Solid restaurant, but had a horrible experience for my parents anniversary. Booked a table for the evening and upon arrival, my table was given to someone else because of a mix-up. They gave us another table within the minute they realized the mistake, which was ok. We received our meals and as I was about to begin to eat the staff return and take our meals from our table. Literally fork and food in hand. Claiming it was a mix up for another table when the meals were practically identical. Staff came back and apologized, but there wasn't any quality customer service that was displayed to rectify for the mix-up. I will not be returning.
A family go to for good food. First time we had a child with us and my granddaughter was happy but would b nice to add a few more vegetables n fresh fruit as choices
The waiter was gracious, charming, knowledgeable and on top of our requests for unusual dietary needs! He immediately jumped to make sure we had what we requested! He quickly observed that the order had not been prepared as ordered and took it and got what had been asked to be served! When asked for suggestions he unhesitatingly made several that were as good as he suggested they would be!
As always, excellent service and food. Wood smoked steak was as advertised as was the fish. No reason to search for anything better at these prices. I'm going back soon!
Waiters were great. Very patient and appropriately attentive.
Chicken tortilla soup is exceptional, fish tacos are delicious and the maple glaze roasted salmon is the juiciest, most tender salmon ever!
met friends from out of town for dinner at J. Gilberts. I requested a booth because it would be quieter, so the four of us could talk. When I arrived first, I asked the host if a booth was available, and he said yes but then recommended a "half booth" in a quieter area in the restaurant. Fine, but then right after he seated us he led a party of 8 to the table next to us! So the women sat in the booth part, but our husbands sat in chairs next to the table of 8. Not what I'd requested at all. Then the server brought the wrong checks for us to sign off on - checks for another table and another party. Good thing we caught that mistake, but then had trouble tracking him down and getting him to correct the checks.
Fantastic restaurant to hold a quiet business meeting/conversation. The food was excellent, as was the service and overall environment.
I made a reservation the day before, they had no problem fitting us in. The booth was great. The service was slow. We were constantly waiting, either a child's menu, dessert menu, drink refills. We also were served the wrong steak for the person celebrating the special occasion, luckily he realized and didn't touch anything and they ran back and gave the correct meal. All-in-all, the service was slow, food was amazing!!
We are regulars at J Gilbert, both for dinner and Sunday brunch. Their brunch is the best I’ve ever had, with all you can eat oysters and shrimp. The dinner menu is also excellent, as is the service.
We frequent J. Gilbert’s quite a bit as it’s one of a handful of legit neighborhood restaurants. It consistently has mouthwatering steaks with incredible flavor. Everything else is pretty good for supporting characters. When they get the texture and flavors just right, the lobster mac and cheese is amazing. I prefer it without the crumbs on top - which in my opinion, do not contribute to its flavor or experience. The mushroom risotto is also very creamy and delicious. I am so happy they went back to the sourdough bread instead of those spicy cheddar biscuits whose flavor competed with your dishes. The vegetable sides’ portions always seem a bit small to me but considering I’m usually too full to clear my plate at any visit, I suppose it’s fine - it’s just not a good value.
On this latest visit we had long black hair in our bread plate and on a cocktail glass which was alarming to say the least. Our waitress was equally horrified, gracious and replaced the items and comped is dessert. It’s not something we’ve experienced before so we hope it will be address and not happen again.
Cocktails are becoming such a thing at DC restaurants it would be nice if J. Gilbert’s followed suit and developed a more interesting and diverse cocktail menu - including some mocktail options. I also think they’re long overdue to refresh the interior - it’s very dated. It’s so dark and almost gloomy inside with all the dark wood, black accents and no natural light. They could even add a patio on the side for outdoor seating.
They've upped their game. More dry aged selection and no more overwhelming mesquite. J Giberts now goes toe to toe with the big name steakhouses. Solid salads and apps and excellent sides (2 included with the steak) round out the menu. The cocktails were and are still good. The wine list is staekhouse standard, but works well with the beef and is reasonably priced. This place went from a convenient, just okay option to high on the list for a great steak. Bravo!
Quick service and high quality food. We requested and were placed at a table instead of a booth. J. Gilbert was easily able to change our reservation for 30 minutes later on the day of the lunch when we had a scheduling change.
First time our family dining at this restaurant the server was great, foods was good overall we all really enjoy this place.
Definitely will be back again soon.
This place is amazing. By far the best ribs and burger I have ever had. Highly recommend for special occasions, first date, or just fun place to go. Staff was awesome too.
Sunday brunch is always a treat! Hot entrees, hot and cold side dishes, made to order omelettes, beef carving station, oysters on the half shell, shrimp, smoked fish, cheese and fruit, yogurt and fresh berries...and then there is dessert so save room!
It was my birthday and, Hugo, our server was exceptional! In fact, based on past experience we specifically requested him
Nice environment and some cozy boths
Service was very good and attentive. Food was good. Onion rings were outstanding, but sliders were mediocre. They were dry, very little sautéed onions, and minimal cheese. Lobster Cobb was very good, but seemed a bit light on lobster meat.
Great neighborhood gem. The “clubhouse” of McLean.
Ordered the Wague burger and came with almost no fixin's.
Very disappointing for a $20 hamburger.
Of 3 orders, none were served as ordered. Server was over extended at 2pm on a weekday - no management presence & no one asked if everything was ok.
Outstanding as always! We were celebrating my husband's 60th birthday and everything was wonderful. We had an amazing server, Keahan M......he was exceptional in his service and attentiveness. AND -- a lot of fun!
Food was great and service was outstanding. Deelon, our server, was cordial, helpful and attentive. Made my wife's birthday dinner memorable.
Went for brunch on a Sunday. The food was great. The guy manning the omelet station made a great omelet. They also have some of the lightest Belgian waffles I've ever had at a restaurant .
Good place to have steak, baked potato, and wedge salad. Reliable.
Unusually noisy tonight (Friday). We eat here quite frequently, tonight there were several boisterous groups . Generally this doesn’t happen.
Always love J Gilberts. Ive been eating there for 6 years now. Top notch service and food. I had my graduation party here in 2014. One of my top experiences of my life.
We were tucked in a corner, which was great. Our server was pleasant & didn’t rush us, important to us as we actually take quite a bit of time “catching up.” She did eventually ask us to cash out, as her shift was ending, but this was done in a very professional manner. Lovely experience overall.
Very enjoyable lunch
J. Gilberts is a reliable steakhouse with good options for salad and vegetables instead of carbs. Service is good without being intrusive and They take special requests in stride. They do have some creative items on the menu besides steak. They potato soup is great as well as the wedge salad. I also like the steaks and friends really like the crab cakes and lobster mac and cheese. They have a couple of private rooms in the back that are good for groups. Booths are large and very comfortable for four people.
Note that the chef usually tends toward less cooked steak but they are happy to cook it more if you want.
We had an excellent dinner!
As usual the service was outstanding. That was the bright spot of the meal. We got off to a meh start when, despite having a reservation, the hostess tried to seat us at a tiny booth for 2 just off the lobby (probably worst seat in the house). Then my first choice of entree (sea scallops) was sold out and then my husband's first choice of side (sauteed spinach) was out too. Seriously? Bad planning on the kitchen manager's part. My side was supposed to be green beans with pecans and shallots, but came out as just plain green beans (similar to what my tween makes at home). Overall disappointed.
This was our first time visiting. We went there for brunch. The choices were plentiful.
Didn’t realize that J Gilberts only serves brunch on Sundays. Had my heart set on a steak. We left after sitting down and realizing that eggs were what to order. We usually go to J Gilberts for special occasions. Great food, calm, distinguished atmosphere. Usually no screaming kids. A GREAT steak house.
Always good food here! We had an out of town guest who was craving steak. SO glad wew were able to get into J. Gilberts.
Overall very nice. The food was excellent. There was a slight hiccup in the service in that our server asked us if we wanted bread. We said yes, but the bread didn't come, so we asked the next person we saw, who said he'd bring it right out. Still no bread. Finally, someone who I think was one of the managers came by, and we asked him, after which the bread was brought out to us. Very good sour dough bread, by the way.
Excellent food quality without the fancy places prices. Very popular place for good reasons. Bar is awesome place for date night.
We have been going here for years and always satisfied. A good place to stop after other visits to doctors and $ advisors and lawyers offices around Tysons.
The potato soup is unfortunately only offered at lunch but it is great. Have very good steaks and right-sized for whatever the appetite. She loves the coconut cake.
Gilbert's got over their bad fascination with the spiced bread and brought back the good ol' sourdough. they need to listen to their customers on these things as was obvious from the start.
I made a last minute reservation, and we were promptly seated up arriving. I would definitely go back.
