As usual, we had great food and really great service! Looking forward to another return visit!
We take our son here to celebrate birthday for last 4 years. Really enjoy food and service.
One of our favorite restaurants in KC for steaks and seafood.
Service was amazing with Christine
Came for my 15 anniversary and it was my first visit. Everything was perfect food, atmosphere, service, in addition to the anniversary card that was on our table before we arrived. Will definitely go back. Coconut cake was amazing!
Celebrating 2 birthdays
Great food and great service! Our server Mae Ling was very attentive and did an amazing job. I had the special which was sea food mixed grill and my husband had a steak. Everything was very flavorful and an enjoyable experience,
awesome food and great service!
John was our waiter. He was attentive and everything came out in a timely manner, with no overlapping. This is important to us, because other restaurants have difficulty with overlapping, or forgetting entire courses. His restaurant doesn’t have that problem.
The first course was Tuna Tartare and Shrimp Cocktail. Both were served chilled and tasted great!
The second course was a Caesar salad and a bowl of crab bisque. The salad had just the right amount of dressing, it was crisp and cold. The bisque is always amazing. I could bathe in it!
My husband had his favorite, the Cajun Filet. It was cooked to perfection! I had the 1/2 pound Lobster tail, it was also perfect. I love eating here because, it is consistently wonderful and enjoyable!!! Thank you, J. Gilbert’s ❤️
We had great food, great service. It was not cheap but not so expensive that you might wonder if you are brain dead. The server knew we were celebrating out 45th wedding anniversary. He asked my wife if she wanted a go box. I was surprised he didn’t ask if we wanted desert. Then another person shows up at our table with a great free desert.
Steak was cooked wrong twice. Service was great though wasn’t the servers fault. We did not pay for the steak but pretty sad that an upscale place has trouble with cooking steaks!
Steak was cooked perfectly and it was a great quality steak, it was exactly what I expected from a highly rated steakhouse.
Good dinner and very good service. We enjoyed t;he food and the wine.
We had not been to J. Gilbert's for a few years, so we were excited to spend an evening there. The ambiance is always excellent and the service is impeccable. The food was very good but also quite expensive we thought. The only complaint we would share is that the bench of the booth where we were seated was broken down and very uncomfortable.
Great food, both the chicken and tuna. Only question is why the potatoes and veggie served was not what was published on the menu.
Extraordinary ~ on every level!
Service was great, food delicious (mint lime sorbet was to die for). Just very loud anyway but a very loud, drunk table next to us didn’t help!
J. Gilbert's is where we go for all special occasions. The food is always just perfect! Celebration treats are very generous! We love the predictability. We love the somewhat sedate atmosphere...not real quiet or stiff, but just nice! Service is always very good! Our family highly recommends J. Gilberts!
Thanks for a great time!! My husbands birthday dinner was spectacular
Great birthday dinner for my wife and our adult children. David at the bar was great and engaging. Our server, Jeremy was fantastic with great wine recommendations, appetizers and entrees.
We’ve been to J. Gilbert’s a few times and it is always great. Service is spot on and so is the food. We like the variety that the Pre-Fix menu provides and you can’t beat the value!
The crab bisque was delicious. Don’t waste your money on the lobster Mac n cheese unless you can get them to put more than a couple of tiny slivers of lobster in it. For such a nice and pricey restaurant, I thought it would be better than RedLobster’s. The staff was very nice.
Food and service was excellent price was acceptable for setting. Budlight was way over priced but as a whole very pleased. Happy wife happy life she was blown away for her birthday date night. Thanks
Service in that locafion is always average to poor... however food is ok!
Classic steakhouse in Johnson County; a beautiful dining room with lots of wood and low lights that make it the ideal place for a romantic dinner. The steaks are out of this world. My husband gets his filet, I usually go for the salmon. Didn't get there early enough for the halibut! Great cocktail list as well.
This used to be one of my favorite KC restaurants. My last few meals there have been sub-standard. The food comes out luke warm and is prepared perfunctorily. There doesn't seem to be any really effort by the chef to go beyond assembly line preparation, and they always seem to be out of the 'special'. Which I guess would be fine if the prices were commensurate with the quality; but it's not inexpensive. My other issue is as a semi-regular they email me periodic discount coupons. Every time I try to redeem one the server conveniently 'forgets' when the bill is presented, and I have to remind them. They do comply but I get the sense they hope the diner won't bother to check, therefore potentially adding to their tip. Given their location and seemingly built-in clientele, J. Gilbert's have become just another formulaic restaurant on the KC scene, and don't feel compelled to improve and excel on the product and service they offer. It's too bad. I'm done.
Great food and the waiter was a fun guy .
David T was the most outstanding waiter. Really made our dining experience even that much better. We always enjoy our time at J Gilberts. Fantastic food, great ambiance. Our go-to for special occasions.
It was for my birthday! Great food and great atmosphere!
Meilee (not sure how to spell it) was our server. We never had to ask for anything and made us feel special! The food was fantastic and the atmosphere amazing as well. Perfect spot for a quiet date night.
All was great but my sons steak came out cold and raw in the center but they took it back and re-fired it and it was a little better. This place is great and I have never had an issue and will be back...
I have Celiac and am super nervous about eating out because I get really sick from gluten and cross contamination. Our server was great and was able to help me verify that the ginger beer in Moscow mules was gluten free and that my meal was safe. The food was excellent, some of the best steak I’ve had.
One of our favorite higher priced restaurants in KC area! Amazing service and delicious food, esp seafood!!
We had 7 people including a 90 and 94 year old in our party. They had read my reservation request and seated us at a perfect table. Food was great and everyone had a wonderful time.
Had a great experience. It was very busy but they seated us on time and food came out quickly. Our server checked on us very often. Food was delicious!
Great food, with a beautiful and romantic atmosphere. The service was A+ as well. I came here for my 5th wedding anniversary dinner and it was worth it!
The service was excellent and the food was really good.
The 6oz wood-fired Steak is without peer. One of the best ever! The asparagus was good. The loaded baked potato was coldish. Maybe due to the cold sour cream mixed in made it cold. The bacon in the potato was cut large and maybe a little tough. The sea scallups were cold, not hot like they should have been—very dissapointing. The appetizer—blue cheese potato chips—was very good. The desert—cheesecake—was average. Service was very good. Next time I’ll just get the very excellent Caesar salad and the steak and pass on the rest. Wife said the Salmon, mashed potatoes, green beans and Caesar was great. Lastly, we came to hear the music while we ate. No such luck. We’ll have to go to Big Cedar Lodge for that.
