Ja' Grill Hyde Park
Good was delicious. Was seated right away. Got a free drink when we sat down for their 5th anniversary which was really cool.
I OFTEN FREQUENT JA'GRILLE. IT'S SEEMED AS IF IT'S ALWAYS SOME ISSUE WITH THE SEATING, THE STAFF, TABLES ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. ONE VISIT YOUR FOOD IS EXCEPTIONAL WHILE THE NEXT VISIT IT'S HORRIBLE. IT'S NOT CONSISTENT.
LAST SATURDAY WE WAITED APPROXIMATELY AN HOUR FOR OUR FOOD, WE WERE IGNORED BY WAITRESS, THE PERSON WHO BROUGHT OUR FOOD TO US, WHEN IT FINALLY ARRIVED WENT FROM TABLE TO TABLE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHOSE FOOD WAS IT. PLEASE KNOW THAT THE SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED TWO WEEKS PRIOR. SEVERAL WAITER WERE DELIVERING FOOD TO THE WRONG TABLE. WELL BY THE TIME WE RECEIVED OUR FOOD IT WAS PASSED AROUND ABOUT THREE TABLES WHEN THE GENTLEMAN FINALLY WENT BACK TO THE KITCHEN AND GAVE IT TO US. WE POLITELY WALKED OUT. WE ARE VERY CONSCIOUS OF WHAT WE EAT AND HOW OUR FOOD IS BEING HANDLED.
Great food, excellent cocktails, a little noisy.
Had a great time and were seated fairly quickly with our reservation, despite it being busy. Good food, fun ambiance, great drinks.
Service is consistently lackluster
Wedding anniversary weekend
Paris was our server and was very pleasant. I've been to Ja'Grill a few times and they never disappoint.
The food was good. Everything was cooked with awesome seasoning. The waiter, Michael, was very attentive and helpful. Be ready to eat when you order because the food comes out fast. My favorite was the jerk catfish and the cabbage.
We loved everything about it, the food was bomb and the drinks were bomb too. We will definitely go back!
Best restaurant in Hyde Park to spend your weekend nights with friends and family-!
We arrived 5 minutes prior to our scheduled reservation and were told to stand next to the female restroom until we could be seated. We were finally seated 20 minutes later and did not have waiter approach us until 15 minutes later after I spoke with a busboy. Nevertheless the meal was outstanding as usual, but the service lowered our level of satisfaction with customer service.
Great food!!!! Will visit again when I’m in Chicago.
We visit when in Chicago. The food is always wonderfully authentic. Looking forward to the next visit already!
Food prices drastically increased but portions decreased.
The food wasn't that good, however the service that Roxie/Roxy provided which was our server, was oooohmazing. I was so amazed at how she worked the room without one complaint, she was the ONLY server that evening. She smiled the entire time and NEVER complained once and came around a few times to check on my table. Hell, I was tired just watching her work. I would definitely return and maybe order something else on the menu. My hat truly goes off to Ms. Roxie/Roxy
My recommendations would strictly be based upon my support for black owned business’s
Brought a friend for the first time and she really was pleased. Both of our dishes were delicious! She had the jerk shrimp and I had the ox tail. Yummy, highly recommend.
This restaurant was some place I haven’t been since moving from Chicago and I love spicy food, so I gave it a try. It did not disappoint and the cabbage was delicious.
The service was horrible!! I made a reservation. When we arrived the hostess was sitting down and looked up to find me standing in front of her. She continued sitting down until I told her we had a reservation. She then went to the computer screen and pulled up our names. Really? Stand up and do your job boo. There were only aisle tables. I requested a different table. After waiting 25 minutes a booth table became available, it seated two, however there was an open table next to it. They could’ve easily pushed the table together to accommodate our party of three. They refused citing they could not push them together because they have to clean two table instead of one. 🤨 while we waited for another table we asked to order drinks, we asked. No one came to take our drink order. I finally flagged down a worker and asked to order drinks. Once our drink order was placed we waited another 20 minutes for our drinks. After being seat, over an hour after our reservation time, we ordered our appetizers and soft drinks. Appetizers took a long time to come. Then once the entrees came out the served in person in our party then brought the past to entrees five minutes later. I kept having to wave down out waiter. I asked for dessert three times to two different people. Once I received the check with the tip it was $175. TALK ABOUT OVERPRICED. This was for three people. The food was good but I doubt I’ll be back. Horrible service and overpriced food nope. Y’all can keep that.
The food was good, the service was terrible. The waitress was hardly available if you needed anything, including a refill on beverages. The restaurant is small so you are really close to other diners, you can hear their entire conversation. It's probably best to go on a non busy day so you won't experience the crowd & won't feel as though you are too close to other diners.
Wonderful relaxed environment great service and staff is so relatable. 9 out 10 of my experience here have been great.
Food and drinks are great, good value. Service needs some attention to the crowd size.
Great representation of Chicago flavors!!!
The parking was very difficult, other than that it was great. The food was excellent. We got the ox tail stew. When we were finished I forgot my cell phone and the waiter came outside to give it to me. I will be going back.
It was very busy so I had patience. More organization and servers are needed to be more attentive to the customers. Overall, friendly staff and the food/drinks are good. Will definitely go back!
I've been here several times & I love the jerk shrimp & red beans/ rice. The weekends are lively with a DJ playing music.
Horrible service horrible wait time.... Unprofessional and lack of food
The jerk chicken was over cooked and dry.
Waiter Raushaun was always missing and we had to keep asking two other members to get him or assist us. Food was awful. Oxtail and stew chicken had a thick icky sauce, really bad. The chicken soup had flavor like packet soup and was too salty that we had to return it.
We don’t plan on returning unless they get an authentic Jamaican cook who actually knows how to make meals tasty and maintain flavor. Do not go for food and private dining!
I really enjoy eating Ja'Grill's food. It took a little long to be served even though I had a reservation. But once Roxie came, I was happy. Tge onky other thing is obe of my food items didn't come until I was ready to go.
This is my second time coming to Ja' Grill. The drinks are good along with the food. It can be a little packed but that adds to the vibe of the restaurant. Everyone was in good spirits.
A trip to Jamaica in Hyde Park. Fun place!Excellent interesting food and great ambiance! Great value!
We visited for Mother's Day. Overall, the location is very small, so you feel like you're sitting on top of people. You can practically hear other people's conversation without being included. The food was decent and the drinks were ok. I would only go back for the steam cabbage, the cabbage had me at hello.
This was my 2nd visit to this restaurant and have received very good Service on both occasions. Considering this was on Mothers day on this visit I expected crowds. Pleasantly surprised that my table was available on time. The portions are enough for two meals. My table of four had whole red snapper, curried goat and oxtails. All were very good. Our server Denise was professional, friendly and patient. I was impressed that on the way out because we had an elderly person with some vision impairment the person who seated us ( forgot her name) was able to prevent us from having to walk around the longer way to exit. Thanks for that. Also observed that Reserved signs were placed on tables until those guests arrived. Will definitely continue to patronize this business
Our server, Michael, was phenomenal! His recommendations were on point and our food was spectacular. My only concern is the noise level. It is entirely too loud and I don’t think it’s because of the acoustics. My recommendation is to lower the music because it’s hard to hear the person next to you.
I love this place! The food is outstanding, the staff is great and it has a cool casual atmosphere. If you grew up on Queens and Brooklyn NY Jamiacan food like I did Ja' Grill will take you back to the good old days of coco bread, jerk chicken and a whole lot more. DO NOT forget to try their bread pudding.
Great food and service. The rum punch is a must have or have a shot of Balvenie Scotch make sure it’s the 15 year.
Enjoyable experience all though prices are expensive for the standard Jamaican cuisine. $25 for Oxtail and $32 for lamb chops (WOW)
Noise level extremely high but nevertheless an enjoyable night out.
Be sure to make reservations on open table for a stress free experience.
Jerk chicken was on point. Rum Punch never disappoints. The Dark & Stormy drink is good but too much ice, not a good value.
FOOD ALWAYS GREAT ! THE SERVERS AND BUS BOYs NEED TO LEARN GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE!
