Here’s my take on dinner. For my appetizer I ordered the crab bisque. There was a healthy serving of crab and the velvety rich soup to back it up was phenomenal. For dinner I ordered the 4 oz filet with the scallops. The filet was perfectly cooked and had the right amount of seasoning to make it mouth watering delicious and the scallops were carmelized gloriously. I am always nervous to order scallops because they are so easy to over cook and when I saw the crust I was concerned, but taking that first bite I quickly realized they were amazing. It was a salty taste with hints of sweetness and just melted in the mouth. For dessert I got the coconut cake and in all honesty I wish I would have ordered the desert first because I was too full to completely finish this masterpiece. It was a dense cake, with an array of flavors that didn’t over power each other but complimented each bite with a mix of sweet and tangy. This was the prie fixe (sp?) menu and was $44 which could be steep for a simple night out, but if you’re a foodie or if it’s a special occasion I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
Good service but Overpriced. Will likely not return
First time there. Food was great! I will go back.
My wife celebrated her birthday with a wonderful dinner. My steak and scallops were cooked as ordered and my wife's salmon was great according to her. We will be going back soon.
Bria was an amazing Waitress! She did such a great job serving us. Mike the bar manager was amazing he was so informative on the drinks and made great educating recommendations that were amazing!
Food was incredible. One of the best dining experiences we have had in a long time!!
Get ready to shell out some $ you eat here. It's good, but only for special occasions.
My husband and I celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary and would not have changed a thing!
My spouse and i decided to celebrate her birthday at J. Gilbert's for a nice steak dinner. The food was very good although pricey. One thing that we did not care for was that our waitress did not tell us that there was a special that evening but she told the couple at the table next to us about it. We might have liked what was offered but will now never know. Lastly, my wife had the coconut cake dessert and it was great until you tasted the sauce that that was around and under the cake which was sour(almost bitter) and just ruined the dish.
We enjoyed an amazing dinner and bottle of wine. The atmosphere is perfect for conversation.
The Ahi Tuna was amazing as were the scallops and mushroom risotto!
Our experience was excellent as always with J. Gilberts! This is our restaurant of choice any time we have something to celebrate. Service is always top notch, the servers know their menu and can make great recommendations, and it makes a special celebration even more memorable. Thanks again, J. Gilberts!
My meal at J Gilberts was one of the most delicious meals I've ever had, and I have been to all the best places in town. I took my husband for his birthday (our first time there) and we loved it so much we went back two weeks later. I ordered the steak and scallops and they do NOT disappoint! Everything from the bread, salads, sides, dessert and wine - it's all so delicious, and the service is truly top notch! This restaurant is becoming a regular date-night spot for my husband and me, and we can't wait to go back again!
This was our first time at this restaurant. We were celebrating a belated Valentines with two other couples which has been a annual tradition for over 20 years. It was a great evening. The service was top notch, our waitress was the best and food was fantastic. Will definitely be returning.
The only reason I rated service and overall value low is that for the expense, we did not see the waitress nearly often enough, and it took a really long time to get a drink, etc., Other than that, everything was great.
The atmosphere was perfect for a quiet dinner. Seating is not crowded. We were visually close to the fireplace, which was lovely. The food is very good. We love the lettuce wedge - I could make it a meal. The sides are creative, the zucchini casserole was wonderful - can't wait for it to be back on the menu. We had the filet mignon and the salmon. Both were quite good.
One of our favorite restaurants to visit on a special occasion or date night. The ambiance and drink menu are great. The food is always fantastic and the service good. We have been on a date for 2 and also as a large group and enjoyed both.
Everything was wonderful. We will definitely go back again.
The food was delicious and the service was top-notch
We had a wonderful dining experience. The food was delicious.
High quality food, expretly prepared. One of the best restaurants in KC area. The wait staff is very good. Our favorite!
The three of us each ordered a steak filet. We all felt they were the best steaks we have had in years. Our server "Brie" was so attentive and kind to all of us. We can't wait to go back for our birthdays and to take company to experience J. Gilbert's.
Very relaxing and everyone was pleasant.
We had a great evening with friends at J. Gilberts, and the food and service was fantastic!
Best steak I have had in a very long time. Excellent cut of meat cooked to perfection. Carly was our waitress and was amazing. Knew all the food choices and recommended a good wine. Overall a wonderful night with great service and great food.
Food was delicious as always. I wish there were more vegetable options.
Our booth was very small for four people & we are average size. Food was good except for cold baked potato. Service not what we have had before when at your restaurant. Cheese on salad after telling waitress lactose intolerant, no steak knives, bill was wrong & had to be corrected
We arrived at 7:15 pm as per our reservation. My wife ordered a bone in rib eye and was told they were out of rib eyes. She then ordered a beef filet medium and I ordered salmon. Her beef filet arrived almost well done and she refused to send it back. Both my sides of mashed potatoes and green beans were cold and I did send those back. So, i would be very reluctant to come back. Too many things went wrong especially for my wife in a steak restaurant.
My mom just mi2ved to town so we had to celebrate at my favorite restaurant.....mom loved it!
Absolutely one of the best meals that I have had in quite some time! The filets were cooked to perfection...and all sides were perfect!! I cant even describe how good the 7 layer coconut cake was....would take two pages for that alone! Our server (Christina) was absolutely passionate about making sure that everything was above expectations. Her friendly attitude and vast knowledge of everything on the menu added yet another star to an experience that was already at the top of the game! KUDOS to her...she is a superstar in customer service!!
We ultimately had a nice booth, but were initially taken to a table in the "secondary" (my term) seating area, which has virtually no ambiance. I was surprised - after making a reservation - to be taken there. Glad I asked for a booth in the other area instead. It was a MUCH nicer experience.
I have been in the restaurant business for over 25 years and have traveled extensively. Our server, Angel, made our dining experience amazing! She might be one of the best ever! Not to mention, the food was delicious and the overall experience was delightful. Can't recommend this restaurant enough!
It was good except my special request to have a bottle of wine placed at the table wasn’t fulfilled.
Cajun Spiced Filet. Just order it ;)
Loved the options. My Caser salad and apple croustade were excellent. Our steaks were prepared as ordered, and I thought the combo options were fantastic and gave a surf and turf option. Wonderful food and great ambiance!
My wife and I had our belated Valentine's Day here. The food and service was excellent! Thank you to the staff and chefs there at J. Gilbert's for a wonderful time!
The steak I received was nice and tender but my fiancee entree was not to pleasant.
The food was fantastic. Expect to spend a lot of money. But, going to a place like this, you should expect to pay a lot. The food was worth it. The server staff was kind and attentive. A definite place to go for a treat.
One of our favorites because the food, especially the steaks are one of the best in town. The service is excellent, both friendly and efficient.
Had a reservation for my wife's birthday on a Saturday evening. They sat us in a small room off the main dining room that was much brighter than the rest of the restaurant. Even though there were only two of us, they sat us at a table for 6. I told my wife that it felt like we were rejects and placed in a room away from the other customers. Server forgot my drink, steaks were not cooked correctly. Just overall a poor experience. Could have saved sixty bucks and had dinner at Applebees. We certainly wont be in a hurry to go back.
J. Gilberts has been my go to STEAK restaurant for the past 15 to 20 years. Sorry, I really do not remember the first time I went to J. Gilberts, however I have not gone anywhere else for a steak dinner since. They also have other entries, which are equally as good, like scallops. Depending on your budget, J. Gilberts may seem a little pricey, but it a great special occasion destination.
