Food was terrific as usual. The waitstaff was exceptional. When we arrived, the background music was a little too loud. We had my elderly mother in law with us and it was hard for us to have a conversation. We asked if the volume could be lowered, and they graciously accommodated us. Always a wonderful experience.

Server and food were very good as usual, what ruined the visit was the blonde hostess who rudely said, loud enough for me to hear, something about what was on my open table profile. It was very rude not only to say but also that I could hear. I realize she is young and stupid but it really did dampen my experience.
I had a steak which was very tender, but not very tasty. Because of this, I was somewhat disappointed. My wife had Vermont chicken and was happy with it. This was the first time we had been back to the restaurant in more than a year. I didn't feel it was worth the cost. Sorry.

Biggest complaint was the 30 min wait for my reserved table. Kinda defeats the purpose of a reservation.
Went for Valentines Day weekend. Had a great meal. Very busy but we got in with our reservation and had a great meal.
Very enjoyable especially considering these hard times. Felt safe and excellent protocols were in place and being followed.
We had a very enjoyable meal from appetizers to desserts. Service was also great very attentive without the feel of hovering.

J. Morgan's is a wonderful choice anytime, but especially in the pandemic environment. The tables are well spaced, thoroughly disinfected between diners, mask wearing is well enforced, servers are wearing gloves. We felt completely comfortable. The menu remains outstanding as does the food. They have a mandatory 20% service fee, about which they are upfront and we don't find objectionable. Overall a wonderful dining experience.
Great experience! Delicious food and drinks (garlic bread and steak dinners). Hosts and Waitstaff were friendly and highly attentive. The atmosphere was clean, extremely well spaced, and we sat in the back room which was like being on a lit patio-lovely!

Date night, well, it was just 3 pm. We want to avoid any crowds but we also wanted to support j morgans because it’s one of our favorite restaurants and I love their tuna salad and their shrimp cocktail. I wish they would put on some more healthier dishes that use fish but not swimming in butter or oil.
We greatly enjoy eating at J Morgans. Although some of our favorites are not on the current COVID menu we still enjoy the ability to eat out socially distanced. We have had a few luke warm steaks recently, but overall we have been happy with flavor, and the strawberry chiffon cake is AHHH MAZING! and a have to ( Even if it is to go ;) ).
The staff was friendly and helpful. Our waitress was attentive and professional- a breath of fresh air in this day and age ! Will definitely be back. -Tim
During Covid in Januaray. We sat in the garden area. Our first trip to Barre/Montpelier. I would go J morgans again. Nice atmosphere, excellent food. But being one of the finest restaurants in Montpelier, my criticisms are based on that fact. Music - not the best of choice. A bit too loud to start with and way too much bass. They did adjust the volume and bass when I had requested. Service- very polite and nice servers. Server came immediately to take our drink order. No time to review the drink menu. One person did order a drink at that time and a bus person delivered it. Our server took awhile to come back for my initial drink order. When the server came back, I skipped the cocktail order and ordered the dinner wine along with our apps. Wine came, glasses poured. Apps came, ordered entrees. Wine was never poured again ( along with water glasses) - is this something that servers are no longer doing, covid related, I am not sure. Dirty utensils removed and replaced which was nice.
We loved it 2 of us had the duck which was great then 1 had filet mignon and I had the top sirloin both excellent But you must try their garlic bread bam as Emiral would say

I brought my cousin and 3 kids with me - we sat in the bar area dining section- I love this restaurant - been going there for years- this time it was so bad- I just had to write this review - we were there over 1:15 min before our food arrived - service was poor and it wasn’t all that busy- it was frustrating - very frustrating. This experience was NOT the J Morgan’s I know- but Covid or not- this was pretty bad- the food was cold, the lobster mac&cheese was terrible - and it had only a few pieces of lobster - and to make it worse- they automatically assigned 20% for gratuity - something that was not deserved- I was going to tip about 10-12%- 20% wasn’t deserved at all.

J Morgans is the best gourmet food in Montpelier. Moderately prices and a wo Derulo ambiance with casual dining attire.
We had a late reservation, and Morgan's was perhaps 45 minutes away from closing, but we were never made to feel rushed. We were assured by a very friendly and professional staff that we could take our time and have a drink before we ordered. The food was excellent. Our kudos to the entire staff. We live in New Jersey, but we anticipate visiting Montpelier again, staying at the Capitol Plaza Hotel, and eating at Morgan's.

I haven't been out too much during this pandemic, but I miss dining out at J. Morgans. We were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar, and was pleasantly surprised that each set of bar stools was surrounded by plexiglass. Our dinner was amazing, we both had steak. The salad alone was a meal, and the atmosphere is always pleasant. For just a little while it was nice to dine out. Thank you!

The food, as always, was exceptional however the service was horrible. It took 45 minutes to get our appetizers, it took an average of 20-25 minutes to get beverages and kept hearing that the bar was backed up yet there was no one behind the bar.
Will go back because of the food but the service was extremely slow especially when it wasn’t overly crowded.
