Food was amazing! Staff was amazing!...I let them know when making reservation it was for a birthday and when we arrived there was a birthday card and also free chocolate cake for dessert.will definitely be back
I booked J Gilberts for my birthday. I had a wonderful experience the previous times I went, but this dinner turned out to be a little extra special.
There was a special note on my table when I arrived thanking me for celebrating my day with them along with a free dessert of my choice.
The server, Cathy L, was so nice and attentive. When she found out I was the birthday girl, she made sure I ordered first and every course and drink I was the first served. That action wasn't necessary but made me feel special.
We had one incident that was taken care of quickly. My friend ordered the incorrect drink and Cathy immediately rectified the situation.
At the end of the meal, Cathy brought out our desserts and mine had a lit candle in it.
It was a very special evening. I rarely have this type of service or attentiveness at a restaurant and would really like to thank J Gilberts for making my birthday extra special.
You've won a special place in my heart and I have already recommended you to my friends based on my experience Thursday evening. I already loved your restaurant because of the food and service, I now love you even more.
My wife and I have been dining here for our anniversary for quite a few years. Love the ambiance of lighting they have that relaxes you immediately. The service is always exemplary, starting with acknowledgement of our anniversary. Drinks are always expertly concocted, and the meals are always first class. I had the bone in Cowboy steak and it was delicious. Closely compared to Don Shula`s and Mickey Mantle`s steak houses, which are the best I have been to. Overall a splendid night which we will copy again next year.
Excellent attentive service. Perfectly prepared meal. Nice wine selection.
Went for our anniversary. The steaks were perfectly cooked, everything was amazing.
Our waitress, Jenny, was very knowledgeable, friendly and appropriately attentive for our anniversary dinner. She gave great recommendations and went out of her way to accommodate a special request. Food was well prepared and delicious. We will be back!
Great server - great food
I love this place. It's consistently solid across all aspects of dining, from food to service, to ambiance. The setting is calm and relaxed and I can have a conversation without being distracted by others or the music. The service is always extremely attentive and helpful with suggestions or recommendations. I haven't had a bad meal yet. Their wine list is awesome and 1/2 price bottles on Sunday nights is well worth a visit.
This is one of the few restaurants that my wife and I dine at. They have half price bottles of wine on Sunday nights.
J. Gilbert’s never disappoints. Service was attentive but not overbearing. We had a collection of steaks and seafood and everyone was pleased. The grilled vegetable entree is terrific. We’ll be back soon!
We had a great evening celebrating 3 birthdays. Our server, Mark, made our night with his expertise and great conversation. This is one of my favorite steakhouses in town, and we will return very soon! Everyone's meal came out in a timely manner, and steaks were perfectly cooked. Everything from beginning to end was perfect!
Loved the wild mushrooms and truffles!
Also received a complimentary yummy desert because it was my husband’s birthday!
J. Gilbert’s never disappoints. Great server and great food!
Out waitress, Christine, was exceptional; food delicious!!
Atmosphere was wonderful next to a fireplace. Could easily talk. Food was great as always. Staff was pleasant.
We eat here occasionally as it is pricey, but thia last time our server clearly wasn't having a good day and we very much felt uncomfortable
Amazing! Would definitely recommend to anyone! Amazing portions, and outstanding service. Ask for manager Rachel and server Nathan!

I had listed it was a Birthday, but no one on the team even mentioned it!
Perfect every time!!! The food is to die for - steaks are perfect and tasty - desserts are scrumptious!!
This was our 57th anniversary and our first time dining at J Gilbert’s. It will not be our last, we were there with friends, and we were very pleased with the service, by John, and the food and drinks were superb. Thanks for the good time!!
Always a good experience. Great service, delicious food, interesting creative cocktails and a great wine list. Lots more than steak (though that is always a great choice!) Fish specials and salmon are wonderful. Ambience is very welcoming
Great good, great service, great friends to enjoy this night
J Gilberts has always been a favorite of mine and my wife’s. While they do serve an outstanding steak we actually enjoy going for soup and salad, they have the best smoked chicken and corn tortilla soup in the city. This is not a tomato based soup but a broth-based soup and is very good. I I order the Caesar salad with anchovies, best Caesar salad in Kansas City hands-down. We highly recommend J Gilberts for dinner, business dinner, or any special occasion. The servers are very knowledgeable in the menu and do a extremely fine job of taking care of each one of their customers.
Food wasn’t very impressive. Over salted and cooked
The two of us had a wonderful Easter dinner in a private dining room. Angel was our server and as always did an outstanding job accommodating us. My wife had a fillet and I had the rack of lamb. Wonderful!
Great food , warm atmosphere, and professional servers.
I have always considered J. Gilbert's as a reliable restaurant where one could always find a good meal at a fair price. After all, J. Gilbert's has been in business in Overland Park for more than 25 years. But at our last gathering on Easter Sunday, the food was not up their usual high standards. In particular, the filet was chewy and stringy. In addition, a smokey flavor overpowered the savory taste of this expensive cut of meat. Another disappointment were the vegetables -- in particular, the beans and asparagus. Both were cooked crisp, but not tender.
To be fair, all the seafood was luscious and flavorful.
It's time for J. Gilbert's to get a face-lift. The restaurant is way too dark! My mashed Yukon gold potatoes looked an unpleasant gray until I got home with leftovers and saw that they were actually a soft yellow, as they should be. The amber lighting doesn't help matter . This restaurant's decor is dated. Please fix this!!
Easter lunch.. Side of shrimp was fishy. Steak, risotto, cheesecake awesome. Great service. Actually brought a no charge cheesecake because grandkids ate grandmas first piece.
Excellent food and service. A bit pricey. Waitress was amazing and very polite. Overall, a wonderful restaurant with delicious food.
Amazing food, place, service and ll always come back!.
My hubby and I were in serious need of a date night, and this weekend was perfect. We’d never been to J Gilbert’s before - but will be sure to return again soon. The food was delicious, and the steak was so tender I barely needed a knife. I can’t wait to go back!!
Service was exceptional as always- thank you Nathan. Steaks cooked to perfection.
The downside was we were put in a back room and not in the restaurant so there was no ambiance. I will ask to sit in the restaurant and not this back room.
Our family gets together once a year for a celebration and we've been looking for a replacement for Ruth's Chris - think we've found it. The wood-fired flavor on the steaks is fantastic, great choices for the side dishes and desserts. The best part is that it does come in a bit less expensive than Ruth's Chris was since the sides are included in the price of the entree. Love their Prix Fix menu options, so even a better deal.
In a city known for good food, particularly steak, J. Gilbert's is hands-down the best, most delicious option . I'm a KC native and a foodie and have been to every "it" place in town. I always go back to and recommend J. Gilbert's as the best place to go for a great dinner. The steak can't be beat and surprisingly, their fish is also tremendous. They always deliver a great meal and the service continues to be superior in every way imaginable - from the host stand to the wait staff to the management - it's really just impeccable.
Thank you J. Gilbert's for never disappointing.
The steak and sides were delicious, service was fast and friendly. Very enjoyable. We like to sit in the bar because the lighting in the dining rooms is sometimes too bright but ti is just right in the bar booths.
