My farewell dinner with the family as we are split between two cities. Food was perfect as always and service was EXCELLENT! Will be back when I come back to town.
Wonderful date night experience. Our server was very good and the fireplace was a nice touch.
Something has happened to J. Gilbert's.....
Prices remain high and service is attentive but the food quality and presentation seems to have deteriorated over the last few months.
My 8oz. filet mignon was served unadorned and looking like something I'd get from Texas Roadhouse; flat piece of steak rather than cylindrical shape I've come to expect from this cut. A few stalks of asparagus with some non-descript tomato garnish were placed alongside. Definitely not a $42 plate of food.
My two dinner guests had steak and scallops selected from the "Prixe Fixe" menu; one from the $48 tier (4oz. filet combo) and one from the $58 tier (6oz. filet combo). The steaks were "OK" - the 6oz. filet was larger than my 8oz. filet! - but each was served with only three small "nothing special" scallops.
The sides - poblano au gratin potatoes and creamed corn with bacon - while well seasoned and tasty were not particularly visually appealing in their presentation and quantity seemed somewhat skimpy.
With one cocktail each, the bill came to $225.
I came away greatly disappointed but left a good tip as the service was attentive.
Concerning "value for money" at a high-end steakhouse, I'll probably pass on J. Gilbert's and look elsewhere from now on.
Best lobster I’ve ever had and the Manhattan was on point
We had the filet, they were cooked perfectly. Sides and salads were delicious. Our waiter was Rainer, he was great fun and made the meal a extra special experience.
I love this place. Whether you want salmon or a ribeye, you can't go wrong. The only place that has happy hour on Sunday - as well as half price bottles of wine!
My family loves J Gilbert we have been there serval times. This thanksgiving wasn’t my favorite trip to J Gilbert but I’m sure they were busy and short staffed due to covid.
It took a very long time for the host to check us in. Food was good but the portion was very small (I ordered a 6 oz filet and it was only 2.5 inches in diameter and less than an inch thick. No way it was 6 oz even before being cooked). Our server was great!
I went to J. Gilbert's on a first date, and it was a hit! We started with a cocktail at the bar, which is comfy, but ALL of the chairs at the bar are inaccessible (because of COVID). Then we were seated, at our convenience, at a cozy booth. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The menu is impressive, especially with steaks and seafood, and they have a great wine list. Each of us walked out with an open bottle of wine, to enjoy later at home. The evening led to a second date, so I would definitely return to J. Gilbert's.
Excellent meal at J. Gilberts this weekend. My wife had sea bass and risotto. I went with petite filet, scallops, and risotto. J. Gilbert's lobster risotto is the best in Columbus! The carrot cake dessert topped off a wonderful meal!!
Food was delicious, our server Philip was outstanding, price was good for the food we got. However the hostess was not very polite. Had to wait like 5 minutes while she was in the phone for her to help us, then she took us to the room off to the right which looked more like a conference set up with table and chairs. When asked if we could have a nice comfy booth like everyone else in the restaurant is when we got a little attitude. She acted like this was a big problem( we had 6 o’clock reservation and the place was still over half empty) She proceeded back to hostess desk to talk to other hostess for a min came back with the attitude saying follow me please. Took us to a small two person booth saying will this do? With a snarky smile! We have been there every year for our anniversary for almost 20 years now and never had a problem. Did not want to take my wife out for anniversary dinner just to be put in the corner at the kids table! Overall, still turned out to be a great dinner though!
The food was delicious, the staff phenomenal, I couldn't recommend the place more!
Birthday nice quiet evening
food was very Good, But our server (David) made the dining experience excellent. He made us feel that it didn't matter what the menu said, it was what WE wanted that was important. Thank you David!!
We had not been there for many years... very pleased! Great atmosphere, excellent service and food.. Totally enjoyable evening...
Best Restaurant in the area!
My husband's steak was cooked to perfection, my scallops were divine, and I'm suspicious that the waiter was telepathic because every time a began to think we needed something, he was there either offering it, or suggesting it. The meals were fresh and hot (or cold as needed) and everyone was warm, friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Portions were generous. This is my favorite restaurant for obvious reasons!
Mold on the bread- brought out after appetizers
Cold mashed potatoes
A gratin potatoes- were good
Appetizers not timed correctly
Sister got sick- in the parking lot - she had shrimp
We go to restaurants a lot- we like to dine out- and we don't like to complain- but all 6 of us were not impressed at all - we
Food was really good. Service was decent. Atmosphere is “interesting.” Overall would go back for the food. Crab cakes and lobster Mac n cheese were excellent.
Great food and service. They were doing well with the social distancing.
Wasn't what I've come to expect from J. Gilbert. Server was mildly disinterested. Scallops were average. Free birthday dessert for my husband was the highlight of the meal.
First time here. It was ok. Nothing special.
I’m glad I went and tried it, but don’t see me going back.
10oz Top sirloin, creamed corn with bacon, pablano augratin potatoes. Amazing and Carrot cake
We wish the table and light fixture were a little cleaner.
Continued great food & service. Tried the Filet Trio and was perfect.
The steak was delicious. The pecan green beans were the best I’ve ever had. Service was great. There was a nearby couple with a screaming child that was the only damper on the meal. But I’m a grandpa and I can handle it.
Drinks were watery. Husband ordered a Manhattan and I ordered a dirty martini. Both were diluted somehow. Everything else was fine, steaks were great server was great.
Soooooo Goooood! We love J. Gilberts! The food and service are the best! I had the special, the sea bass, and it did not disappoint! It melted in my mouth. And of course, we can't complain about the carrot cake. This simply the best carrot cake in town!
Wonderful dining experience every time. Food is absolutely amazing.
It was great way to celebrate my birthday!Great service.
Unfortunately our go to restaurant failed us on this night. We had a group of six and were packed into a booth that was too tight. It was unfortunate that seating was not appropriate for our group, especially since the restaurant was not at all crowded. Three of the six meals were sub par. The cowboy cut was so fatty, that much was inedible. Two of the filet's were ordered medium, and were very rare. We are usually very happy with our meals at J. Gilbert's. Sadly this night did not meet our expectations.
This is our 3rd trip to J. Gilbert’s, and we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. My main complaints were the rush of bringing out our dinner, while we’re still eating our appetizer (which we specifically asked for time in between courses), and the quality of food has declined. We’re going back in a couple of weeks for a birthday, so I’m hoping things will be better.
It was a pleasant evening with my wife J Gilbert’s was awesome as usual!!
It is our go-to place for any special occasion we celebrate. It never disappoints.
I only wish we could afford to go regularly.
Great lamb. One of the better waiters we have had in a long time.
Great food and atmosphere! We went there for our anniversary, and will be coming back next year!!! Absolutely loved this place!!!!
Worst service ever!!! The server was very rude asked to speak to management and was told he couldn’t come to the table. Will not ever come back!
Everything was great minus the table behind me that was talking extremely loud.
It was just ok. Not as good as it used to be. The place needs a complete face lift. Service was average....food-average. Wasn’t crowded but took time to get things.
Great server! Excellent steak as I had the KC cut. One of my favorites in Columbus.
