J. Gilbert’s – Wood Fired Steaks & Seafood - McLean
My boyfriend and I went for a restaurant week date night and it was lovely! The meal was great and the wine pairings perfect. Our server, Joan, was lovely and attentive without being obtrusive.
Restaurant week did not disappoint - the three of us had the crab cakes, the baby back ribs and the sirloin - all three entrees were delicious! James waited on us in the bar area and he is the best! Bar area during happy hour gets packed so plan accordingly - can’t wait to go back.
It was great. Our server was very very good! Thanks.
Our reception was professional and courteous; our food was superb; our waiter was exceptional!
We were able to enjoy Lunch during Restaurant week and explore their menu. J Gilberts reminds us to be favorite spot. Now I know lunch is a treat will make a date more often.
It was a dear friend's birthday and I didn't mention it till then end and Stephanie our waitress was so kind as to add a candle to our dessert. Very Thoughtful.
I went to J. Gilbert's twice this week. I love restaurant week! Great deals and the food and service are exceptional!
Nice mood and excellent food along with kind serve. I enjoyed very much.
Maria was mercifully kind while I struggled with last vestiges of a very nasty cold. She consistently provides quality customer service, before, during, and following our meals. Perhaps best of all are Maria’s interpersonal skills — communication, sense of humor, and knowing when a group is deep in discussion and should not be disturbed. She’s a real professional, and always a pleasure to have as our Server!
Great place to meet friends for brunch, lunch or dinner.
Great food experience. I can always count on J.Childs. One of my favorite places!!
Still my favorite restaurant to attend. While the food was fantastic, the customer service, especially our waitress, was exemplary. Even with the Friday night crowds, the food came in less than 15 minutes and was quite delicious.
Finally, since it was my birthday, the coupon came in quite handy and offered a tremendous savings to me (& the cheesecake was so good).
Great food and location. Convenient for us when we want a date night with no kids. Delicious food, good wine selection and drinks.
We had a reservation for a birthday celebration. The restaurant was very accommodating as we changed the number in the party multiple times. We arrived early to check our happy hour at the bar. The service at the bar was awful. The bartender rarely checked on us and was always at the other end of the bar which made it impossible for 2 in our party to order any of the happy hour special foods. We asked questions and the bartender did not answer. Ultimately, the party who arrived early was able to try some oysters and lobster claws. The lobster claws were the worst lobster we’d ever had and the oysters were decent. We got to our table and ordered a bottle of wine which the server gave an awkward talk on how we weren’t allowed to taste it - fine. It was just very awkward. 3/4 ordered from the prix fixe menu and one ordered a soup and entree. All of the food was delicious. Our biggest complaint was the service. We were done with our dinner for 20 minutes before our server asked us about dessert and then done with our desert for 15 minutes before checking on us again so we could get the check. We will definitely return to try again.
Good food, nice wine, great service and a fun evening.
Michelle is a great server.
Very nice birthday and anniversary celebration. Kiana was a terrific server..
Food always delicious
First time dining at J. Gilbert's - food was excellent, service was fabulous (ask for James) - only issue was restaurant and bar was way overcrowded. We are anxious to return in the near future.
I was there 5.30 restaurant was busy but not pack. service was OK nothing special but the food was awful Lobster was so salty baked potato was warm french fry is over fry feel like a eating potato chips.
Salmon had no taste feel like eating frozen salmon.
Great food and service
This restaurant provides the best value for the dollar in all of Mclean including the top restaurants in Tyson’s area
I have no complaints from entering to exiting, the entire affair was more than anyone could expect. Gilberts is
one of the best managed restaurants in the entire area.
Exceptional quality Steaks and fish at JGilberts are always first rate dining experiences. JGilberts also has a?stylish ambiance that makes for a very enjoyable evening.
This is our local restaurant and we eat here frequently. The food is always excellent and the servers are wonderful.
Another good meal from JGilberts. One nit, although the plates were hot it was obvious the sides were plated ahead of the protein entrée. While the latter was served hot, the sides, Brussel sprouts and risotto were barely warm on arrival and cold soon after. The meal was well prepared, but with food runners I wouldn't expect the temperature variation.
An incredible restaurant, for years I have driven past it viewing its full parking lot and I finally made reservations and took my family for an incredible meal and experience. Highly recommend it!
The food is wonderful and the waiters are always helpful and courteous.
Service very slow and never improved
This was the first time we had done the brunch. It was excellent and we will do it again!
The food was good. Except Prime rib too rare, and the desserts were very common. The danish were "very ordinary" I find those at the some hotels where they offer free breakfast to there guests. Chocolate chip cookies, please I can get those anywhere. I liked the rest of the buffet(and well worth the money) but your desert table lacked imagination.
Both the food and service was excellent. It was more crowded then usual; however, that is understandable since it was New Years Eve.
We were initially told that they were running 10 minutes behind in their reservations. Their lobby was packed with other frustrated people waiting for their tables. We watched as parties of 8, 9 and even 14 were taken to tables, while smaller groups of 2 and 4 people stood for 30 to 45 minutes. Tip to management: On busy holidays, don't take parties larger than 6. You can't accommodate them without penalizing smaller tables!! Extremely poor management! We were told "just a few more minutes" several times upon asking how much longer. After waiting an inexcusable 40 minutes for our table, we were finally seated with no apology for the wait nor did anyone care. It was NYE, so we expected a crowd but not to be ignored. The managers walked around the restaurant the entire evening making no eye contact or stopping at tables to ask the diners how they were doing. I imagine they already knew the response. We often eat at J. Gilbert's for many special occasions, and have made dining there on NYE an annual tradition but we were extremely disappointed. Luckily, the food was delicious and cooked to order.
New Year’s Eve dinner. Had a 8:30 pm reservation and was seated at 8:55. Had Crab Bisque soup that was too salty and less than a tablespoon of Crab. Rest of dinner was Okay.
J. Gilbert's doesn't disappoint. The charcuterie slate was very nice. The bone in pork chop was juicy and cooked to perfection. My wife's steak was flavorful and properly cooked. We had four different sides which were all excellent. We finished with three flavors of ice cream, which were delicious. The drinks were great with a generous pour. Our server didn't hurry us and was very accommodating to my wife's requests for pictures. This was our second New Year's Eve dinner at J. Gilbert's. We won't wait another year to return.
New Year’s Eve reservation we waited 35 minutes to be seated. I had asked for a particular section but that was ignored. The server was slow to get to us and not as attentive as we’ve experienced before. Granted it was a busy night. Still the steak was great, our friends were happy and we had a good time.
It was New Year’s so I expected it to be rather noisy but you still feel like you’re sitting in an intimate environment I had the salmon which was delectable -the service was fast and polite and the manager even came over and spoke to us A great evening!
Shouldn’t have to wait, standing, for 35 minutes for a 6pm reservation. Server was outstanding, but got tired of the bored “they are cleaning your table” for 25 minutes from hostesses who were overwhelmed. Clear they overbook and don’t seem to care. Food is okay - nothing special (except Pork Chop) - but expensive and menu hasn’t changed in years. Reliable, but tired local “supper club”.
This was a new restaurant for me and I would continue to go there.
The steak was cooked as I asked , shrimp were well repaired and the sides were great. We went on a busy holiday but the serve and the food were just great. cme
I normally love this restaurant. I’ve been a frequent customer for many years and it’s always been a great restaurant with good food and service but tonight was a little bit of a disappointment. The staff was still very friendly as usual but it was an off night all around. It started with a 15+ min delay with our reservation seating, we had to ask for our bread and one of our drinks multiple times, they ran out of the fish special and French fries (who runs out of French fries????) just before we were seated and the waitress was struggling to keep up with her tables; although she was trying hard to make up for it with her very sweet temperament. I’ll toss tonight up to being an off night but hopefully management does better planning next time around during a busy holiday season.
I specifically requested a quiet booth for lunch a week in advance. I was shown to the back, not a booth, and seated next to a loud party of 10. The room was overheated and stuffy.
Brunch on Sunday was great. Traditional American quisine
