellent on a busy New Year's Eve.
Food came quickly and was good.
Very disappointed with the new menu and decor :( not enough choices & many of my favourites were no longer available
We were introduced to Jack Astor's by our daughter (2 small children ) and enjoyed our visit with them. We returned as a couple to see if it was as good as it seemed. WOW. Ordered fish and chips with a pitcher of Coors light and were delighted with the portion size and completely un-greasy fish coating. ...both yummy and crisp. Substituted sweet potatoes and were pleased to not be charged a big fee for that. Cole slaw was excellent and a big portion. The service was attentive without pestering. Although I didn't order a dessert I did have the donut balls when I went the first time and loved them. This will be our go to restaurant and I highly recommend it.
Save for a small hiccup with our reservation not being available on time, the evening went very well. Our server, Jordan, was the BEST, noted in our conversation that one of our party was celebrating a birthday and made sure she got the Jack Astor birthday song...nice touch and much appreciated.
The House wine should sold by the litre not by glass only. I Think the samples of new drinks on the menue they were giving out should have been trial and free not 50cents on a Summer Party Night . We are regulars. We really enjoy the wonderful service that is provided . The staff are excellent. We love food. Keep up the great work. Thanks Lisa Vassos
Made a reservation through Open Table for my mother's birthday lunch, and received e-mail confirmation from Jack Astor's. My parents, both in their seventies, were told upon their arrival that there was no reservation under my name and were instructed to "look around the restaurant" for us. We were not yet there, so they walked all around the restaurant, returned to the front desk, and then were told "We've found the reservation." This seemed a bit unprofessional and not a great way to treat seniors. The wait staff are always friendly, we like the food, and the place is very kid-friendly, but the high level of ambient noise made conversation with my parents difficult, and I could do without the TV screens everywhere with ADHD-inducing 5-second clips on constant rotation. It's distracting and annoying. I think we'll save this for kid-only meals from now on and take our older relatives elsewhere.
this place was an old favourite - food was consistently good and service was fantastic. what happenwd since their renovation? this place went downhill ovwrbight. will not return.
I hope you believe me when I say that a better server than Mike does not exist! We couldn't have possibly enjoyed our meal more. I am addicted to the asiago chicken bow tie pasta and cannot wait to come back on July 6th to order it.
