A bit of a disappointment but the manager tried hard to improve the experience.
Nice atmosphere. Friendly and attentive staff. Good Food.
We have always enjoyed J Paul's!!!Best burger s in DC and the fish tacos s rock!!
Despite an atmosphere that may seem cramped to some, J Pauls delivered in terms of service and food. The Scallops were outstanding and the steak was one of the best I've had in the DC area. The vibrant scene and the people watching kept our group (even the kids) entertained. I wouldn't put this in the "kid friendly" category (no video games or trampolines), but we knew what we were getting into from the outset. That being said, the waitstaff went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect and the kids we're entertained throughout the meal.
In all GO HERE if you're looking for a great meal with friends or a date!!!!
Fun, upbeat, great service, delicious food and drinks. A Georgetown classic.
Food was very good, wait staff was attentive but not overly. Seated promptly. My husband said the tuna tartare was excellent.
Overall the experience was good. I ordered the diver scallops, and they were very tasty (my only complaint would be with occasionally encountering sand/grit in the scallops, but this often comes with the territory and cannot be helped). My date ordered the roasted beet, apple, spinach, and kale salad, which she thought was also very good. For dessert we ordered the Oreo and marshmallow bread pudding, which was delicious.
Our server was polite and friendly, but service could have been more timely. We probably waited 8–10 minutes after being sat before our server came to introduce himself (first-world problem, I know, but restaurants are usually more prompt than this). Our server also had a bit of trouble understanding us at times. I think this was partly because English was not his first language, but more so because the restaurant was extremely busy and loud.
And speaking of ambience, in addition to being loud, the tables in the restaurant were packed closely together. I realize restaurants are trying to be space efficient, but I prefer a little more space between me and the person at the next table over. I could literally have rubbed elbows with my neighbor to the right.
The value was OK. I didn't feel full after finishing my entree—that's partly why we ordered dessert—and that's something I look for in a meal (especially considering the prices around here!). The food was good, though, and interesting (in terms of creativity, ingredients, presentation, etc.). I might go back there again just to explore other items on the menu, but I don't feel like it would be a travesty if I didn't.
When we arrived they said they couldn’t honor our open table reservation because they were too busy. But when we pushed back they seated us, and said that we would have to wait 30 minutes to order. But when the waiter came he let us order like normal. It was weird, they didn’t even seem that busy. But the food and drinks were ok after that.
It was good
It was Sunday brunch, and the kitchen was a bit slammed. Our server was a bit over taxed, but did a decent job of making sure that we had what we needed, eventually.
Brunch was amazing!
First time at JPauls with out of town friends. It was a busy Saturday night. While loud inside the atmospheres was fun. Service and food were quite good. Portions were on the larger side and overall price value was excellent. Would come back again without hesitation.
We were looking for a mid-priced restaurant in Georgetown that was easily accessible and found J Paul's.
The restaurant Is located right on M street which is one of the main streets in Georgetown and in the center of the restaurant row.
This is a very busy bar/restaurant with two major sections with one side having booths in the bar area and the other have white table cloths and a bit nicer.
Unfortunately we were sat in the bar section which wasn't optimal but it was so crowded on a Saturday night we didn't want to have to wait any longer for a table and just accepted it.
Our server Luis was fantastic! He was really outgoing and friendly and exceptionally patient with us as we sat at his table for over 4 hours. He was never pushy or irritated and kept filling our water glasses and drink glasses without incident.
Dinner was really good, I had the Getty pasta dish with shrimp and mussels and my friends had the beet salad, jambalaya and a chicken sandwich. All really enjoyed our meal.
Prices are reasonable and the vibe is lively.
Food was fine; no complaints. Service was very good for a party of 10. Friendly staff. Seafood pasta was pretty good...would have been nice to have more "seafood". Shrimp and mussels only...could expand to include scallops and clams.
Great service and excellent wings. Nothing wrong with 50% off bottle beer.
The server was great - she made the experience. The chili nachos were outstanding. The sliders and crab cake sandwich was very good. The french fries could use work.
Excellent customer service with a friendly attitude. Broad menu with creative touches.
Well worth while.
We will go back again.
We use to be regulars here, but I was quickly reminded why we stopped. First, the service was horrendous. (10 minutes to be greeted, another 15 minutes to get drinks, appetizer was wrong), and on a freezing cold evening they didn’t have the heater on. Every person on the restaurant had their winter coat on during their meal! Even the wait staff had on coats or sweaters. With all the problems, no one made an effort to recifty or make the situation better. Then, when paying, they screwed up the credit card, charging the incorrect amount, which caused more problems. Sad to see such a staple restaurant to take such a nosedive.
We went for brunch on New Year's Day, 2017. That was a very cold day in Washington DC, and the restaurant was freezing ... nearly all the diners had to keep their coats on during their meals. More disappointing, it took nearly an hour from the time we ordered until our entrees arrived ... and we weren't the only diners who had that experience. Clearly the restaurant was unprepared ... for either the weather or the number of guests they elected to serve. Incredibly unpleasant experience.
My brunch was cold and mediocre besides. Noone at our table was too pleased by their order. Service couldn’t have been nicer. Back room very cold.
Very nice experience.....good food, service and ambiance....reasonable prices.
Unfortunately food was NOT good for the price, won't go back again
Went to J Paul’s as a surprise graduation party for My fiancé. Warren(Manager) was very accommodating and helped me to make it a really special day for her. Plenty of room, great service and well priced drinks= a Great Time. We will be back
Wow! Great reasonably priced spot for parents, Young 20 somethings, 30-60 something's and everyone in between. Great food, fun music, great/caring staff able to make both an intimate setting and casual bar hang. 10/10 for sure
Enjoyed Christmas lunch with family. Festive and good food.
We went in for a quick lunch on Christmas Day. We sat in the bar area and the two servers we had were great. Both were professional and worked well together. We left wanting to come back for a dinner service where we could really enjoy the food and the atmosphere. See you soon!
Used to be much better
We went here for Christmas Eve dinner - great food, service, and atmosphere. We definitely will be back again!
Our waiter really made our experience wonderful, and the food was great!
Food was excellent, service was mediocre.
Went with my family and it was very good. I would go back without hesitation
Mediocre food and our drinks came out all wrong. Luckily the manager apologized for the wine being served in a wine glass with strong bleach odor. Clyde’s or Paolo’s is a much better choice in Georgetown for everyday dining. Very disappointed in J. Paul’s.
Nothing went right. We had a reservation on open table and were told when we arrived there would be an hour wait. I had to be insistent and only then did they find a table. Then it took 40 minutes to get water and a Diet Coke. Except the Diet Coke turned out to be Dr Pepper. They kept bringing out Diet Coke which was Dr Pepper until I finally just stuck with the water. One of our party did not get her food until we were all done eating and our plates had been cleared. One other received his food 19 minutes before our plates were cleared. On top of it, the burgers were extremely greasy. There is almost nothing good I can say about this experience. Never ever again.
Our experience started out a little rocky as our table for 12 wasn't ready when we arrived and we were told we'd have to wait for the large table to clear. However they turned our experience around by moving us to an upstairs private room which was great for our large party and our server was fantastic. Everyone enjoyed the food and service therefore our birthday celebration was a success!
Great food, very reasonably priced, great location, excellent service
Freddie was an excellent and attentive server. I was sat with a great view of the street. Try the Ribs/Crabcake combo. AMAZING! Prices very reasonable, I'll definitely be back!
We waited for the meal of one of us for a very long time. They forgot about him.
The food was not very good.
