J. Gilbert’s – Wood Fired Steaks & Seafood - Worthington Ratings and Reviews
We love J Gilberts for special occasions. In December, our anniversary is 2 days away from my husbands birthday. We call it "birth-a-versary" We love it celebrate at J Gilberts. On 12/6 we had bone in strip steaks and our waiter was the best! He really added to the experience - allowing us time to enjoy our cocktails before the main course. Memorable experience! Thank you!!
This is definitely an upscale restaurant. Therefore, the price is what I consider high, but compared to other similar eateries, the price is comparable or slightly under competitor prices. The food is excellent. The ambiance varies as to where you are seated. Overall, this is a favorite of mine.
Overall, our food was good. Mine food was excellent, but my husband's food came out with the wrong sides, but it was corrected right away. His steak, however, was cold. Our service left a lot to be desired. Our waiter was very inattentive(at least until it was time for us to pay our check) and he would disappear for minutes at a time. We had to wait on drinks, bread, our food and our desserts (even though we ordered them in advance and requested them to go). When we went to have our desserts we found that my husband had received the wrong thing, again... We like the restaurant and have been here several times but have had a bad experience now with the same waiter twice. Not sure we will go back and try again, especially for the money we spend.
We had a great Thanksgiving experience. The menu featured a great Thanksgiving dinner with Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Cranberry Relish... as well as the regular slate of great steaks and seafood. The restaurant was very busy but everybody was cordial, kind and prompt. Another great experience at J. Gilbert's.
This was the first time my family decided to eat out for Thanksgiving and there were some initial concerns about missing our traditional meal. By the end of the meal, everyone was full, happy with absolute no stress to clean up a kitchen. I’d do it again in a heart beat!
As far as food is concerned, J. Gilbert's knocked it out of the ballpark with the desserts.
The main course was plentiful but undistinguished (this was Thanksgiving, and these
were the turkey dinners).
The waiter was excellent, but the waitress clearing dishes would have been more at
home serving a crowd of beer drinkers.
Ambiance: no table cloth. No windows. Tables were reasonably spaced, but there was
really nothing to look at.
Our party of five enjoyed an excellent Thanksgiving dinner a J Gilbert's. Our waiter was experienced, but apparently new at the restaurant. His service was very good; however, he made a serious error on the bill, charging us full price on a Thanksgiving dinner special. This was eventually straightened out by the manager, which satisfied us. We still recommend J Gilbert's to others.
I was very disappointed. This has been our go-to place for Occasions. We got there early and had a drink. When we went to get our table they were going to put us at a table directly in line with the door (we had sat there before and knew this). Then we were taken to a table in the back gulag where there was a family with small children. We walked out and went to Eddie Merlots and they treated us VERY well. I may come back for Finest Hour in the bar but I will NOT be back for dinner.
If you’re going to charge the prices for a prime steak house, you have to play the part. That means the oysters can’t be all shell and no oyster, the bar staff has to be attentive and the servers can’t be one rung below Flo from the local diner. This place disappoints on all levels. And vacuuming while people are dining?? Mel wouldn’t even have done that!
This is the best steak in Columbus. Better than Hyde Park or Smith and Wilensky or The Palm (not in Cbus). Sides are amazing, sauces are a great add, the food value to the dollar is very acceptable. I’ve been to steak places across the country and the grilling that they do here is amazing.
JGibert's is a consistent winner for good wine selection, outstanding food and professional,
friendly service in a romantic setting. When we go on Sundays we always ask for Mercedes as our wait staff who is excellent in providing service and a sense of hospitality.
This was the first time that we’ve ever been to J Gilbert’s and not had a fantastic experience. It has been one of our favorites for over 10 years, but on this night it was not the experience we’ve become accustomed. The seating was too tight and I had multiple servers hit and bump my chair. It took over 10 minutes for us to be greeted and over 15 to get drinks. My steak was not medium well vs medium rare which I always order. My wife’s scallops were tonight. In short, we will give it another try and chalk it up to a bad night. But, that maybe our last try if we have a similar experience.
