The buffet seemed off today. It is usually very good but this day had no hot brown casserole, the salmon was cold and slightly over cooked and the pork chops were thin and hard. On the dessert table the caramel glaze for the bread pudding was so cold and thick the entire bowl would be lifted when you tried to lift the spoon. We will be going there again, it jus seemed an off day.
We stopped for lunch on 12/8 and ordered the hot brown. It was delicious and our server was excellent. I think his name was Brian?
Enjoyed the Christmas decor. Sandwich was good but soup was lukewarm when served.
Woderful, it is just a great place to meet for lunch. Everything from the salads to the main course entrees and sides were terrific. However, the desserts are the stars of the show. The pastry chef is on top of their game. Your drink is included in the very reasonable price of $20. Oh, not to forget, valet parking is also included.
Chose the Café for our monthly luncheon to celebrate the Christmas season. I had the Hot Brown. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The dish itself warm and cool in spots. The sauce was more like a paste than a sauce. I did not finish the dish, and it was not tasty enough to bother to take home the leftovers. I have had many Hot Browns around Louisville, much better than this one. Two of my friends had the Kale salad. The liked it overall, however, the stems on the kale were difficult to eat. It would seem that on a item such as that, the stems would be removed. Love the ambiance of J. Graham's Café, our waitress was exceptional, but the food left much to be desired. We will probably come again, but definitely choose different menu items.
The Hot Brown is one of the best things I've ever eaten! (And probably one of the most fattening.)
Service and food are excellent! The hot brown is a must. Can't wait to go back
Family Christmas annual luncheon with cousins. Always a special time for us. Our service and food were wonderful. Needs for a blind member were met nicely. We will be back!
we chose J Graham's Cafe for Thanksgiving dinner; the food was outstanding as was the service; definitely would return and recommend; service was spot on
Excellent Thanksgiving Brunch...Staff and Food were wonderful!
This was for a small family brunch on Thanksgiving
My good friend and I live in different cities and met in Louisville to celebrate her birthday. We love the Brown Hotel and J. Graham’s Cafe did not disappoint. From beginning to end our experience was perfect. The atmosphere is quiet, relaxed and beautifully decorated. Our service was excellent from host/hostess to wait staff. We were well looked after without being hovered over and we were not at all rushed. The seafood chowder was rich and flavorful without being overly heavy (we shared a bowl). Our Hot Browns were the original recipe, hot and huge. We were given take-out boxes. We each brought home at least half of our sandwich. An unexpected and very generous touch was a complimentary dessert for 2 (Derby Pie). The coffee was full bodied and delicious as well. I highly recommend J. Graham’s Cafe. Valet parking is complimentary for 2 hours as well. After lunch we shopped in the gift shop and had a leisurely walk around the hotel.
J Graham's Cafe is located on the first floor of the historic Brown hotel in Louisville Kentucky. For breakfast or lunch it's a daytime Travelers Paradise as far as food goes one thing, is the hot brown imitated by many shared by thousands invented at the hotel in 1925 however if your taste buds are more toward the Lighter Side they have plenty of menu items to make you a very happy Diner. The other thing the brown Hotel does very well is they instill their staff to provide excellent guest service; to be ladies and gentlemen who serve ladies and gentlemen. From pouring wine at the table to responding "it's my pleasure" when it actually is their pleasure to be a service. If you've not been to the Brown if you've not been to J. Grahams treat yourself and go
Had reservations at 1:30 pm. Arrived at 12:30 pm and was seated without a wait. Wife had buffet; I had ala carte. Both were great. Service was courteous and attentive. Enjoyed the dining experience.
The food and the service were both outstanding. Everyone from the hostess to our server to the manager seemed truly interested in being sure that we were having a great experience. Everything was first rate.
Out of town family and friends had to have The Famous Hot Brown Experience! There were six in our group on a beautiful Sunday. The Hot Brown did not disappoint! Server was very was friendly. We enjoyed a wonderful window table. Definitely will be a tradition when they return
Wonderful Sunday brunch. Nice room, great quality and variety of food, excellent service. Highly recommended.
When in Louisville you MUST have a Hot Brown, and the only place to have a Hot Brown is J Grahams!
A must historical site, hot brown was awesome. Amy was our gracious host. Very enjoyable brunch.
"Hot Brown" OMG!!!! I am from this area and it is the first time I've had a hot brown. I can't believe I've been so close to absolute perfection all these years. I've honestly NEVER had anything so good. Best food ever. Great service and atmosphere. Very friendly staff. A must go to. Thank you
Enjoyed our visit. Food was very good. We had the hot brown sandwich. Service was excellent. Ambiance was great.
Enjoyed Breakfast on Breeder's Cup Saturday. Enjoyed it immensely. Hot Brown done the right way !! Others enjoyed buffet, omelets and more. A Louisville Must.
I was terribly disappointed as I had heard good reviews of the hotel and thought we would try the cafe for lunch. I had to ask for rolls then request a plate in which to eat them, my salad was delivered without dressing and felt like an imposition to the staff at any request that I made. Would not recommend the hotel and definitely not the cafe
Meh. I should have had the Hot Brown!! The eggs Benedict was just meh. Would go back for sure.
Having stayed at the Brown the evening before it was an easy decision to have breakfast and the buffet. In hindsight when you go to the Brown you should order what they are famous for - The Hot Brown! The buffet breakfast was just average tho the biscuits and gravy were amazing. Meats were over done - even the pork loin on the carving station. Best item on the pastry bar was definitely the bread pudding. Service was very good but for $82 plus tax and tip I would do what every other diner there was doing if I return and order the Hot Brown.
We have been here several times, this was by far the most disappointing visit. If it were not for the hostess and the managerial staff, I would have given service a 1 star. We arrived at 10 am. The omelet and carving station were not yet staffed. It took until at least 10:15 for that station to be open. I was not impressed with my server and the few others who were helping. As I mentioned, the managers were the only saving grace for the service that morning. We have never been disappointed in our service, in fact we are normally impressed, but not that day. I say I would recommend because we normally enjoy their Sunday brunch. If we go again and have a repeat of this last visit, then we will not be back again.
First time to Louisville and The Brown Hotel is an absolute must! The Hot Brown lived up to expectations and the mornay sauce was superb! Our server, Angie, suggested we split it and we appreciated her suggestion. Very memorable experience!
We chose this restaurant for the famous "hot brown" sandwich. It was delicious but at $20 for a sandwich, I think charging $6 to split the sandwich was too much.
Fabulous friendly service. Outstanding food. Crafted cocktails. Gorgeous surroundings. Convenient parking. Reasonable pricing. Did I mention the unbelievably fabulous, personalized service by every person we interacted with? Great job Brown Hotel!
Let's be honest: everyone goes to J. Graham's for the hot brown. If you get the hot brown, it's great, 5 stars all the way. If you don't get the hot brown, however, it's a different story. My spouse got the hot brown, I got some pasta dish. It was not good. The pasta and veggies were swimming in a bland cream sauce that made the entire dish unappetizing. I barely ate any and did not take any leftovers home. My spouse's hot brown was GREAT. Also, big thumbs up on them using Harney and Sons tea. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and the service was very friendly and prompt. A little expensive, especially for lunch.
Stevie was an energetic and wonderful server! She took great care of us without having to rush around.
The Hot Brown definitely tasted the best out of any Hot Brown that I have tasted
Wonderful food. Dont worry about the calories. You arent going to eat here every day. Bloody Marry - best ever. Hot Brown? Awesome. Sunday Brunch Buffet is flawless.
The only place to go for a "real" and original Hot Brown when visiting Louisville. Only available for brunch or lunch. Excellent, old style Southern setting, service and hospitality in a classic hotel.
The service was outstanding, everyone was so nice and hospitable. We went to have the "original hot brown", which was definitely big enough to share with someone.
I had a wonderful time. My Hot Brown was excellent! I hope to go back again someday.
Do read the menu thoroughly, my husband did a quick read and was surprised with a glaze he could not eat. The waitress did notice him not eating and offered him another meal.
Excellent experience and delicious food! Amazing in every way!!
The restaurant was overcrowded at Sunday brunch. The floors were littered with food and the service was very slow. We had to wait 15 mins for a table even though we had reservations. That being said, the chef at the omlette station was wonderful and I really enjoyed the eggs.
Fantastic food as always. Nothing beats their "Hot Brown". Service was excellent.
J Graham's was wonderful! We drove from Cincinnati for a birthday celebration so my friend could enjoy a real "Hot Brown". Immediately, they asked about who was having the birthday! Service was impeccable!Beside the Hot Brown, we also experienced the buffet. Everything was very fresh and delicious. For dessert the birthday girl received a complementry derby pie with a "Happy Birthday" chocolate.
