J. Gilbert’s Wood-Fired Steaks & Seafood - West County Center Ratings and Reviews
We went Valentines day and they were extremely busy, to be expected. We had reservations for weeks and were sat in the bar area. Lets just say it is was not at all romantic it was loud, our food took a very long time and when it came it was cold. Drinks were great, the food that I sent back came out much better the second time. There was no manager to come to the table to apologize for the cold food. We have been multiple times and never had an experience like this so we will most likely come back but it will be a while. We will never use this restaurant again for a special occasion.
My husband and I went here for our anniversary. When we arrived we were greeted with a warm smile and wished a Happy Anniversary. Our waiter Joey was fantastic, made sure we had what we needed at all times without being a bother.
I thought the food was great but the price was still a bit high.
I have dined at J. Gilbert's several times and never had an issue, however, this time I was disappointed at the lack of enthusiasm (borderline ridiculous) of the young woman behind the check-in counter AND the young woman who sat us. No smiles whatsoever and we honestly felt like walking out. We also had to wait an unusual amount of time for our table, even though I had made the reservation months in advance. Luckily, our waiter was very good and the food this time was okay (lobster was overcooked/tough). I'll probably stick with Bristol from now on because the greeting staff there is much more pleasant.
When I first walked into the hostess station, I said hello how are you with a warm smile and made eye contact. The hostess gave me a blank stare and said how can I help you, no smile, she seemed slightly uninterested. I don't usually expect people to match my energy or my warmth I just think I was caught off guard due to the fact this place is upscale and really nice and It was the dryest and un-warmest welcome I think I've ever gotten from a restaurant. Apparently it wasn't just the hostess that sat me. As my other girlfriends made it to the table one of their first comments was about their issues with the another hostess-- their lack of friendliest and/or professionalism. One girlfriend was sat with the wrong party- when she went back to get seated with the right party the hostess didn't really acknowledge her and asked her to wait while she helped another. my friend just went exploring and found us on her own. Other than that my waiter was excellent, food was great. Hostess need work-especially since its the first thing one see's and experience before even getting to the food. -1 star
This is a must eat at place. I have been here twice an both time it has been fabulous, they have the best steak I have ever ate in the area. The service is great both times I have been the waiters have been very tentative, and have great knowledge of the menu, they were very professional and is one of the best reasons to go here is top notice service. Overall the meals have been perfectly cooked for me, and the restaurant prices aren't too high! I would reconmmend this to all of my friends as a nice spot to eat at or just to grab drinks.
Our waiter was named Shane. He did a wonderful job as our server. It was my girlfriend's birthday and her first time visiting your restaurant. He made it a nice, relaxing evening. He did not bother us, yet he always knew what we needed (refills, questions, etc.). This restaurant is one of the best for service and taste of food.
Friends & I were getting together after having a few challenging weeks & wanted to catch up, relax, & have a great meal. J Gilberts NEVER disappoints! Food was amazibg as usual & Ethen, our server was gteat! He has assisted us before & remembered us & took excellent care of us!!
Pro’s: Great steaks and sides, especially the Brussels sprouts! Nice wine and drink selection. Bar is fun and comfortable for drinks and apps, restaurant is cozy, decor and ambience is refined but not stuffy. Great service. Prices are not outrageous, you get what you pay for.
Cons: Desserts need some work, had a piece of cheesecake to go and tasted like freezer burn.
J. Gilbert's has a really great menu and something for everyone. Their steaks are exceptionally good and so is their chicken and sea food. I particularly enjoy the combination of 4 oz. filet with
crab legs. They have very good salads and very delicious tortilla soup when I want something lighter. I frequently go to J. Gilbert's for business meals as it is very close to my office and its
an upscale environment.
