J. Liu Restaurant & Bar of Worthington Ratings and Reviews
Had a 7:30 reservation. Arrived promptly, was told there were no tables available and it would be a bit of a wait. No problem. Told the receptionist we would be in the bar and have a drink and they could notify us when our table was available. Half hour goes by. Nothing. Go out and inform the receptionist we’re still waiting. Deer in the headlights . They scramble and promptly seat us at a table in the back of the bar area. Really? Asked to be reseated to a proper table in the dining area. The wait staff apologized and said a manager was all over it and we would be comped a drink for our troubles. Hour later from original reservation time were finally being seated. Ultimately nothing comped and the food was very mediocre. Worst Valentines meal ever. First and last time ever going to J. Lius.
I have been here several times but on Valentine’s Day I was a bit disappointed. Our waitress was not very attentive at all. She took forever to place our order then she got it wrong. She also had the wrong drink sent out and forgot my glass of wine order. To end on a very poor note she actually wished us a happy St. Patrick’s Day.
We had our Valentines dinner here on 2/14/18, and the short-story is that it was and is definitely a do-over. They were accommodating when we asked to be seated in another section (we didn't want to sit in the bar for dinner, although the bar is very nice). The menu had plenty of options, and the two entrees we selected (one chicken, the other beef) tasted very good (we shared) . Our waitress was a sweet-heart too. And when it was time to pay the bill I was not shocked with the price-tag, it was reasonable.
The brunch was pretty good with a couple of disappointments. The pasta salad had not a drip of dressing on it. The spicy chiken was not spicy at all, which is fine for me personally but if you want it to be spicy, well, it’s not. The prime rib, very gristly and the “horseradish” sauce was straight up sour cream, not a hit of horseradish taste at all. The guy manning the carving station repeatedly running his hands through his hair....downright gross.
Breana was absolutely AMAZING! Everything she recommended was perfect. Super professional, enthusiastic about her job and made you genuinely warm and welcome to be there. I will be sending everyone I know to see her. Truly an enjoyable Dining experience! Great Mussels, superb evening special and wonderful apple dessert. From the cheerful greeting at the door from the young ladies at the entrance to the fond farewell and thank you... J. Liu is a win! Great job!
We were limited with time and did get our food quickly; however the service overall was not good. Refills were slow and it took a lot of time for the waitress to take our order initially. The restaurant was almost empty so there was no excuse for the lag in service. Food was tasty.
We arrived just ahead of our lunch reservation time. There were no parking spaces in the parking lot. My guest went in to see what they recommended for parking. They suggested we parking in shopping center across route 23 (6 lanes/divided road/not near a cross signal). No valet option. They did not seem very concerned. So, unable to find a way to park to go to their restaurant we left. This place positions themselves as upscale. Located in a suburb they should be able to handle routine lunchtime parking. Prior experiences have been "just ok." Will never return.
Food and service was great but don’t sit in the bar if your hoping to have a conversation. It was so loud with dishes being dropped in the sink or somewhere! Repeatedly. And there was a large party that was incredibly loud. Very distracting for the evening. Drinks were full but watered down.
Some of the items on the website are not offered on the menu. It also seemed like things were priced higher for me than i thought they should have been when the bill came. The food amazing and the ambiance was very nice as well. I would recommend this place to someone else.
It was our first time dining here and we were extremely disappointed. The place was not crowded at all and it took someone over 15 minutes to greet us at our table after we sat down. The drinks took about 20+ minutes to make and came out after our appetizer. The food was less than mediocre and our meals were cold - they were presented by someone who literally dropped them off at the table (not even in front of us) and didn't say a word, they just walked away and didn't ask if we wanted anything else. It was very odd. One of the servers dropped my steak knife on the floor and picked it up, took it to the back and brought back the same knife absolutely dripping wet with water, not even dried off. If the restaurant was busy, I would have been a little more understanding but it was not crowded at all, there were so mant empty tables! I have heard good things about this place so I was eager to try and I have to say I will not be going back.
We went on NYE and we expected crazy crowds but it really wasn’t busy at all. However our service wasn’t amazing and since it was NYE they weren’t making any modifications to any dishes. I liked my dish (chicken Milanese) and my fiancé liked his too (filet medallions) but as we were leaving we both thought our dishes were overpriced for what they actually were. We want to go back again though and see if it was just the NYE shenanigans that brought it down for us or if it’s just not the place for us. We will be trying the Asian options next time too!
The menu does not offer anything spectacular. Food was very ordinary. The flavor lacked the depth- not what was expected. We ordered flourless chocolate mousse- it seemed to be brought right out of the freezer. It was as good as eating a frozen chocolate bar!! The waitress seemed occupied with other things. Her lack of keenness and warmth added another reason to our verdict -“Won’t be coming back a second time.”
We ate dinner a J. Liu Restaurant on New Year's Eve. We were seated promptly in a nice secluded booth as we'd requested. The waitress was very attentive and helpful. The appetizers, soup and cocktails were excellent. The entrees weren't quite as good as we'd expected and seemed overpriced to us.
There was a limited menu for NYE, and I think the kitchen was focused on speed and volume. It wasn’t quite as good as usual, but ordinarily the food is delicious. Mine was just cold and the steak was a little bland. My boyfriend’s Chicken Milanese was amazing, though.
