We had a great experience for our son's birthday. Appreciate being put in a private space so that we can socialize. Food and atmosphere were impeccable. Also loved our server.
Food was good but it didn’t feel like a special experience for the prices. Not sure if I will be coming back again. Host and staff seemed more interested in watching tv at bar then engaging with guests. Our server was attentive though.
Four of us went to dinner last evening at this restaurant. All of us had exceptional meals. The service was good. I did not start to get crowded until we were ready to leave so we had ample time to relax and have our meal. We have not been to J Gilberts for a couple of years due to the pandemic and we were very pleased with how everything was similar to the way we were there the last time.
Cozy atmosphere with the feeling of a long running successful restaurant. The food and the service are top notch. Definitely a keeper on the list of favorites
This was our first visit to J. Gilbert's and we were really looking forward to an upscale date night. Upon entrance, the woman working the front desk didn't speak, didn't smile, didn't make eye contact - I walked up, said hi, gave her our name and reservation time, she printed out a ticket, handed it to someone and didn't utter a word- she looked positively miserable. I honestly don't think this has ever happened anywhere we've ever dined - the hostesses at Bob Evans have better manners. Oh and I knew she wasn't smiling cause she wasn't wearing a mask, even though both Worthington and Columbus have a mask mandate. My bourbon cocktail was chock full of crushed ice - like the kind they put in McDonalds drinks - and the drink was clear - um, shouldn't a bourbon drink have at least a little brown? When the waiter asked if I wanted another, I said no and told him why and to his credit, he did bring me a complimentary glass of wine. I ordered the filet and crab cake combo - crab cake was very good, filet was just ok, au gratin potatoes were very good, brussel sprouts were so hard they were inedible. My husband's sirloin was flavorless and the rest of his meal was nothing special. I hate to write a bad review of a local restaurant, but for the prices they charge, this place really left us disappointed. To spend over $100 on dinner for 2, I want it to be more than just "eh". We will not return and I would not recommend.
Always a great dining ecxpierence Will go back one more time soon!
It was wonderful!!! There were 8 of us celebrating a birthday. It couldn’t have been better!!!
We were celebrating my Birthday. The Waiter was very personable, plus he had knowledge of the menu. We both got the filet, crab cake, green beans, and augraten potatoes. Then we received a free dessert of chocolate cake. We were very happy with the service and delicious food. Therefore, we will definitely go back again and advise everyone to attend this MARVELOUS RESTAURANT!!!
Everything was very good except for the size of the oysters which were very small.
Celebrated our son's birthday. Steaks and ribs were excellent. Lobster Mac & Cheese and Creamed Corn with Bacon were perfect sides.
Our server was awesome!
Perfect every time! Always my go to!
We had reservations and arrived a few minutes early. The hostess informed us with a snotty attitude she would seat us in a few minutes. While we were standing there a lady walked in and said she needed a table for 4, then noticed we were standing there and told the hostess to go ahead and take care of us first. The hostess told the lady no I'm having them wait, you are our special guest. After we got sat our server Jackson finally came over. I tried to order a lemonade only to be told they do not sell lemonade. My husband ordered a mountain dew and he told my husband very good and walked away. After about 20 minutes we got his attention to remind him about my husband's drink and had to remind him what it was, he then proceeded to tell us they do not sell mountain dew. I ordered the turkey dinner special and told him I only wanted the turkey and mashed potatoes, he said no problem. My plate came out with everything on it. Tried to order the cream corn and bacon only to be told they were out. At the end of the meal showed Jackson a coupon on my phone I had to use. It had no exclusions anyway on it. After he came back he said they were not taking it because of the holiday. Asked if we wanted to talk to a manage and we said yes. The managers attitude was horrible. He even made a point of saying ok what else after I pointed out everything that was wrong and proceeded to ask "Did we do anything right?" He had an excuse for everything we pointed out. This was our first and very last time of eatting here. There are so many other nice restaurants to choose from in Columbus.
One of our favorite places. Great steak, seafood and the Maytag Bleu Cheese Chips. A little slow since it was very busy on Thanksgiving, but we were in no hurry. Staff is always very friendly.
We understand that Thanksgiving threw a wrench in their day-to-day operations and we are happy to wait as long as there is communication. We sat and watched as tables around us got bread; it was never offered to us. My salad finally came; I asked for more bleu cheese dressing as it was fairly sparse. I'm still waiting on that, now that I think about it. We sat for a very very long time without being checked on, without any communication, and finally, the manager came out bearing plates.
Unfortunately, one of them had the wrong food on it. I said, "Nope, not us," but actually the other plate was my friend's meal. We learned later that the kitchen somehow mixed up half of our ticket with another table. We waited again, but the server said he was bringing us a complimentary appetizer. He didn't ask us what we wanted, though, and out came a shrimp cocktail. Luckily neither of us has a shellfish or seafood allergy, but neither of us likes shrimp cocktail.
The steaks finally came, but the sides were still wrong. The manager said he would just bring us extra of the ones we ordered, which took longer than it should have - and I still had no bleu cheese butter for my steak or any bread for the table. He halfheartedly promised us that they were coming.
They did come, and while the bread was piping hot, my steak was fine but not hot and certainly not the out-of-this-world experience I'd hoped for. My friend said her Brussel Sprouts were good. We both enjoyed the potatoes.
Our checks also came out wrong; I had two steaks on mine and even though they comped most of the meal, it just didn't seem as they could get anything right. They tried to put another free shrimp cocktail on the table, and we just had to laugh.
Finally, The manager came back, fixed the bills, and then no one rang us out until I loudly got the server's attention. He said he thought we were already gone. We should have never come to begin with.
I hate giving negative reviews, but this was bad.
Not worth the price tag. Food was basic . The service was great
Had their Thanksgiving meal and it was very unseasoned. Asked for bread 3 times but never received any. They poured me a chilled wine in a hot glass, so I had to add ice to it. The only good thing was the dessert.
It took over 2 hours between sitting down and getting the check. Food was seriously sub par compared to prior experiences. Food was cold and we were permitted to order things that we were later told were cut. Server was friendly and professional but food and time between ordering and delivery just didn’t match up. Very disappointing.
The temperature in restaurant was so hot we felt like we were baking. Seated next to the kitchen and had to smell dish/mop water the whole dinner. Food was just ok. Will not be returning.
We dined at J. Gilberts on Thanksgiving Day. Although the restaurant was very busy the wait staff were very attentive and the food was outstanding. We always have a great experience at J. Gilberts in Columbus, Ohio.
I enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving feast this this year at J Gilbert’s. I have never had anything less than an outstanding experience at this restaurant.
Thanksgiving was excellent
Waiter was fabulous
Waiter was very attentive even though he had other customers to serve
Atmosphere was nice wasn't overly
loud you could hear people at your table
Delicious food, excellent service and nice environment for Thanksgiving Day.
Relaxing atmosphere, excellent service and food.
Great food, great service!
Great Thanksgiving dinner and the wait staff was very personable!
We had not been back to J. Gilberts since Covid. What a treat and hidden gem still. We asked to sit in the bar to watch a game. The bartender was our waiter and he was wonderful! Attentive, funny, personable. The food was superb. Overall it was a great experience and a terrific dinner with family.
This is our place for birthday celebrations! Such a great place—food is one of a kind!
I eat there quit often
It was good but not great. Although I have eaten at this location and it’s normally very good.
If you love smoked meats, and wood tempered taste, this is the place to go. We have a great time. Will definitely be back!
Food and service were both outstanding. Would definitely return if we come back to area again
Hadn't been here in a few years. Came back to the exact same restaurant. Seems a little outdated now. The little lamps on the tables need to be replaced. Ours was torn and quite dirty. Tables need some work. Luckily the food quality was still what I expected. Steak was perfect. Tasted amazing with the wood fired flavor. Sides were excellent as well. Always loved this restaurant, it's time to do a simple remodel though.
Our first time to dine at J Gilbert’s. We will definitely make a return visit. The atmosphere was relaxing & intimate. Our server was fabulous. Food was very good.
Delicious as always. I usually get a filet but went with Sea bass today and it was heavenly. I have never had a bad experience here and this is our favorite restaurant for a nice meal
pretty nice all together ..only little gripe was baked potato came loaded instead of just butter
My wife and I wanted to take our son out for dinner for his 35th birthday. I made reservations for 3 at 5:45, unknown to me his two children were also coming. When we got there even though they were overbooked, they sat us at a table for six in a semi private room for dinner! The food was excellent, the service was superb and we could not have been happier with our decision to eat at J Gilbert's Wood Fired Steaks & Seafood. We will absolutely go back for dinner!!!
I have been a customer of Gilbert’s for over twenty years and unfortunately felt last night was underwhelming. The service was outstanding, but the crab soup was lukewarm and the steak was not as good as it typically is. The steak was slightly over cooked, I ordered it medium rare and the quality/flavor just seemed a little substandard for a $61 dinner plate. The crab cake was outstanding as normal. We tipped the server well and didn’t bring this to the servers attention because we realize it’s a tight labor market. but we thought it best to provide an honest survey.
Food came out Luke warm. Had to send back one of the meals because it was cold. Device wasn’t as good as it normally is. Had to track down the server to send the food back. Food took longer than normal.
Just an average experience all around. Food was not as good I remembered from years past. Overall nothing to write home about for the price.
