The food was great, took a little long but it came out warm and yummy! It was out anniversary and the desert plate we received was great! Gretchen was fabulous and our waiter was good too.
An excellent meal and a good value. Nice to see all the wait staff wearing gloves.
Thank you for the good food and for great evening.
Sunday brunch was pretty awesome! Just a few things that would make it a little better.
The corned beef hash was a little salty but there shouldn’t be anything but corned beef potatoes and onion Done! There was like a pickling spice and green peppers👎🏼. Home fries were pretty darn good but slightly salty. Overall great brunch would defiantly go again and will defiantly suggest to friends and family. Omelet station was to die for!
Always a great time and great food! Been coming her for years with my family, the food is always spectacular. Brunch is well worth the price. Dinner is even better!
Met up to take a couple friends out for belated birthday dinners. One had the beef tip special (very good) the other 2 of us each had a different salad. Cobb salad which is a favorite of ours and we’re known to order it each time we go, didn’t seem to have any where near the amount of fixings on it but plenty of greens. Myself I changed it up and went with the Vermonter salad. I thought for the price of it as much greens as the Cobb salad had mine was very sparse and as for topping hardly anything on it including the smoked chicken.
All around great atmosphere and good service but we were disappointed in our salads this time.
It was a great place. Meat was cooked properly, and even the beets that came with the steak were delicious (coming from someone who doesn’t like beets at all.)
My only complaint is that I wanted a nice date with my BF but got a table right in the center of the restaurant’s walkways.
pricey, but it was very good. Stuffed pork chop was excellent and the vegetable selection was very good and different. Sometime the place could use a facelift, doesn't match the pricing. Been a few times will go back very good.
My favorite restaurant in VT, Food was amazing as always, lobster Mac n cheese had nice big chunks of lobster. Pesto scallop dinner was so good. 4 large, fresh, sweet scallops, the cream sauce was out of this world and you can't go wrong with an order of the garlic bread. You will not be disappointed eating here.
Food was excellent! Generous portions and beautifully displayed. We enjoyed our food tremendously. However, our server was poorly trained. For example, we got our check before we got our dessert order. We asked for ketchup and it did not come initial after the meal. We ordered steaks and the server didn’t bring steak knives. When we asked for them, she brought only two (four of us ordered / needed knives).
With that being said, the food was great and value was there. Very high quality food.
I have used Open table to make reservations at this restaurant several times. We were seated at a table right next to the kitchen doors. Constant back and forth of a busy staff. I really don't think there should be a table here at all. It took a half an hour to get the drink I ordered when we first sat down. They no longer bring bread to table, instead they bring a small cup of hummus and some croutons. This was pretty sad. I get it was Saturday night, but the food was thrown together and really looked lousy. I will not be returning.
We made a reservation and still waited 30 minutes to get a table. When it was time to be seated, we were seated at a tiny table in the back of the room in a corner next to the kitchen. So we took the time to make a reservation and still had to wait for a bad table.
It was not advertised that the menu had been limited due to valentine's day the day before.
People were waiting 20 minutes just to pay their checks and the tables were not even full.
Always the best food and service. Worth the extra money and wait
Our diners were delicious. The waiter never told us the other couple specials they were running. I was not given a carnation but saw everyone else got one. The dessert we chose was a blood orange, pineapple upside down cake with ice cream and berries. We chose to take it home to eat later as we were full. It was hard and stale not good at all. If I had eaten it there I would have sent it back. It was awful!
Food was really good, using NECI on Main as THE Montpelier area standard for excellence. Prices high, but not unreasonable, I've no problem with that. Service was a bit slow, but the restaurant was REALLY busy, as it was the night before Valentine's Day. This is not a complaint, just fact. The waitstaff was pleasant, conversational, and were working their butts off trying to make the experience great for all diners. The house Malbec was very good. I would definitely consider another dinner at J. Morgans!
Rack of lamb entree, and scallop entree, were incredible. Generous amounts of delicious Lyonnaise potatoes and veggies mostly asparagus. Creme brul. was delicious as usual, loved the fresh fruit with it. Peanut butter pie was mediocre... Wondered if it had been frozen. Only thing I wouldn't get again. Fantastic restaurant!
Great food, fantastic service. Not inexpensive, but you get a full meal for the price. Desserts are fabulous! Really enjoyed eating here. Also, the trains are delightful.
The ambiance was nice. The menu looked like beef was their specialty. I ordered a rib eye medium rare. I truly doubt I was served a rib eye. It had no fat or marbling, was chewy and overcooked. The sweet potato was the smallest I’ve ever seen, offering only three bites of potato. The vegetable medley was very good- butternut squash, Brussel sprouts, beets. The side salad was just okay. My date’s scallops looked delicious and she enjoyed them very much.
We came here on Sunday night, the Shirmp cocktail was grate and the garlic bread too. I had stake it was good, my girl had scalops it was ok. To be call a Steak house the service was not good, when you spent$$$ you expect much better.
J Morgans has the best brunch in Vermont, as always!
Amazing food as always. If you want something off the hook, try the shrimp scampi with angel hair and add a side of lobster Mac and cheese. Mix together and it doesn’t get much better than that!!
We were celebrating my girlfriends 21st and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience
Always pleasant service with superb cuisine
Amazing hamburgers. huge tasty salads. all the food we tasted was superb. the wines are very reasonably priced also.
We have been going to J Morgan's for many years during the holidays. This was our last visit. We now have to pay for bread, pay for salad. C'mon, just charge a dollar or two more for each entree. Our proteins were overcooked. The water was free, but we only got one glass. No one came by to refill them. This had always been our "go to" restaurant. We are so disappointed.
Always love dining here and the fact they had prime rib for my date made it the perfect dinner date! I had Filet and both were Excellent, Cheyenne our waitress was fantastic and prompt. Busy night Sat between Christmas and New year and a wonderful time we had! Highly recommend JMorgans will look forward to trip back👌🏻
Always a great experience! Recommend this restaurant to everyone. Great staff and amazing food!
We were celebrating our anniversary and had a very nice experience. The service was excellent as was the food. Our table was near the entrance which was not ideal, but the food and service made up for that. Our server, Gretchen, was very efficient and friendly. We were surprised to receive a complimentary dessert in honor of our anniversary. Very nice touch. We would recommend J. Morgan’s for any special celebration.
wonderful resturant great food cooked correctly and very cost effective
Always a great place to eat! The food is wonderful and the service fantastic!!!
Everything was so yummy from the salads, to the steak, right on to the cake. I will be back. It was worth the drive! Our server did a lovely job.
Food was so so. Mashed potatoes were supposed to have blue cheese on them, there was maybe a 1/2 teaspoon at most. I had the steak with blue cheese as well and it was also sparsely populated. Food was not hot.
I have been here quite a few times in the past 15 years and the quality has gone down noticeably in the past couple of years. I don't think I will be returning anytime soon.
The food is mediocre at best and the price is high. Sorry, we are locals and periodically give it another try, but still find it is not a good value.
There was a time when four of us would go to J Morgan's every Saturday night. However, over the last few years the menu has been shrinking to the point where not all of us are very happy any longer. The latest, no bread as in the past and no salad as in the past. Steak serving is too large for me. At one time my steak came in 6, 8, and 10 oz proportions. I only needed the 6 at maximum. I'm guessing our visits will not be very often any longer.
We’ve been there for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it. We typically work Sundays and thought we would treat ourselves. It was amazing. From being greeted, Sam our waitress was awesome ! Food was to die for - lots of it and delicious!! Recommended fir anyone. We’ll be back! Not sure what to put fir noise level - but it was great. My husband wears a hearing aid and we were able to carry on a conversation
The food was great service even better (waitress was friendly , courteous and just plain nice) . We had a wonderful dinner celebrating our 40th anniversary . Would definitely go there again.
Our waitress never told us about specials or salads she also never asked if we wanted another drink she was nice just didn’t do her job
Amazing food and staff! Definitely a gem in the heart of the capital of the green mountain state. I have had business dinners and personal dinners at this location many times and have never been disappointed, A culinary experience not to be missed if you find yourself in the beautiful city of Montpelier.
Food was deliciously prepared, service was attentive. The restaurant was not very busy and there were open tables but we were sat squished too closely between two other tables.
Kayla, our server, was terrific.
Friendly, efficient & professional. She was comfortably attentive.
