The appetizer we had (pretzel onion rings) were just okay. Didn’t really get the pretzel taste I was looking for. My entree the seafood mixed grill was excellent. The seafood was perfectly grilled and seasoned. Mashed potatoes and asparagus were tasty as well. Creme brûlée for dessert was one of the best creme brûlée’s I had in quite some time. Waiter was attentive which I appreciated. Can’t wait to go back and enjoy that great food again.
I highly recommend J Gilberts/ I had good food, good companionship, and a good atmosphere--all at a great location.
We had reservations but still had to wait. For the cost, we expected a better ambiance.
Very pleasant ambiance and service and good food at a decent price.
Would recommend!
My husband and I have dined at J. Gilbert’s on multiple occasions. We have been disappointed with our last two experiences.
Always great service with good food. 3rd time here and they haven't disappointed me yet
One of our favorite restaurants. Great food, service, location and plenty of parking.
It was a wonderful 1st experience, the crab cakes though I wasn’t impressed, but I paid for them anyway.
Great service in the bar area and at our table. As always, the food is excellent.
Perfect as usual. Great food, service and ambiance.
Food was excellent as always. Sat in the very back, was not appealing small room with 3 tables. Service wasn't bad, but not as good as it has been.
I will come back. I now times are strange, but am sad to say that this time was not a "will be back" type of experience.
Not the norm.
Awesome steaks, appetizers and service! We are frequent diners here and it never misses. They absolutely have the best steak around! Our waitress was excellent and the hostess team also very good with Covid sensitive seating etc.
GREAT STEAK! Love the KC STRIP
Best steakhouse around!
Great lunch of crab melt sandwich. Also love their mushroom risotto as a side. The filet is always tender.
My husband and I wanted to enjoy a beautiful and quiet dinner experience to celebrate his birthday; selecting J Gilbert's was the right choice. I had the grilled seafood platter and my husband had the filet with a side of scallops as the main courses and they were cooked to perfection. We also appreciated our server who was very accommodating and friendly.
Exceptional service and terrific attitudes throughout the restaurant staff. Food was excellent. Great lunch experience.
The Tortia chicken soup was not as flavorable as I remembered.
The waitress did not check water for refill.
I need to find her to order an additional dish.
Everything was as expected but our waiter was new so he just needs to perk up his service and be more attentive to his tables. We continually had to ask for water, something he should have noticed as he passed our table innumerable times.
Our server Aziz is consistently attentive, friendly, and professional. It's a pleasure to be seated in his section. Thank you
I come here often for birthdays - both my own and several friends. The birthday offer says buy 1 entrée, get $25 off the second entrée. This time I went with three friends. All ordered entrées. I ordered an appetizer for my meal. We had another appetizer for the table. In years past, depending on the staff, they accommodate this - realizing that the point of the coupon has been realized (3 entrées were purchased, so J. Gilbert's made more than the intended minimal profit). Other times, there is all manner of scurrying back and forth because I didn't actually order an entrée. Hairs are split, multiple tabs are run, time is wasted. Also in times past, generally staff will comp a dessert to the birthday person. I'm not sure if it was because of Covid or new staff, but this time was not nearly as enjoyable as generally. The service was fair but not that great, despite the restaurant not being terribly busy (it was a Tuesday evening). We still enjoyed it, and to be fair, technically I did not technically meet the coupons requirements.
Been here many times over more than a decade. Not great, but good. Most menu items are way overpriced for the food quality and the ambiance of this venue. For the price consider the truly excellent places nearby like 2941 or Clarity.
Brunch time was okay. Not the usual J. Gilbert’s experience. Had my wife and I not been vaccinated now, I would not have been comfortable sitting in the back with two large parties. Also, server was not very attentive. Left disappointed.
As always, J. Gilbert's and its "crew" were fabulous. It was a birthday celebration which we all enjoyed immensely. Our waitress was just the perfect touch to our fun as she understood "where we were coming from". We enjoyed our meals so much that we plan to celebrate there again, very soon.
Overall good place. Nothing really stood out.
Fantastic. Great food, great service, awesome ambiance. Exactly what we were looking for
We were a party of 7. Service was good. The food and seasoning was below what I'd like for the price point. Also thought that the food portions were on the small side.
Excellent high quality food and great service
Love the crabmeat melt sandwich at lunchtime as well as mushroom rissoto. Also the crab bisque soup is delicious.
It is always a pleasure to dine at Gilbert’s. Our server Joan has been there a long time and she was a breath of fresh air in all these crazy Covid times. Can’t wait until the full bar is open! Loved the warm fireplace on a snowy evening. Thanks!
Wonderful server and delicious food
Great quality food, unobtrusive and prompt service, friendly hostesses, polite customers. Perfect!
Between the four of us, we had quite the variety of offerings from the menu. Appetizers: Oysters Rockefeller, Fried Calamari, and Maryland Crab Bisque. I didn't have the Bisque, since, as a Marylander, I am always suspicious of "Maryland Crab" served anywhere, especially in February. Regardless, the companion who did, reported it to taste quite good. Entrées (Main Course): Wood-Grilled Ribs, Blackened Chicken Penne, 18 Oz. Bone-In Ribeye "Cowboy Cut", and the Filet Combo of 6 Oz Filet and Seared Georges Bank Sea Scallops - whew! Finally, as I was the only one up for dessert, I had the Velvet Chocolate Cake.
From the list above, it would be extremely difficult to rank them in any kind of taste order. So, I'll give them all 5 out of 5s. However, the Chocolate Cake is so good, I am going to have to add an additional .5 (I am a huge chocolate lover so maybe I am a bit biased).
Our Server was friendly and extremely accommodating. Naturally, we over ordered and had plenty left to take home. No problem there.
The ambience was given only 3 stars, primarily because it was just too dark. A bit more light would provide the same dining effect, yet also allow us to read the menu and see each other better.
If you've never dined here, you're missing out on great food, service and ambience. Love to go on Mondays when wine by the bottle is half off, and the choices are fantastic. Best chicken tortilla soup anywhere.
We love J.Gilberts so we were pretty comfortable with the place. This time our waitress didn't seem like she had enough time in the day. Very polite and professional just super busy.
My wife and I visited J. Gilbert's for a Valentine's Day meal. This was our first time eating there. I thought the food was OK. I say ok primarily because the steak was not as good as I expected. The calamari and oyster Rockefeller appetizers were terrific. The wife enjoyed her ribs and will probably make me give Gilbert's another try.
Been coming here for occasional events, this time the service was not up to par,and the food wasn't seemingly fresh,as it made both of our stomachs very upset,we order different plates so its got to in cooking.Service did keep up and forgot item requested.will I repeat, probably give it another chance.
Excellent Food. Excellent Service.
The restaurant was beautiful. We were blessed to sit by the fireplace. I would definitely go there again. I can say I wish my portions were larger and that they offered vegan butter. I have dairy allergy so my options were limited.
The food and drinks were delicious, and the service was friendly and fast. The prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. I would definitely recommend J. Gilbert's to a friend if they were looking for a nice steak.
