J Sheekey - The Restaurant
food great, tasty and beautifully presented. The staff very attentive..we visited the restaurant for our anniversary and was pleasantly surprised that our desert plates they wrote happy anniversary which we had not requested...we will be returning to the restaurant again.
They can’t break their habit of rushing you through your meal. Otherwise an excellent restaurant as ever
Great seafood, booked here for a team dinner and everyone loved it. Including a French member of the team who is a food snob!
Some of the best seafood I've ever had, as always. It had been a few years since dining at J. Sheekey, and it was my first time to do so in the formal dining room versus the bar area so it was wonderful to see nothing has changed. It's always been on my list of recommended restaurants in London when friends ask and it will continue to be at the top for the quality of food, service, ambiance, history and location. Thank you!
I love this restaurant because quite simply the food is always superb. The ambiance and the service is fantastic as well but the food is awesome !
Lesson learned: Don’t go here when everyone is flooding the place in a hurry to get to the theater. It’s packed, very loud, severs can’t keep up, and the food is all over cooked.
Service was average. Not very attentive and took forever to get a final check. No coffee refill. Cover charge? C’mon.
Quality seafood and excellent service. My only issue was that it was a bit noisy as out table was directly in front of the mini kitchen area.
food was excellent but the service felt a bit rushed
J Sheekey is my favourite restaurant & has been for many years.
I always feel very at home
Great service. Great food. Felt very well looked after!
Quite disappointed by our first visit here. The service was too slow given it was a 5:45pm pre-theatre booking and the restaurant was not that busy. The food was OK but not good enough to make us want to return in a hurry. The whole experience smacked of style over substance.
One of the most sublime and memorable dining experiences of my life. You will not find better seafood anywhere in the world the dressed crab is a must as are the prawns and the sole do not pass go do not collect 200 just eat here
Outstanding food & perfect service.
Sheekeys remains my favourite restaurant
Lovey fish and side dishes
Excellent stuff and nice environment
I took a friend here as a birthday treat and overall I would recommend it. The service is good and strikes the right balance of looking after your needs, but not being over-attentive. I did have to ask one waiter not to do something that is a personal bugbear of mine, which is to top up the wine after only a couple of tips. We had a carafe of wine and I wanted to keep it out of the glass and chilling in the ice bucket for as long as possible. The waiter quickly apologised and took my feedback on board immediately. The food was excellent and our two fish dishes were perfectly cooked and the portion sizes were very good. I couldn't fault it. My brother and I are intending to bring my Dad as an 80th birthday treat next month. He used to love J Sheekey when he ran a business in the area. I think he will enjoy the experience and find that very little has changed since he used to go there in the 80s and 90s. It's not cheap, but very worthwhile for a special occasion.
I love this place, its consistently good food and fun, especially right before a show in the Westend.
Always superb. I usually go to the other side of the restaurant which is far cheaper so decided to treat myself on this occasion and was not disappointed. The service, ambience and food was superb. Will definitely recommend.
I took my wife for a late lunch as we were going to the theatre next door. I didn't realise what I ordered was just an expensive fish and chips. The batter was very thick. My wife's choice was better. The couple next to us laboured through a mountain of fruit de mer, and clearly enjoyed it. We should have ordered that.
A wonderful evening - Sheekeys at its best. Faultless food, good if expensive wine, mostly good service and a feeling of wellbeing soaking up the atmosphere. On my last visit (2 months ago) I felt some of the sparkle might have gone but our pre-theatre supper on 5 June proved it had not! I shall be back!
First visit. Very enjoyable evening, will go back.
For starters we had gravlax and tuna tartar and then the turbot for two. This restaurant is one of the best in Britain fir seafood.
27th Wedding Anniversary and service was amazing. The pudding came with Happy 27th Wedding Anniversary. Nice touch!
Birthday celebration. - great day out
My sons birthday he loved it
This restaurant seems to me to be coasting on its previous reputation. I visited with a companion. Her first course of smoked eal was good apparently. However the eal is bought in of course. Mine was overcooked scallops. No point in eating a scallop which is not perfectly cooked. Her main course of sea trout was good. I had rare tuna which was ok but accompanied by some of the smallest lentils ever seen and a white smear which was supposed to taste of coconut but didn’t. She lost out on the pudding course. A scandalous creme brûlée which probably had half an egg in it and very little sign of the brûlée. My pudding was indifferent. Total bill including carafe of house white, gin and tonic and glass of Ayala champagne: £188. Never again.
A wonderful restaurant! Great staff ,great food!
Nice if you're going to theatre
We totally enjoyed out dinner at J. Sheekey. The dishes are creatively done, particularly the appetizers we had - razor clams and dressed crab. The service was excellent - anticipating what we wanted without being effusive. Hope to eat here again when I am in London.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. All dishes were delicious and the service was very good.
I adore this place. Discreet but always on the ball. attention to detail is perfect just wish i could come here more often
Fabulous place for a special occasion with excellent food and service. Great menu for vegetarians/pescatarians too.
The food at J Sheekey was excellent. There was a good range of tasty dishes which were well presented. However, there was a rush from the beginning to get us out because the table had 9.30pm deadline. We ordered cocktails and specifically asked for time to drink them before the food was served. Moments after we started the cocktails the first course arrived. The food had to go back to the kitchen. It was a shoddy start to the meal and diminished the overall experience. The staff were apologetic but it should not happen in a restaurant of this calibre. We left at about 9.45pm by which time we were surrounded by empty tables. Why the rush? It has put me off going back or recommending this restaurant.
Maybe....if theater is close by and you are wanting fish. Wouldn’t go out of my way to go there.
Fantastic meal fantastic wine
If you love great seafood, great service and a special evening, then dinner at J Sheekeys is the perfect venue. We went pre-theatre and everything went perfectly but never felt rushed or forced. One of my favourite places
The Place in London, even better than The Ivy. More original food,
This was my first visit to this restaurant and I have always meant to try it. The experience was delightful as the staff are all very welcoming and attentive. The choice of food is extensive and the quality exceptional. The dessert menu is particularly tempting.
An excellent place for dinner, especially if you are as much as fan of seafood as my wife is. We were there pre-theatre and the kitchen coped faultlessly with us ordering in dribs and drabs as various members of our party arrived late from work. The monkfish curry is always a winner, the stuffed courgette flower with asparagus was delicious, and the sole was also voted a success. Only the grilled tuna could have been a bit pinker. Service was excellent and accommodating. There's a reason this place is still going strong.
