Really disappointed in lunch at this Mclean institution. Server was rude and frankly not interested in serving us more than the bear minimum. (Most words were no, we don't offer that.) Never offered us bread but instead said that we had to request it at lunch. Our food took forever to come out and frankly was as good if it had been packed up to go. Luke warm, bear bones presentation. Portions were small especially for sides on the plate. J Gilberts used to be place where you would take friends and family for a nice meal. I know COVID has been tough on many restaurants but JGilberts is backed by a large corporate presence. Was disapointed because this was to be a special holiday celebration for our family after more than a year of not being able to eat out together. Nothing great to write home about.

Our excellent meals were further enhanced by the first-class service we received from Evan (our waiter) and the rest of the service staff. I've been a patron of J Gilbert's for more than 15 years and they never disappoint!

The special was wonderful and well priced. For a relatively empty restaurant it took a while to seat us.
Look forward to future specials!

Service wasn’t as good as it normally is, due to the wait staff being tired from working Mother’s Day.

When we were finally seated (after eating about 15 minutes.. and yes we had a reservation), the floor and seats were dirty. My food came out cold. It just wasn’t their best. If I hadn’t been there before, with no holiday, I probably wouldn’t come back.

Several bad things. The server took forever to bring drinks, claimed there was an issue in the kitchen. On Mother's Day, the chef cooked my wife's steak incorrectly twice, first over done, then second bloody red. Food so bad, once she got home, she ate a hot dog. The server had to be reminded twice to bring bbq sauce. And to end it all, I had a coupon and the server forgot to add it into the bill. Had to ask him twice. Will not be going back.

J. Gilbert’s is always a treat. I attended for a Mother’s Day dinner. They were very accommodating to my party of 4 with COVID protocols in full effect. All of the staff were masked at all times and service was on point as usual. They offered a special Mother’s Day menu which was great. The food was very good. Everyone in my party was really happy with their meal and the service. I can’t wait to go back.

We had a great time on Mother's Day. I was surprised that there was a children's menu to satisfy our picky seven year old and three year old.
I will dine at J. Gilbert's again.

I have rated J. Gilbert's a '5' in the past. Mother's Day was disappointing. (1) I was told Sunday Brunch was been offered; (2) expecting breakfast and ordering dinner took time; (3) waitress was noticeable annoyed; she didn't even offer dessert; food was ok. I will never return for a special occasion, but I will not give up a casual evening for J Gilbert's otherwise usual and wonderful food and service.

We have been coming to J. Gilberts since 1987 (when it was "Charley's Place") and find the atmosphere and the food just incredible. We are thrilled that they have survived the pandemic and look forward to having them around for many years to come - providing terrific food and a great place to meet for the McLean community.

I took my mom here for Mother’s Day this past weekend and it was really nice! They actually had a Mother’s Day menu available which consisted of a 3 course meal. The service was amazing and the food was delicious! My mother also enjoyed it as well. We had a late reservation and I was very impressed at how we were not rushed out thought we got there past our reservation time. Our server really took his time with us. I will definitely be back.

Booked table for 7, finally was seated around 8. Staying while waiting plus 4 more groups. The service wasn't good, my son got the paper menu with food spots. Disgusting. The plates were taken out with not finished food. We came to enjoy the evening for pricey restaurant, not to swallow and run away as at fastfood place.

This visit, along with our previous visit to Gilbert's a couple weeks earlier were the first since the Pandemic. They were also the very first, in many years of visits where the meat was undercooked, in 3 out of the 4 dinners. We received Medium instead of well done and medium rare/rare instead of medium. Prior to these two dinners, it was always right on the money. Is there new staff in the kitchen because of Covid?

I am a regular customer at J. Gilbert’s- it has been my go-to place for a couple of decades. Lately I have been dining outside for Sunday brunch and am sorry to say I have found the food to be disappointing and well below the restaurant’s usual quality. Once I ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was some type of dry chicken fingers and the waffles were just lousy. A few weeks ago I ordered smashed potatoes with peppers and onions. Sadly I got a plate of plain mashed potatoes. This past Sunday the kitchen totally forgot to provide us with the sour dough toast that came with our omelets. These are just a few of the kitchen failures in recent weeks. It makes me sad to say this, but management has to have someone overseeing the kitchen so the food is properly prepared and delivered to the diners in a timely manner.

Great cocktails and ambiance. Ordered the ribeye special and it was very tough and chewy. Our server was distracted and our second round of drinks didn’t arrive until we were just about finished with our meal and only after reminding our server twice.

J Gilbert’s has gone way down hill. Recently raised prices and decreased the portions. I ordered a $42 tuna steak. It was just heated up and served. No toppings. Oyster Rockefeller was the worst I ever had.

ordered lamb rack, (it has only four ribs but prepared nice. mushroom/rice side was excellent. also ordered the lobster cob salad, perhaps light on both the lobster and traditional bacon. cocktails were quite nice. service, seemed chaotic, server was switched out, difficult to find server, especially at end of meal, had to get up and walk around in search. were they understaffed?
