The sushi was some of the worst I’ve ever had, very disappointing. Server was fine. Overall decor inside was outdated.
This place used to be fantastic, but both this time and the last time I was there, it has not been as good. The food quality was mixed -- some dishes were outstanding, but some not. My salad came out with no dressing (or if there was any, it wasn't enough to really taste it). The salad also was full of water, probably from the lettuce. And the market price for the steak was ridiculous. Nevertheless, some of the entrees were excellent, as were two of the three deserts we ordered.
It was just ok. Nothing particularly bad or good. The fried shrimp appetizer was the best thing about the whole experience. The atmosphere was not bad and the noise level was acceptable. For some reason the hostess sat us in the bar area. That would not have been first choice. We had reservations and it looked like there was plenty of seating in the dining area so we are not sure why they sat us there. I think if we go back, we’ll go for drinks and the shrimp appetizer and we’ll sit at the bar where we can get consistent service, and who knows, we may try another appetizer too.
I ordered The Pas Thai entree with chicken, shrimp and beef. There was very little protein in the dish and the sauce was a soy sesame instead of peanut with chili. It twisted ok, but definitely not what I ordered.
Food was overpriced and somewhat mediocre, drinks (the strawberry and peach ones) sucked. Tasted like a knockoff lacroix. Faroe salmon plate was weird - flavors didn’t go together at all. Tuna stack was basically all seaweed salad, barely any tuna. It was dead for dinner service on a Saturday night, so I shouldn’t have been surprised.
Another wonderful experience at J.Liu. The food was delicious, as always , and the service was excellent.
Looking fwd to the next time…
You can always count on great food and great service at J'Liu's. They also have a great outdoor patio and a great happy hour with excellent choices of discounted drinks and food.
Max as our server was great, however, we tried to eat and get service in the bar first—and that was awful. Bartender had a major attitude and was being very vocal about how customers weren’t checking in with the hostess first but rather just walking straight to the bar. He seemed like he was having a really bad day.
Almost like he was on the verge of a meltdown: maybe overwhelmed due to not enough staff?
Either way, there two men sitting next to us at the bar and they even made a comment to us about the way the bartender was treating us.
When we realized our experience at the bar was going to be horrible we decided to eat in dining room.
Max was our server and he was awesome! Great service from him so it made up for the awful service or lack of service from the bartender. I think his name was Chris.
Food was awesome, too!
I ordered the chicken parmesan which was fantastic. My friend ordered sesame chicken and she said it was delicious. Our salads were equally good. The server was very pleasant and efficient. As always, a dining experience at J. Liu's!
We find the decor confusing-childlike wallpaper with crayon on the wall, paper lanterns…
Chicken Parmesan was excellent. Great service. Highly recommend
Overall very good and good service. The poor bartender was slammed but still gave us good attention to detail in service.
Excellent service, ambiance, food. Our out of state friends were also delighted.
Food & service tasteless (salad watery and no taste) service rude
Not what we thought at all it was loud and server was very slow.
Service was great. Food was fast.
My daughter and I ordered chicken fried rice and there was a lot of uncooked or hard rice in our meal.
Great Food and Service
Wonderful atmosphere whether quiet dining room or the social area of the bar area. Food is delicious and presentation adds to the dining experience.
Good food, good service. Always enjoyable.
We booked using Open Table for outside seating. Our confirmation was for outside seating. We arrive 10 minutes early for our reservation and we’re told that the only table available was in full sun without an umbrella. What? We were quickly informed that our reservation was not guaranteed outside but was a request. I’d like to inform the restaurant if that’s the case, then set up Open Table to reflect that! Other restaurants in the area that don’t guarantee outdoor seating do not allow reservations for that and do not send out notifications that outside seating has been reserved. No umbrella and beating down sun isn’t what anyone imagines. The flippant and rude hostess and the manager who set this up incorrectly aren’t appreciated by us. The service inside the bar was horrid. Water refills were non existent and the food took forever. I won’t be back. This used to be a decent restaurant. People with Father’s Day reservations may want to reconsider.
Appetizers and Sushi were excellent. We had Chicken Parm which was really good. But the Pad Thai did not have a lot of flavor.
Some of the entrees were pricey.
And the restaurant decor could use a refresh. I would go back.
Great service ! Delicious food!
Our primary complaint was with our server. We felt extremely rushed from beginning to end. We indicated we just wanted to enjoy our drinks for a few minutes and he came back twice to get our orders. Once we ordered it seemed the food came back immediately. When we finished eating, he offered dessert, which we declined and then brought our checks. No one indicated we had to leave right then and we did stay for at least another half hour, during which time no one ever returned for anything. Every single glass on the table wAs empty. It was as if he was trying to leave. Food wise, most enjoyed their meal but the chicken Parmesan was very dry and needed seasoning. Not sure that we will return any time soon.
My oldest son always asks for J Liu's when it's his turn to pick a restaurant. He was disappointed that the desserts aren't made on site anymore and that the amazing potatoes with his filet were replaced by wasabi mashed potatoes. But, everything is always tasty and we always have outstanding service. They change up the menu to keep things exciting so sometimes your favs are gone but you find a new one.
We chose to sit in the bar area so the noise level was more than in the restaurant, but we could still carry on a conversation. The service was excellent even though they appeared to be short staffed. Dodd is always good
Had a table by the bar. The service was excellent from the bartender even though she had to serve others on the bar. Like the variety of food options. Loved the poke and sushi.
It was great as usual except it was very warm in the bar area this evening!
Ya know, when you walk into a restaurant maskless at 6:00 p.m. on June 1 - and the ONLY people around are 2 of your 5 guests, and the "hostess" challenges an old, white haired lady "ARE YOU VACCINATED?" that the night is off on the wrong foot. Thanks be to God I resisted the urge to let her know that SHE HAD NO BUSINESS asking me that question! Yes - I was incensed! My reply "Of course" was not complete. "Of course - I was completely vaccinated by the time I was TEN!" I was at Polaris Grill for lunch on Saturday. No mask - no question - no challenge. As with Pat & Gracie's on E. Gay St. where our temperatures were taken as well as my girlfriend's name and phone number, it will be a cold day in a hot place before I return this J Liu's. Oh - the lack of menu's just added to my anger! It was an embarrassment as I was hosting an out-of-town guest!
The food was fantastic! The Crab Rangoon and crispy chicken salad was so good! The service was not great. Our server was waiting on a large table and we had to wait quite a long time. The manager finally came over and offered to take our order. This is the second time we have had a bad experience with service.
Service was extremely slow. Staff not knowledgeable about the menu at all.
We enjoyed our meal and cocktails. Loved the salad and
My cousin and I had a good time. She ordered a drink that was not up to her taste. The Boise level was high. We were still able to talk.
While the atmosphere was phenomenal and the food superb, the waitress was very neglectful. It felt as if she was intentionally ignoring us as she tended to the table next to us 6 times and did not bother to take the 3 steps to our table to see if we needed anything, if our food was alright, etc. It was clear the table next to us were either regulars or a friend of hers. Thankfully other staff members did check in on us. The waitress made us feel so bad that we actually asked someone if we did something to offend her. The who purpose for us going was not only to celebrate my daughters last day of High School but to see if this would be where we will be treating a group of 20 folks after the official graduation ceremony. We definitely would have made arrangements if selecting purely on the facility and taste; however, this is not the service I want to share with our family and friends or to celebrate my daughters achievements.
Food was good. Service was slow perhaps because our server was also the bartender. Entrance was dirty. Bar floor was sticky.
Excellent food and beverages in a comfortable atmosphere. Service was poor, seemingly inexperienced waitstaff? Very slow, inattentive server. Appetizer dishes still littered the table when the entrees were brought out.
Every member of the staff I interacted with seemed annoyed with our presence. The food was good, but the servers obvious aggravation with us, the seating being undesirable, and the manager asking us to leave because they were closing an hour early made the experience less than ideal.
It was not crowded. Our server was rude. He poured my beer and got it all over the table and didn't even clean it up. When I asked for a napkin to clean up he came back with a cloth napkin and swiped the spill onto the floor. My space on the table was still wet.
