The food and service were great. We really appreciated the chocolate velvet cake for our anniversary. That was a nice surprise. Only have one suggestion. It would be nice to have a larger selection of entrees with the three course meals.

Worst lunch I've ever had. Soup bowl was cold, needless to say likewise the soup. Had it reheated and it came back slopped all over the bowl, and it was liquid salt, chef must have emptied the salt container. The serving was so skimpy you could never get a full spoon. The wedge salad had maybe a tablespoon of dressing, three crumbles of bacon, six pieces of tomatoes and possibly some blue cheese somewhere. It was such a disappointment on our holiday outing. Never going back. It used to be a lovely place to dine, not anymore. Staff either has an attitude or hate being there.

Always a great place to eat. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, our steaks were cooked perfectly and the atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable. Always a great to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or any special occasion.

The cost of eating out has increased to the point where we can only afford it for special occasions, whereas we were use to going out much more often. That said, the service and food were tops.

I was served a crab cake that was not completely cooked. The center was still like dough. When I asked the server, he returned with the crab cake to the kitchen. Then he brought me a completely flatten out crab cake and asked if it was done now. You could tell the kitchen did not like the return of the crab cake. If fact it was done and once I piled up in the shape of the cake, it was moist and plenty of crabmeat. The service has really gone down hill over the years.

The protein portion of the entrees were good but the sides were not. mashed potatoes were cold roasted veggies-Brussels sprouts and carrots were very under cooked and not much flavor.

We celebrated our anniversary at J. Gilbert's and it didn't disappoint. Excellent food and service. The steaks we had (6 oz. filet and 12 oz. strip) were wonderfully flavored and perfectly cooked. Baked potatoes, salad, and chocolate mousse cake were great, too. Our server was friendly and efficient.

We've eaten at J. Gilberts many times and had a few of my company Xmas dinners there. This was my wife's birthday and, much as I normally like the food, it was exceptionally good last night. The surf and turf special was a pleasant surprise since it fell on her birthday and all of the dishes were excellent. It will continue to be one of our favorites.

Angel Eyes loves the Maple Plank Salmon. My filet mignon had great flavor for the second time in a couple of months but was a little chewy. I'm not sure what grade of steaks they are buying but for the price, it could stand to be a little better. I would have said something but once someone else delivered our food, and in a very short moment our server came by and asked if I needed steak sauce to which I replied " Not if it's any good ", I must have insensed her because we never saw her again until we were finished. My wife wanted an after-dinner coffee which they only had decaffeinated. All in all, it was a little better than mediocre. I'm not sure when restaurants started having someone take your order and other people deliver it. I personally don't care for that type of service. There also was a time and at some of the finer restaurants in the KC area, your sever would stop by and top off the wine when you ordered a bottle. I don't mind paying restaurant prices for wine that I can purchase for a third of the price, but please give me some service with it. Management, are you spreading the servers too thin?

We were in the bar area at a table freezing while trying to eat dinner with a vent overhead. Server great, food great, but we were freezing with the vent blowing cold air. Might be back in the spring when it warms up and I do not need to wear a jacket.

Went here because we just got a new house and haven’t set up the kitchen. It was very convenient for Thanksgiving and the turkey was the best I’ve ever had. Most of the sides were just ok, but I still think it’s worth it if you don’t have the time to cook.

The house salad was good. I didn't care for the crabcakes, but the side vegetable (was it green beans? I don't remember) was good. The pumpkin pie tasted too gelatinous and I couldn't eat it.

Delivery of outstanding food was a little slow. We were not in a hurry...we like fine dining, but this was a bit slow between courses. Normally not a problem here, we like J Gilberts, one of our favorites in KC

My wife and I were traveling through the Kansas City metro area and we discovered J. Gilbert's on Opentable. We had never eaten there so we made a reservation and we're happy we did. Upon arriving we were quickly seated and our server Keylee was very prompt in coming to our table and introducing herself. She did a very good job in explaining the options the menu provided and then left us to make our entree decisions. My wife and I both chose a filet with my wife ordering hers medium rare and my choice was medium. Keylee mentioned Sunday was half price wine day and we chose a very nice Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley in Oregon that complemented the meal very well. When our entrees were delivered they were prepared perfectly. Our experience at J Gilbert's from Keylee's excellent service to the quality or food and the preparation of it was outstanding. The next time we're in the Kansas City area we will definitely return to this quality restaurant.

This is my favorite steakhouse in all of KC. I have always had wonderful food until tonight. I had the Waygu steak special. I've had Waygu at other restaurants and it was lean, juicey and flavorful . This Waygu at J Gilbert's tonight was like eating beef flavored globs of fat. I was very disappointed. I'll stick to the filet next time.

Outstanding place, staff was attentive without being overbearing, they were nice and professional. The food was delicious and they even left us a card congratulating us on our 40th anniversary(which I had put in my reservation) Most importantly, my wife was happy and that's what matters.
