Jack Astor's - Calgary (MacLeod Trail)
In all seriousness, we take real pride in our food. Try our Cluckin’ Fresh Chicken Fingers, made and seasoned with fresh, never frozen chicken tenders. This isn’t run-of-the-mill pub grub. Our Band of Chefs are influenced by a wide variety of tastes and have travelled across the globe to gain inspiration.
But outside of the kitchen, we find it hard to take ourselves seriously. We have an Elvis booth. For no particular reason. Folks, that really does say it all. We’re sports fanatics, music nuts and love a good joke. If you’re into at least one of those things, we should hang out.
Food was good. Service was good. Only issue was I booked ahead and we were given a high table which I hate. I find high tables very uncomfortable and we had a baby with our group. The manager was very accommodating and switched our table for us but it seemed like a big ordeal. It would be nice if there were an option that stated what types of tables are available so you can make an informed decision on whether or not to book.
Food and service was great! Hadn't been here in a long time and it's much more of a sports bar now. We were honestly excited to draw on the tables but were sat in the bar and never offered the paper and felt silly asking. They do still have it but obviously more for kids haha. Had a great time either way!
Went for a birthday lunch with the kids had a great time good was excellent and the service was great. Highly recommended
Enjoyed our lunch. Waiter,Gabe was great! We will be back
Waiter was outstanding and very knowledgeable. We had great food and great service.
Went for my daughter's birthday, menu is family friendly as is the atmosphere. Staff did a great job with singing Happy birthday.
We were kind of in the corner and had to ask a few times for things like soda pop refills and additional beers.
Jack's fried chicken sandwich had sweet yum yum pickles and I felt it didn't really go together, I was fairly disappointed in that particular dish. The rest of the dishes were good.
It was great. We had a large group and everything came out in a timely manner. My meal was messed up but was fixed promptly, which I appreciated. No fuss. We’ll be back!
Extremely noisy given kids New Years count down - maybe separate family with kids and without next time
Our server was very good, attentive without being overbearing.
This birthday meal didn't go over so well. One meal was incorrect and replaced with another incorrect meal, and no credit was offered up. The server was disinterested and didn't even get the placement of meals correct. Half way through the meal the TV audio (sports channel) came blaring through the entire restaurant and it took a long time for them to figure how to turn the speakers off in different zones. Not much of a party atmosphere! The food was good but generally over priced. Not at all a great experience - probably won't be going back.
I made the reservation with open table for 2 people. I showed up and the girl at the front said there was no reservation in my name. I told her i made it several days ago and got 2 confirmations via email for my reservation on that day and time at Jack Astors. She looked on her monitor and said my name didn't show up but they still could get me a table for 2. She showed me to a table in the dining room and before i sat down i saw my dinner guest at another table across the restaurant. I joined her and she said that there was indeed a reservation in my name. I didn't bother letting the staff know i moved to another table.
Had some issues but they corrected it later, would give them another try.
Waitress was very pleasant and food was good but not great. There were fruit flies flying around. One landed in my dates drink. That really gave her a bad taste! LOL. Good thing was she chose the restaurant.
We stopped in at Jack Astor’s after a movie with another couple. Our table ordered drinks and appetizers. I felt that everything was very good other than the calamari which had too much pepper for my taste. The cheese bread was ok a favourite of my friend’s but the star was the bruschetta- very yummy. Drinks were good other than my friend’s drink did taste soapy to her. The waitress immediately changed her and her husband’s drinks (which were the same). Our waitress was efficient, professional but seemed a little quiet and lacked the warmth you’d usually find at Jack Astor’s. I think it had to do with the lateness - who knows? I like Jack Astor’s the food is usually good and the portion sizes are good. I look forward to going back.
The lady I brought too Jack Astors just loved everything about it the decore the food the service and for that thank you I myself have been many times before and you never dissapoint
Great kids menu and great with allergies!
Our food wasn’t hot, lukewarm at best. Lukewarm soup just isn’t pleasant to eat nor is a rice dish. Waiter was just okay, had to ask twice for a couple of things. And charging $3.99 for a glass of pop is ridiculous! I doubt we will go back.
We have come many times and enjoyed it very much as we drive from far NW Calgary to come. All three of our meals were bad, told the manager (short, stocky man) and he was totally unapologetic. Waitress offered us a couple of desserts and I wish we never would have accepted, they were substandard and when we left on the way home my daughter was having an allergic reaction. She is allergic to peanuts but there was only pecans in it( must have been cross contamination with peanuts. Spent until 3:30 am in Children’s hospital. So overall , one of our worst experiences there ever, won’t likely be making the long drive to this establishment ever again!!!
The hostess wasnt at the front. we waited for her to show up for 10 minutes. There was a girl standing 8 ft away that was giving away samples of beer. she didnt even talk to us or go find someone to help us but she watched us wait. then when the hostess finally showed up the beer girl offered us a sample. really? Once we were acknowledged by the hostess then we rated being offered a sample. Thank god for the waitress because she made our customer service experience better.
I found the staff to be quite less than average in service. the food was lower than average.
We ordered the kids meals at the same time as our drinks. I think the time elapse was about 3 minutes before they got their food. It was soooo quick; perfect for the littles that couldn’t wait to eat!
Food was delicious and quick. Beer was great.
Decent spot good place to bring clients
Wouldn't rush back, the food was mediocre and the service not the best. The food wasn't as ordered and avocado was missing from the salad. Asked for lemon in my water didn't get that.
Waitress was new and really didn't know the menu. Just not the best experience I've had a restaurant. Food quality was poor. Service poor and definitely not worth the price.
nice menu to choose from. friendly helpful staff. dropped in for mothers day.
the food was delicious
Thought prices were a little high for portion sizes!
I went there with my boyfriend and parents and though the chicken was a little overdone we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, there were great menu selections, service was great, and if you like a lively atmosphere it's a great place to go! Bonus that the game was on the big screens as well :)
Have been to the restaurant before and everything was as expected.
We had a really fun time and Jack's atmosphere definitely added to the occasion. It's a fun restaurant with great food and great staff. Its location is also easily accessible because it's right on Macleod. A treat from the east coast that'll make you feel right at home!
Unfortunately over the past year Jack Astor's has gone downhill. Jack Astor's used to be a great place for everything from date-night, to family of all ages dinner out, to beers and the game, to celebrating special occasions! While the "look" of Jack Astor's is still "fun" the overall atmosphere is anything but. Our server was completely disengaged and completely put-out by the simplest of requests, table maintenance was non-existent, and errors were made with our order (e.g.: house white brought when a specific red was ordered). The food portions were quite small (compared to past experiences) and terribly over cooked - even went so far as to have to send back my burger that was so overdone it was burnt on the outside and dry & crumbly on the inside sadly the second one was no better. The side soup was delivered in a HUGE bowl, but only a "side" portion - so it was a very thin layer of soup on the bottom of the bowl - and cold :(
The kids potions were no better, the "build your own taco" had barely enough meat and cheese for two of the 4 tiny-mini tortilla with the bowl of ingredients being filled with shredded lettus. A very disappointing experience, and sadly hearing 3 of the tables around us also have to send food back or receive the wrong orders just further added to the negative experience.
Server was highly attentive without being intrusive. Food was excellent as usual.
So average. Prices are very high for the quality and portion of food. Spoke to a manager about one of the portions and he really couldn't care less. He did end up taking it off the bill (thank you) but gave us no indication that he was going to. He was very abrupt and impatient. Overall I went there appease my kids. There are a million other places in town that serve better quality and better prices. I was really surprised to see how much their items were!
Amazing salmon. Great tasting food.
our server, Che, was very attentive without rushing us and very knowledgeable and courteous .
We all had a lovely time and enjoyed our meals. The only negative comment I received was that the mini brownie was dry and needed more chocolate, otherwise everything was excellent.
Service was very slow and she forgot the appy and someone's side never came. Asked if it was ok if she didn't bring it when we said it was forgotten. Food was great and we like the atmosphere but the service was slow and left a lot to be desired
Great food, good people, great service! Will recommend this place for other occasions.
The service we received was slow at best. We had to ask what the soup of the day was and if they had any specials. Asked a few questions about the menu - I have allergies - which were answered no problem. We were asked if we were having an appetizer and since we weren't, we were ready to order our meal. Instead the waitress said okay, and walked away. Came back about 5 minutes later. I wasn't impressed with the service, until of course she brought the bill. Then she was all bubbly and asking how our meal was and if we wanted drink refills or anything else. Probably won't go back.
Was disappointed, people compared the Earls and Moxies...I don’t think it’s in the same league.
The food is always amazing and the servers make the meal so much fun! They are attentive, pleasant and unobtrusive. Perfect mix! :)
Everything was really good. Server was great and very helpful with menu.
Everything was great! The only thing that was a low point is when we left I forgot to grab my homemade birthday card from my grandsons. I phoned within 10 min and returned to restaurant to have the staff look and was very disappointed the card was discarded with the paper table liner. Something I can never replace :( it was my responsibility to remember to take it but I grab my leftovers and forgot the card. My suggestion is to have staff take note of items on the table before they quickly wrap up the paper liner.
