It was Valentine’s Day so of course I was going to shell out for some really good food at a high rated restaurant. From the very first bite of the appetizer I was hooked. The flavors were so rich and full I knew my girlfriend and I were going to have a great food experience. They had Valentines specials so I went with the Surf and Turf. Perfect portions of steak and seafood. The drinks paired the food really well also. If I were to just have one small drawback, the food was fairly warm, nearing cold, but it was still delicious.

Driven by for years finally pulled the trigger on Valentine's 2019.. The GF and I have done Ruth Chris Morton's etc and I wanted to do something new .. I didn't tell the gf I just drove ya there . Made a reservation for 7:30 and got there around 7:00.. checked in and was told it would be closer to the reservation which was fine .. grab a couple chairs and I headed to the bar to get a couple drinks . ( they have Elijah Craig).. around 7:30 we are seated and immediately a waiter comes to take our app or and drinks .. we had two waiters/waitresses on this night and they worked so well together ..

Started with the shrimp Durango' .... so good

I got the 1lb lobster tail which they only have twice a year .. Valentines and New Years . My gf got the other steak which was also a Valentine's special .. see photos..

Ambiance was great . Service was great ., can't wait to go back . I also want to try their brunch ..

Excellent food and perfect sizes. I have always been bored by the amount of food served at restaurants, but at J. Gilbert's, I was very pleasantly surprised.

Nice restaurant and good experience. Unfortunately, the steak isn't reaching the level of expectation for the price that they are charging. Side dishes were great but I came here for steak and it didn't compare to any steakhouse in NYC.

The Clydes of McLean.
Nothing special here. Solid steak house. Good customer service. Just another overpriced classic big box like restaurant. Again, solid chioce, but could definitely use a refresh.

One of the best meals I ever had. I am pretty good at cooking steaks but I could not have done a ribeye that tasted as great!

Excellent steaks. The salmon was amazing. Great for all types of foods. Unfortunately our waitress forgot about us. We waited 30 minutes after eating before we got our bill. Very disappointed but this isn't how it usually is.

J. Gilberts is second to none in quality of food and service. It is our "go to" place in McLean for top-shelf dining. The only reason for 3 stars in "ambiance" is that the furniture could use some repair/upgrading. But, that is only a suggestion. You cannot go wrong at J. Gilbert's in terms of food and the staff.

Great food and service! It was our first time dining with J. Gilbert, so we didn’t know what to expect. My wife and I wanted to try out somewhere new on our weekly Fri-date and we are glad that we chose this place. We ordered their 38 oz Tomahawk Steak to share with Brussels sprouts and mushrooms cooked with truffle oil and their famous potato chips for appetizer. We had cocktails and a glass of wine each. Everything was great, but if I were to nip pick, I would say the mushrooms cooked with truffle oil is not worth paying extra $3.5. Hardly taste the truffles at all.

I suggested the restaurant because of the wonderful short ribs I’ve had so many times during the past 6 months. Our server, Jane, told me she’s been there for 12 years (I think) and short ribs have never been on the menu...(implying that I was lying). I settled for Salmon but was disappointed. A simple “I’m sorry we don’t have them tonight” would have been better.
