Food and service was great
One thing after another. I received red wine instead of white. Easily fixed but still. We thought the tonic water tasted off. The dishes we received were not as described on the menu The potato and asparagus hash was mashed potatoes and a side of asparagus. The creme brûlée with raspberries was creme brûlée with blackberries. Not a big deal (and everything was delicious) but why not either put an accurate description on the menu or just tell you when you order the dish that there are substitutions? The coffee with cream was coffee with milk. When the coffee was replaced, the coffee was tepid. We had to send the filet back twice before it reached the medium temperature at which it was ordered. There are only so many times one can send something back before the evening is completely ruined.
I’m hoping this was an off night for the restaurant. We’ve eaten here dozens and dozens of times (it is just down the road for us) and never had an experience like this. The food was very good but it was a frustrating experience. If I had been a first time customer, I would not be going back. I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and try again.
I mostly go here for birthdays, because several of my friends and I are on the email list and enjoy celebrating with the birthday coupons they give. I always have a great time here! I look forward to the end of Covid when the veggie platter (hopefully!) will return. In the interim, the Oysters Rockefeller (a fairly new menu item) and Shrimp Durango never disappoint. The blue cheese chips are wonderful too. Other favorites are the Wagyu burger, blackened chicken penne, and roasted potatoes (side). I enjoy that J. Gilbert's always has good service and that they are very accommodating for birthdays. OH! Almost forgot dessert! I DIE for the 7-layer coconut cake, although it looks like they swapped out the mango syrup for some passion fruit (or maybe I'm remembering wrong?) Also, their creme brûlée is FANTASTIC. Absolutely delicious.
Steaks are delicious and cooked to perfection.
I HAD SEAFOOS MIXED GRILL. THE Salmon and the ahrimps were overcooked therefore dried out.
J. Gilbert is a solid neighborhood gem, with a very good ambience, while also providing a solid value.
Perfect cozy spot to meet up w friends and catch up. Noise level was just right, able to speak and be heard amongst our group. Staff was friendly & professional. The table we dined at could have been thoroughly wiped more, crumbs and sticky bits still remained. Small turn off but no big deal. Meals were hearty & sumptuous. Wonderful experience all around.
My 3rd visit asking for a Smoked Old Fashioned, which is on the Drink Menu. This time they did not hickory chips. Other than that, the food is always excellent. I ordered the Bone-In Ribeye “Cowboy Cut” which rivals any ribeye I have had.
Very nice circumstance for Business Lunch!!
Delicious Steaks and quit enough to talk.
Good food, good service! Nicer dinning but still kid friendly.
The steaks were cooked just right. Our server provided excellent customer service.
I always have great expectations when I'm heading to J.Gilbert for a steak dinner and they've always been fulfilled so far.
Not a cheap place by any means, but price is what you pay, value is what you get, right? Three things stand out in my experience:
The meat, juicy, tasty and cooked exactly as requested,
The cocktails: I wish I could replicate their flavor and complex balance in what I make at home but, err, not so far.
The service: attentive, friendly, responsive and professional. Ask for Joan M, she was the one waiting our table both times we went and we enjoyed her performance immensely.
We'll be back!
Took my husband for Father’s Day brunch and the overall experience was wonderful. The menu choices were plentiful, prices were reasonable. Portions generous, and the taste superior. Service was exemplary!
Absolutely fantastic. The food was spectacular.
Me and my boyfriend fist time at J. Gilbert and it was very nice
Excellent food from the steak to the sides to the fresh bread. Husband had the Tom A Hawk steak and enjoyed every inch. I had the filet, risotto and cream of corn, all excellent. If you want the best steak and a delicious meal you can't go wrong with J Gilberts. Server was excellent which made whole experience so delightful.
The Father’s Day prix fixe menu was outstanding! Food was delicious as always (the Kansas City Strip was phenomenal) and the drinks were great. Reservations recommended.
Our waitress, Joan, was wonderful. She did a great job. Wish you still had outdoor dining though I realize your parking space is limited.
Silverware & side plate not clean.
Requested quiet table not achieved.
J. Gilbert's is a good restaurant for lunch, but not for dinner. Dinner menu has inflated prices and does not deliver value. I will never return for dinner. One of the items I wanted was not available -- even though it shows on the website as being available; I was told by the waiter that it would be available in two weeks. Well, that's two weeks too late. Feeling ripped off by what I received for what I paid.
I reserved a table for ten diners for a post-pandemic reunion of colleagues. I requested a private dining area for the event; I was assured that we would have a private/semi-private room. I was disappointed that we were place in the main dining area with many occupied tables around ours.
Service was excellent, on the bright side!
This was a great dining experience. The food was excellent, and warm when brought to the table. The service was great and our server was helpful, attentive and friendly. The restaurant was full, but we felt safe - everything was clean and the food was fresh.
It seems some staff are overwhelmed or understaffed. Bar area is notable. It looks to me that sales are lost due to staff attention as well as being out of stock, not having to time to replace empty kegs.
Ordered National Lobster Day special, it is a chopped whole lobster battered and fried. it looks like a lot on the plate, but they also batter and fry large no-meat containing parts of the shell and hardtail carapace. The actual meat portions is delicious.
the accompanying crab bisque is stingy in volume but tasty.
National Lobster Day promotion. Lobster Thermador was rather average, lots of butter, some melted cheese and far too little lobster. I regretted ordering.
We enjoyed our food - when we finally got it. Four of us had to wait an hour from the time we arrived until the food was served. The fifth person had to wait an additional 20 minutes for a meal. I don't know if there are not enough people working in the kitchen or what was the reason for the very slow service, but by the time I got my meal, the others were practically finished. This was disappointing, because I have been there in the past, and the service and wait times were much less. Maybe they are having problems getting people to come back to work, but in that case, they should go back to limiting the numbers they can accommodate to be able to give good service and good food in a reasonable amount of time.
Wonderful experience. Celebrating a birthday and received a free dessert.
Wonderful drinks, appetizers and entrees. Highly recommend the blue cheese potato chips and shrimp cocktail.
Environment was quiet and enjoyable…. Only downside-too dark!
We have eaten at many restaurants and this experience was outstanding in all categories. We can hardly wait to dine here again!
Our waiter was Fantastic
Drinks were a little slow, and it took three requests to get a glass of ginger ale.
It was only the second day to be opened fully, and it showed a little bit.
Im hoping for more improvement as time goes on .
J Gilbert's food is its biggest draw. The quality is off the charts. The ambience and service add to the experience so that it remains one of my top choices in dining. There is one negative. The seats, especially the booths needs upgrade.
surf and turf dinner. 4oz filet was very good. but the shrimp were disappointing. (perhaps frozen too long, over cooked, or just not great quality to start). Scallops were nice.
Thanks again for the great food and relaxing environment.
The tortilla soup is a new favorite. The presentation makes it worth it.
Our server was really terrific! It was as if she knew the answers to our questions before we even asked them! Three of us were there to catch up after over a year of not seeing each other and it was a wonderful time… We stayed very long and appreciate the patience of the restaurant staff. I have been to this restaurant several times and it is always one of my favorite spots!
We usually eat at Gilbert's once a month due to our busy schedules and its location to us.
We decided to arrive and have late brunch and it was perfectly timed as our server, Charlotte, was congenial and helpful and it made our delicious meal even better. We plan to be at Gilbert's next month and hope to enjoy the same wonderful food, space and service.
Salads never arrived. Steaks were mediocre. Service was good.
Quality food in a lovely setting, food is pricey but worth it for a special occasion.
We had a bday party and everyone enjoyed food and service. Great steak with excellent sides. Will visit again.
4 stars for fine dinning! Food was excellent matched with superb service.
