J. Gilbert’s – Wood Fired Steaks & Seafood - Overland Park Ratings and Reviews
WE drove from Country Club Plaza to dine at your restaurant and have dined there whenever we are in the KC area. To us, it represents what a fine dining establishment should be; helpful and attentive servers without "hovering" and an atmosphere that is both fun and sophisticated.
Horrible experience. Would never got back even if it was free. Had the filet that was tough and seasoned with tenderizer. Wife had chef special fish that was chewy. Server disputed what I told her. Even if I was wrong, which I was not staff does not challenge the customer. The prices were quite high and for that kind of money one would expect edible food and friendly and courteous service. Really, do not expect you to post this review. This was not a busy night and there can be no excuse for this miserable dining experience.
9PM reservation for my birthday, have been here dozens of times. Portions were very skimpy this day maybe because it was late, but I won’t take that for an excuse. I have had the same dinner here a multitude of times and I felt very slighted tonight. It will take a lot to get me back here which is a shame because this used the be my favorite place.
This past April I was traveling through Kansas City and searched for a good steak house, I found J. Gilbert's and it was on my way to Wichita. I did not have a reservation but they were able to seat me. It was an incredible meal, service was great and I was very impressed. So, when my wife and I decided to return to Kansas City to celebrate our 20th anniversary, since we had honeymooned there in 1997, I wanted to take her to J. Gilbert's. This time we had a reservation but even on a Saturday night there was no waiting. Once again our meal was fantastic. Service was wonderful and in general we had a perfect dining experience. When you want to celebrate something special this is your place. They had also included a complimentary champagne toast which was unexpected and extra special. Can't wait to get back to Kansas City. The locals are very fortunate.
We went for Thanksgiving and order off special price fixe menu. Steak was just average slightly overcooked. Mashed potatoes were bland. Desserts were good. The service was mediocre and slow even thought we ate late 7 pm and they were not overly busy. I had much higher expectations based on previous occasions.
We always love the food, service and ambience at J. Gilbert's . Pricey for a regular dinner out, but wonderful for a special evening. Thanksgiving was no exception!! The special holiday meal my husband loved, and I loved the regular food - steak & scallop combo. Great wine list and craft cocktails and desserts - yum!
We did the Thanksgiving Dinner reservation. We were promptly seated and had excellent service. We had quite a bit of turkey. The dressing was ok. Did not care for their green beans and I do not like sweet potatos. Mashed potatos were good as was the Maryland crab bisque. Pumpkin pie was so-so. Coffee was good as was the cranberry relish. Overall, it seemed better last year.
Absolutely sensational food! The ambience and service were exceptional. We went there for our 30th Anniversary and were told "Happy Anniversary" by everyone from the greeter to the server to the manager. They also offered as a complimentary beverage or dessert because it was our anniversary. The steak was probably the best I've ever tasted and the sides were exceptional too!
Had a wonderful meal at J Gilberts on Sunday. We had not been there in years, and we will not let that much time go by again. Excellent food, exceptional service. Steaks cooked to perfection. We enjoyed half priced wine bottles (Sunday). The food is absolutely on par with pricier steakhouses like Sullivan's, 801 Chophouse, Capital Grill, but at a lower cost. Great ambiance, too.
