Great food and service. We will definitely be back. The waiting staff is very friendly and helpful. Food is very fresh. It does get a little noisy on Friday evenings.

Always a good safe choice whether it be for business, personal, or casual dining, or even for a special event. The food is always good and solid, and the pricing is very competitive with comparative restaurants. The staff are always professional, helpful, and never overbearing. I very nice comfortable place to be a regular!

Very crowded for lunch on a cold winter's day. There are next-to-none good food choices in Mclean, so JG is always busy. Food was excellent, as was service. Will return.

It took 20 minutes to get our table after our reserved time. We were then taken back to our table and it was not completely set up so we waited for them to finish. The waiter took a while before approaching us and barely ever came back to check on us until we had to wave him down.

Consistently excellent customer-centered service. Great care in food preparation. Good wine list. Top sirloin usually a bit dry unless you order it rare. The grilled vegetables platter is generous and tasty. Best brunch inthe area (iysters, shrimp, prime rib, etc).

We have really tried to like this place as its near our home and very convenient. Our waiter was MIA and clearly put the food order (appetizers, salads and main course) in at the same time. We were receiving the course while we were still eating the previous one and they actually took my husband's salad away while he was still eating. Had to order a bottle of wine from a different waitress. For $300 for a party of four, we will take our business elsewhere. Done with JGilbert.

I'm mixed to positive on J. Gilbert's. I think it is a much better lunch or happy hour option than dinner. We will often book JG when we are hankering for red meat, but are inevitably disappointed because for whatever reason, it just doesn't taste at the same level as a Mortons or Ruth Chris--even though the price points are pretty darned close. But...it is close to home. This particular week my scallops were cooked to a rubbery pulp...to the point I actually only ate half of my order. They have an outstanding vegetable selection and great values at lunch and happy hour.

A few months back I wrote a review saying how disappointed I was with the quality of the food and service. After my experience on Friday, I completely reverse my negative review. Again, I have faith that Gilberts provides the quality of food that warrants their prices. My wife and I shared the ahi tuna tartare as an appetizer which was an excellent gluten free choice. She had the 8 ounce filet and I had the 16 ounce Kansas City strip. Both were cooked perfectly and were very flavorful and moist. But most significantly, we were pleased with the knowledgeable, experienced service provided by Hugo, our server. He timed delivery of our main courses perfectly and answered all of our questions. This is quite in contrast to some of the negative encounters we had with less experienced servers.

We came back there for our annual anniversary and we were very excited. When we received our meal it was cold. The sides had be re warmed up and the steaks were over cooked. You would think for a steakhouse they would know how to cook. The one good thing was the waiter and he was trying to make our night better by offering us a complimentary dessert.

Excellent as always. We had our 49th anniversary dinner there this week. We tried a new (for us) appetizer which was delicious. My husband's Manhattan met expectations. The restaurant knew that it was our anniversary and seated us in front of a beautiful fire place. We never felt rushed and thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

Two of our party have had good dinners at J Gilbert’s in the past, one has had good lunches, and all 3 of us have enjoyed brunches there. But on New Year’s Day, their special was a 1 pound lobster tail and 2 members of our party ordered it and were SORELY disappointed. The lobster was rubbery, over cooked, and cold, and the side dishes of brussel sprouts and risotto also were not enjoyable. The risotto was undercooked and served cold. Granted, this is really a steakhouse, but when you say your New Years dinner special is lobster, it should be good. One person had the standard salmon, and it was good. We aren’t sure whether we will return for dinner. We were very disappointed.

For New Year's day brunch, we enjoyed an assortment of typical brunch items. The MTO omelette, carved beef, and waffles were good. The services was disappointing. We didn't receive any waffles at our table and were told we had to order them first. We waited for both coffee, and water refills. Upon returning from the buffet room, none of our plates had been cleared from our table. We have been to j. gibert's before and had exceptional service so maybe it was just bad luck.

I've been going to J. Gilbert's for a few years, and this is the first time I was slightly disappointed with the food. My boyfriend and I went for the New Year's brunch. The spread was very generous and high quality. What I loved about this brunch (I am not a brunch fan, but he is), is that the drinks are charged separately. For people who don't drink (us), it is a real annoyance to be charged for endless alcohol when you won't drink a drop. I appreciated that for this brunch ($30 buffet), you paid for the food only, so they could go high quality on it. The waffles were made to order, which I appreciated, but our server, although very nice, did not understand much of what we said. This was very frustrating. I let it go, because I felt rude. We specifically asked for a soft (slightly undercooked by most standards) waffle. We got a cold, crunchy waffle. We asked for the raspberry tea to be hot instead of iced (it was not on the menu this way, but the server volunteered that it came hot or cold). It came iced (still wonderful tea!). That was a letdown, because I was freezing and had been looking forward to the hot tea. Then, at 11:15, they were out of the donuts that come with the waffle. (The buffet opened at 10.) Why did they run out just over an hour into the 3-hr brunch? My boyfriend was very disappointed. He'd been inhaling the donuts. I would have, had they not had cinnamon, but I accept that heaps of pastries just come with cinnamon :(. I thought the buffet had a lot of potential, but it fell short in some ways. He loved his omelet. Mine wasn't great. I thought the berries were amazing - the best I've ever had, and I am Oregonian who eats lots of berries! The salmon was tepid, but okay - it's a buffet. My boyfriend really enjoyed having the meat slices and LOVED the sausage and bacon, and he is very persnickety about food. I don't really eat either of those, but they looked high quality.

New Years brunch buffet was...meh. Too much of the available food seemed processed and cheap, like the pastries and desserts. It wasn’t bad, but I guess we expected something a bit more special. The donut holes were good, but when we asked for more the waiter said they were all gone. At 1100. I have eaten here before, including brunch, and it just seemed off its game.

This was our first experience at J. Gilbert's. Dirty glasses, the walls are covered in grease, but you won't know at night because it's very dark. The server forgot to put in an order for our table so we all waited about 15 minutes to eat after receiving the first entrees. Steaks were good, seafood was okay. Ruined our New Year celebration.

The whole experience was awful, my wife ate there 16 years ago and she told it was a great place. The server was really bad we couldn't understand what she was offering she is Asian and is not about the language is about learning how to present the items you offer by the book, we arrived at 9:10PM we had reservation for 9:30, we waited at the bar, then they called us to take our table and the whole caos started, I ordered the 4oz filet with scallops medium rare the meat was cold and the scallops over cooked the server took the filet only, she said no worries I will exchange all so I stopped and left my plate on the side, 15 minutes later (my wife is done with her food) she comes back with the filet and nothing else she realized she screwed and took my plate plus the filet, another server brings my plate and this time everything looks much better but the meat now is medium, anyways they gentleman offers desserts for free, we waited 25 minutes to get two creme brulees not good at all, so I was already upset I asked for the check and it comes with the desserts included, then I'm very upset I asked to fix the issue, she leaves and we waited 15 minutes (11:25PM) we went looking for her and we couldn't find her by then we are seating in main lobby waiting for our Uber to try to make it to our New Years eve party. Terrible experience, I truly believe that the quality of their cuts is good but that day the whole experience was unbelievably wrong.

If I were to close my eyes and imagine the ideal dining experience, this would be it. My husband and I went to J. Gilbert's for a quiet New Year's Eve dinner. We were seated in a quiet, cozy booth; drank good wine; ate delicious steak entrees, and experienced excellent service. Now, that's my ideal dinner. And it was all at a fair price. Suffice it to say, we'll be back!

Excellent. Husband and I had New Years dinner here. Food was on point except side of scallops was overcooked - this was fixed very quickly with some new scallops. Crab cakes were great. Skip the bread, it will just fill you up and it nothing special. Ambiance was magical. I am pregnant so we did not drink, but we will return next year for drinks, they looked great! Our server was friendly but hard to find and slow to clear plates- we would have been out of there sooner with quicker service. Kitchen had food out fast to try to keep reservations on time. When we left they were 30+ minutes behind. Recommend Uber to the place, limited parking. Overall excellent for a special occasion.
