J Graham's Cafe
Have to have the Hot Brown!!! Absolutely delicious. Great service too!
You must have the Hot Brown and Derby Pie! Love that they give the recipe for the Hot Brown but I know mine won’t compare.
My fiancé and I were visiting from out of town and had a fabulous brunch date! I couldn’t decide between the amazing buffet or a Hot Brown ( which I have never had). Chef Arkan Bajalani overheard my dilemma and he offered a wonderful solution. He suggested I order the buffet so I could try the incredible delectable desserts and lobster corn and bourbon maple pork roast, and he would bring me a piping hot fresh bowl of his latest creation: Hot Brown Pasta! It was a perfect solution and such a great surprise. Chef Arkan went out of his way to make our date memorable and special along with the rest of the incredibly attentive staff! Thank you so much! Southern hospitality at its finest !
Went for A Sunday breakfast (wife wanted their famous Hot Brown). Food expertly prepared and Regina, our server, was excellent. Highly recommend at any time but certainly great for a relaxed Sunday morning outing.
Beautiful hotel. Go early or stay late to look around at the history and the historical pieces near the entrance. Service was great!
I MUST SAY THAT THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE OVER ALL ,FROM THE YOUNG LADY VALET TO THE LOVELY SMILE HOSTESS TO OUR SERVER REGINA,SHE IS GREAT & ENTHUSIASTIC WHICH OLD FOLKS SO ENJOY. THE DECOR AND SURROUNDING WAS BRIGHT AND PLEASING TO THE EYE. THE ONLY THING IF I HAD T/ O SAY SOMETHING SOMEWHAT NEGATIVE, WAS OUR TABLE WAS BEHIND A PILLAR AND WE WERE KINDA ISOLATED BUT DIDN'T AFFECT THE EXPERIENCE VERY MUCH. THANK YOU AND WE W ILL BE BACK!
Famous for being the birthplace of the Hot Brown, their version does not disappoint. Creamy, rich, and decadent, slices of turkey and bacon over toast, smothered with a Mornay sauce with Parmesan cheese, with tomato halves to bring some needed acidity. The $20 price point is fair, given its fame (other places in town are a few bucks cheaper). The ambiance is far more Old World elegant and refined than the pictures suggest. Staff is all smiles and friendly throughout, exemplifying that famous Southern charm.
great food, services and always good to be downtown at the Brown.
Had to have the famous Hot Brown. Disappointed. Two huge hunks of roasted turkey smothered in a thick Morney sauce topped with more cheese. Not what I expected.
The staff was super friendly. The Hot Brown was yummy. It was sweet of our server to give us a free dessert for our birthday!
Biscuits were cold . Limited selection for the price . Did not have some basic condiments such as jelly .
I would not return .
Overall a disappointment in view of the hype. Serve coffee which was bitter and only lukewarm.
Many of the but they items were lukewarm. Somewhat strange items offered for a Sunday buffet.
Omelette Chef was too busy talking and got my order incorrect. Pastry choice was excellent. Limited fruit choices.
Fully recommendable. Service was outstanding and food was really great as well. Hot brown specialty deserves a visit to this place
We took our family out to brunch when my parents were in town to give them a classic Louisville experience and was not disappointed. The food was excellent and the service was impeccable. Our server's timing and understanding of those diners eating off the menu for The Hot Brown vs those of us eating the brunch buffet made the meal that much more enjoyable. Highly recommend when entertaining out of town guests.
The atmosphere is great. The service is excellent and so is the wait staff. Bartender makes the best Old Fashion anywhere. And unless you have had a Hot Brown here, you have not had a Hot brown!
the filipino staff was amazing and friendly
Although I've lived in Louisville my entire life, I've never had a hot brown at the Brown Hotel. That changed this week and it was worth every penny. Treat yourself (and your friends/family) to this wonderful meal....you won't be sorry! The hot brown was perfect in every way!
The Brown Hotel is so lovely!
Excellent! We come every time! Food was great and service was excellent
Had to try hot brown sandwich where it was invented and it far exceeded my expectations. Also tried a bourbon flight. The hostess even brought me a recipe for the sandwich. It was a wonderful experience.
Our Sunday brunch experience was during the cafe’s move upstairs, and I imagine that things were not “as usual.” However, with as many staff and managers (3) running around, the service was chaotic and non-existent, except for the omelet station.
Nobody came to take drink orders once we were seated. They ran out of plates for a while. We had to go up to the bar 3 separate times to get water refills after waiting some time and trying to flag multiple people down. After the second water refill, which the bartender seemed not to think was unusual, I noted what was happening to her. She came and apologized and made sure we didn’t have to wait forever for the check as other guests were having to do, but no customer service recovery was done. And we eventually had to walk the credit card up and sign at the bar, because 2 managers and a couple of servers kept walking by without looking anywhere in particular and didn’t notice the raised-in-my-hand check and card.
The poor quality of service ruined what might otherwise have been a nice Sunday brunch experience.
While visiting Louisville, we went to try the original hot brown - it was delicious! A few tried the lunch Buffett which had flank steak, fish, pasta, salad, bread pudding and lots of mini desserts. It was all tasty. Our server was kind, friendly and welcoming.
A Louisville Gem!
Absolutely a must for any Kentuckian or out of town guest to experience the birthplace of the Original Hot Brown! Delicious! The Sunday brunch buffet is an excellent value with abundance of options. Will go back.
Great food, good atmosphere. Planning to go back soon.
My wife and I took a visiting couple from Florida to J Graham's Café so they could try their famous Hot Brown. The food was excellent. We all enjoyed the lunch. We arrived near the end of their lunch period but they did not rush us at all. It was a good experience!
So.... a member of our party was ‘not feeling well’ but tried to eat anyway. One plate of 2 strips of bacon, one biscuit. One bite and she knew she couldn’t eat!! She asked the waitress for a glass of ginger ale. The waitress asked if this was for an upset stomach and the reply was yes. The waitress suggested ginger beer and the recommendation was accepted. Now... a true 5 star restaurant would NOT have charged the guest the THIRTY TWO DOLLARS for the buffet!!! Oh... and the Hit Brown was ‘off the mark’ that day!!
Ambiance was fabulous, staff is professional, courteous and very attentive, the food is absolutely delicious especially the hot brown.
Our server Andrea was AMAZING! Food of course is perfect.
Hot brown was awesome! Only negative was they were setting up brunch buffet for the next day during Saturday’s lunch.
The hot browns were amazing! Well worth the trip and the wait. Great, friendly staff and a great old world ambiance. The hotel is historic and steeped in tradition. The staff is more than happy to share their knowledge of the history both of the building and the hot brown creation.
The Hot Brown was delicious, as was the Derby Pie. The staff was friendly and the service was exceptional.
Delicious and wonderful! The Hot Brown did not disappoint.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Wonderful food, atmosphere and the staff were so gracious! Would highly recommend!
Overall enjoyable experience. We were very disappointed that we ordered the fried clams which turned out to be clam strips, I felt that they were falsely advertised. Also, the lobster mac and cheese wasn’t as good as it could have been.
The Sunday Brunch was highly recommended, and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, and there was a nice variety of items on the buffet. The smoked salmon was very fresh, both the flat-iron steak and the carving-station pork loin was cooked to perfection, and the presentation was lovely. The server at the omelette station was extremely nice and helpful. A pleasure to talk with. The woman at the hostess stand was great as well. Very friendly and welcoming. The only reason for the 4-star review is that our waitress was basically non-existent.
Once we were seated, and our water glasses filled, no one came to take our drink orders, despite the fact that my daughter turned her coffee cup upside down and I had mine right-side up. Since menu items were available as well as the buffet, our waitress should have confirmed that we did want to eat from the buffet tables; but despite our having menus in-hand, still no one stopped by to determine our preference or take drink orders. I finally told my daughter we would go ahead and serve ourselves from the buffet, and that hopefully a server would be by to take our drink orders when we returned to our seats. Unfortunately, this was not the case.
The manager was walking past and stopped
to chat, so I asked him if I could please get some coffee and my daughter an orange juice. He was very apologetic that no one had been by our table at all since the hostess seated us, and he quickly returned to fill my coffee cup and bring my daughter juice. Despite my witnessing his discussion with a waitress immediately after bringing our drinks, she still never inquired about refills or even brought our bill. I had to go to the hostess station to see if we were supposed to pay her directly. We weren’t, but she assured us she would take care of the situation. A waitress came by with our bill quickly afterwards.
An otherwise great dining experience, slightly marred by poor wait-staff service. Hopefully, this isn’t the norm.
Great ambiance and excellent food! We were there for Sunday brunch and it was delicious. Giita have the Hot Brown!!! Yummy!
Food was good. Service left some to be desired. Drinks empty multiple times. Nice environment.
Our server and one in training were so kind. The food was fabulous, and my son was surprised by the birthday Derby Pie!
Thank you Angela and Andrea for making us feel special and welcomed. You both were on top of our order, drinks and food delivery. Thank you!
The Hotel is lovely, and we had a good experience as we met long time friends we had not seen in years. We were shown a brunch menu, without a price and we didn’t question it as we had read on your website a price of $38.00. My husband and I chose the buffet and were somewhat taken aback at the $56 per head charge. While it was nice, it is far from the best I’ve seen. I felt it was overpriced.
