The steak was fantastic and the potato was very tasty. The chocolate cake was worth skipping hors d’oeuvres. I’ll be back.
Food is fantastic, although the lobster mac n cheese was not great (but not bad). It was a bit dry and not much flavor to it according to all of us who tried it.
Crab cakes are out of this world!! The Prix Fixe Menu was excellent, steak was cooked perfectly and sides were outstanding. Can't wait to go back!!
As always the service and the food were exceptional. Hubby had the KC strip that was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I had the lobster tails. Delicious!
Can't wait to go back.
The night did not start out good as they were out of smoked bourbon so had to order a regular old fashion. I ordered the 6 oz filet and if it was even 4 oz I would have been shocked. That being said, it was so delicious and flavorful. Wife ordered the Cajun 8 oz filet and it was definitely twice the size of mine and even the server made a comment about the size discrepancy. Overall it was a good experience and was a great anniversary dinner.
Our waiter Jona was excellent food was okay would definitely try again
The food was okay. I had the crab cakes and they tasted like they were frozen and not made from scratch. My husband didn't think his crab cake tasted very good either but he loved his steak. The waitress was also okay, she was sweet but we never got our appetizer we ordered, and my husband didn't get his piece of cake for his birthday. I don't know if he didn't get it because his meal already came with one but she almost forgot we both got dessert with our meals. I had to remind her of that. I got the $ 51 meal and he got the $61 meal. I also had to ask her to fill our drinks, she never did it on her own and never took our dirty dishes away. Another waiter took our dirty dishes away when he brought us our dessert and he was very nice. We hadn't been to this restaurant in over 15 years and I'm not sure I would go back right away. I think if the service we had would of been a little bit better it might of been more worth it.
We are new to town and checked out J.Gilbert's for our anniversary. We are so happy we did. We had such a great experience the firs time we returned again to the same level of excellence. The quality is excellent and flavors are unique, balanced, and consistent. We have had excellent service and will continue to make this a staple for special occasions.
The steak was sub par. I have had better steaks at Texas Roadhouse. My soup and cocktail was delicious. My wife ordered the creme brule and it came out cold it seemed like it had been sitting a while and was not heated freshly. For the price you pay it doesn't seem worth it when the main course isn't the best.
Food was excellent and we loved the special attention from our server, St. John. Thank you!!
This is the first time we've been disappointed at J. Gilbert's - hopefully it's an anomaly. Our server was personable but very busy. This was the longest it's ever taken for a server to take our order. When we asked for the calamari to be sauteed, she checked with the chef and he was unwilling to prepare it this way. This is the first time at any restaurant where we've had a chef refuse such a request. When the meal arrived my pork chop seemed satisfactory. But about half-way through, it was nearly uncooked. I decided that sending it back to the kitchen would delay an already long meal.
We've eaten at J. Gilbert's many times and have always enjoyed it. We definitely will go back and we recommend it to others. However, our experience on this particular visit was less than stellar.
Ordered 2 filets med and they were well done. Second bad experience in a row!
I took out my staff for dinner as a thank you for their support and service. Jeremy was great and the food delicious.
Server was incredible. She was middle aged Asian lady and she was phenomenal and only bad thing and it even bad was we didn’t get cracked pepper for our wedge salad until basically done. Other than that she was amazing!!!!
Continues to be our favorite for anniversary dinners. We’ll be back.
Our server was probably newer, and not the best. You would think that if someone was choosing their restaurant for an anniversary, you would sit them with an experienced server. They were out of lamb- which is why we picked this restaurant, my soup never came out. We ordered wine, the server was not of age; so had to wait for someone else to come open our bottle & serve us. He was the best person we came in contact with!
The service was excellent. And the steak, cooked to perfection. One a medium-rare, the other a medium-well. Perfection on both!
Gate experience great food!!
Excellent food and service. We had a great experience!
My steak had no seasoning, over-chared and over priced. Crab bisque had a few tiny pieces of crab. "Pretzel crusted" were just regular onion rings. Mashed potatoes and creamed corn were good. Server was slow and not attentive.
Love it Everyone was on point and the food and staff was amazing
Service & Food always superb @ J Gilberts! We were celebrating my son Big Promotion! Love this place highly recommend for special occasion, happy hour, anytime. Everyone is always very friendly & provide excellent service & food!
We had a wonderful evening with friends celebrating both of our 50th Wedding Anniversaries. Food, service and fun all 5 stars!
The food was very good but service was a bit slower than what we usually experience. Perhaps there was a staffing issue.
We enjoyed our dinner as well
As our server.
It had been a few years since we had been there.
They had a special of Argentina Sea Bass. Perfect.
My wife had a filet and Crab cake.
Both were excellent.
Great date night! We'll be back. Best steak in town.
I understand the whole mask thing but it detracts from the experience. Also, I think servers are less likely to smile which you can see in their eyes even if most of their face is covered.
I realize that all businesses are struggling for good help. It’s the situation we find ourselves today.
Returned for an anniversary dinner and were not disappointed.
The only place to have seafood and steak. The treasure in our part of town.
We had an absolutely wonderful experience. The service was phenomenal, the food was outstanding and they even gave me a personalized birthday card. Thank you so much and we look forward to coming back soon!
We loved it
This is our favorite place in Kansas City!! Food and service are always excellent along with wonderful atmosphere. We were very glad to see them busy on our most recent visit.
Really great dinner with our group of 8. The wait staff were very attentive patient with our late arrivals. Food as usual was excellent.
Have loved J. Gilbert's for years ... one of my favorites restaurants in the KC metro area.
Wonderful anniversary experience. The food was amazing.
Dinner was a special occasion and did not disappoint. It was fairly full and therefore fairly noisy. I appreciated that all wait staff had masks on.
Ribeye was tough full of Gristle couldn't eat most of it
Service and food were wonderful! Easy to back again
I'm 62 and this was probably the best meal ever and I eat at steakhouses frequently.
The steak was perfect Heck, everything from the bread to the ice cream was first rate.
The wait staff was exceptional and very helpful to my wife who can't eat a large volume due to stomach bypass surgery so she end's up boxing half of everything. Rather than box up her half eaten salad, the waitress boxed up a new salad for her. Who does that?--nobody else that I know of. So she gets to enjoy the other half of her meal today. Me..not so much as I eat it all right there.
Thanks. It was our anniversary and a enjoyable one.
