Jack & Giulio's Italian Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I love the authenticity of the food but the ambiance out on the patio kind of ruins the experience. We were forced to sit out there during Valentine's day because she had to "rotate the tables", which shouldn't be my problem. I suggest you invest in a better outdoor dining experience. Otherwise it felt like I was sitting on cheap furniture on the side of my house. The server was outstanding and the food was delicious...just the ambiance sort of ruined it all.
Jack and Giulio’s has been my go to resturant for years. Out of town guests always rave about the food, especially Scampi Alla Guilio. This occasion was diner befor the play Hamilton! We invited fiends from La Jolla and they loved it. Jack is the consummate host that makes your dinning experience unforgettable! This restaurant is a gem in San Diego! Located in old town that is fun in its self! You won’t be disappointed! Thanks Jack!
Overall, it was a pleasant experience...but there were a few things I was disappointed.
#1....the shrimp was delicious but canned mushrooms???
#2....the penne was from a box ...for the price we pay I would expect homemade pasta or at least cooked al dente
#3...the chocolate mousse was good but canned whipped cream...YIKES
Our grown children and ourselves were spending Christmas in San Diego. We booked a table for Christmas Eve and were very happy with our choice. We were greeted as old friends, and sat at the bar for a bit as we were early. The cocktails were delicious, my old fashioned had hand mulled fruit! The authentic Italian food was wonderful. We were the last seating of the night but we did not notice. We all enjoyed the seafood and would highly recommend planning a night out there.
We have been enjoying the wonderful food at Jack and Giulios since they had their restaurant in Pacific Beach, many long years ago! In all those years, we have NEVER had less than a fantastically delicious meal at this wonderful restaurant! Though Scampi Ala Giulio is one of our favorite dishes, everything else on the menu is also sumptuous and excellent!! For everything from very special events, like anniversaries and birthdays, to just casual dining, Jack and Giulios remains one of San Diego’s best restaurants!!
Great northern Italian restaurant, chef Giulio originally from Piacenza. Scampi to die for, especially the scampi Giulio, but also love the pesto scampi. Also great job on many of the classics, including veal or chicken piccata/marsala, lasagna, eggplant or veal parmesan, homemade pastas (e.g., tortellini Piacentina or tortelloni verdi). Heart of palm salad excellent, with avos and a pesto dressing. Great Italian wine options, including hard-to-find wines from Piacenza region (try the Romeo, a blend of barbera and croatina grapes).
Three of our four orders were served together, hot and delicious, the 4th was served nearly 10 minutes later and not hot. Our waiter disappeared for awhile so I had to wait to ask them to "nuke" my order as it was not hot. It was brought back hot however there was no dialog as to the temperature or why I had made the request. I ordered the eggplant and veal dish which I was told by the waiter was a good choice, based upon what I was served, I disagree.
3 out of 4 good meals is not bad, however bread was not served with our meals and had to be ordered ala cart as were the salads. I might be willing to try them again.
